Ignoring the flaming elephant in the room, this is just another kick in the nuts for Sony. They are going to get hammered in terms of reputation, and customer loyalty, and every detail revealed just adds to the pressure they are under. This just underlines the importance of having the best cyberprotection avalible. Sure, you can't be certain it'll stop hackers, but thats like saying you can break into any bank in the world with enough resources. Least it seems everyone else is double checking their systems now...
Also ignoring the flaming elephant, while Sony just can't catch a break, they had their break before all this happened; when they neglected effective security. They may have had their servers up to date but they must have had some shit security for all of this to go down like it has. Like Hybridwolf says, you can never underestimate how important your security is.

Agreed. We all know mine's the biggest, so just give it a rest.
Well I could slap you both with mine from where I'm sitting. Just sayin'.
I could strangle you with mine from where I'm sitting.

Look I understand your enthusiasm but what you are doing there is flame-baiting people, there is just no point in that.

OT: So the security experts guessing on Sony's security guessed wrong, what a shocker.

I doubt you've built as many computers as I have, or dedicated as much time and money into video games that I have.
Come back and tell me that once you've
1.Built at least 100 PCs in about 8 1/2 years
2.Spent at least 2200 hours of in game time in an MMORPG or similar game
3.Spent a summer building and selling computers as an out of home job.
4.work as an official wiki editor for an MMORPG

Nope?
I'm the real PC gamer here, youre just a wanna be.
I was waiting for you to show up and announce something like this to everyone.

This dick waving contest just got official people! (I realized you don't have one, it's just a metaphor)

And how did we get to talking about PC specs anyway?

I'm British, and considering you're probably at least 20-something if you've spent your life doing such wonderful things, you're really not showing yourself in the best light.

"To bad you don't understand computers like I do."

I'm betting you're probably not so good with other human beings.
Well actually your right.
I'm 21 and im socially inept.
I spent so much time around computers and video games I'm rather awkward around people.

But then again
I wasn't the one shooting off biased attacks and ignorant statements because someone else name dropped their computers manufacteror.
Just saying.
Was it nessissary for someone to thread jack just because I mented the people who made my computer.
please, it was a ploy to make fun of the dinky consoles versus the glorius pc gamer master race.
:/
Cheer up.
No, but you were the one who missed that Woodsey was obviously joking, and instead responded with lists of accomplishments and took a slight jest towards PC gaming as a grievous insult. You're the one who still doesn't realize that everyone who responds to you is doing it to mock you and get laughs out of your ridiculous over-the-top responses.

There really is no need to be this insecure about anything, much less a computer brand.

OT: Does anybody care if Sony was using the latest security software? I mean, unless that software somehow prevented Sony from making an official statement and telling us that credit card information was a risk for a week.

They're generally cheaper, for better spec.

I'd never get a pre-built desktop...

Oh dear god what the fuck have you guys done.

God have mercy. God have mercy on our souls.

OT: So does this mean that the hackers are just geniuses, or that Sony is still inept? Or is it both?

Funny, I saw this thread started out talking about Sony's server security was up to date, and now its more an internet cockfight over Alienware PCs and homebuilt or something...

Damn there must be something wrong with me, I think I'm gonna go see a doctor, becuase if PC is so great why do I enjoy PS3 so much more? You've got me worried now

Yeah, you're right. So futile isn't it?
To bad you're not as pro a gamer as I am.
To bad you don't understand computers like I do.
Eh, your loss really.
But hey it seems to be the American thing to do. Make a flawed statement, and then toss insults when you have it backfire on you.

I'm still waiting

1.Built at least 100 PCs in about 8 1/2 years
2.Spent at least 2200 hours of in game time in an MMORPG or similar game
3.Spent a summer building and selling computers as an out of home job.
4.work as an official wiki editor for an MMORPG
If you worked with computers and built some yourself, you would've built your own computer and not an Alienware, which is 50% more expensive.

Problem..?
1.Built at least 100 PCs in about 8 1/2 years
2.Built at least 100 PCs in about 8 1/2 years
3.Built at least 100 PCs in about 8 1/2 years
4.Spent a summer building and selling computers as an out of home job.
5.Spent a summer building and selling computers as an out of home job.
6.I joined the army

Yall ever think that... someone might get tired of it and just buy something built for them. like...i dunno... an alienware?

and 50% more expensive?
Alright, go to newegg and build a list that matches an alienware aurora.

K, speaking as an actual computer technician,
1. They are about 50% more expensive
2. The tech support is ran through Dell, possibly the world's worst tech support.
3. The actual founders of Alienware now started Origin, so yeah they aren't "shutting down" anytime soon.
4. I'm confused, you have built more then 100 computers in 8 years right? 200 a year, aside from repair is what I've done in a year...maybe I'm misunderstanding you.
5. I have nothing against Alienware (other then their shoddy support) but as an experienced person, it is more cost effective for me to build. Besides if I had money to blow, I'd just buy the BFG Phobos...

Lol trolls. /facepalm.
Anyway, I have a PS3 but i haven't even used it since the PSN was down. You can never have too much security, but hackers will most likely always find a way to hack the shit out of anything. It's what they do. So, though Sony probably could have prevented this, I think something like this was bound to happen with one of the console networks at some point or another regardless.

So a thread about Sony not having fucked up as much as we thought they had, has somehow turned into an argument about PC hardware. Strange.

At any rate, I'm glad to hear that Sony isn't as incompetent as previously believed. Hopefully they'll learn from this and the new PSN will be better.

I thought you'd get a kick out of it, since its the Alienware case, well older one anyways...

Ok you all, this thread is now about pancakes! Since the derailment has already gone too far XD.
I kid (unless I am taken serious, I would love this thread to go for pancakes)

OT. I never questioned Sony. And I never used a credit card. I am quite safe.
Sony (sorta) fanboyism FTW!
