Even if they do fix everything consumers are pissed about the sheer assholery of Microsoft has pretty much ruined the company for me. "If you don't have internet get a 360" Fuck you microsoft.

Here is one guy that is jumping ship and it is quite surprising and very admirable given his reasoning and previous devotion.

I absolutely loved my 360 this generation. It was, to my mind, the best of the systems and I spent a LOT of money on them. I've had four different consoles at one time or another. I've bought countless games. I didn't jump on the kinect but I was a passionate fan and user of the system. I feel alienated by their current choices. They seem to be all about the publisher and not about the end user. Honestly, I have a reliable internet connection and I make most of my purchases digitally so the used games thing isn't a huge issue for me.

Still, I can't support a company that makes those choices. Just because they don't screw me over doesn't mean they won't effect others.
Welcome to the Escapist! :)

You pretty much summed up my response. It's a real shame because I'm invested in the Xbox franchises like Halo and Forza but I just do not want to vote for their decisions with my wallet.

MS offering a hearty middle finger and a grinning F.U to all the people of the world without an ideal internet connection is not a company who I will be supporting with my purchases.

I only owned an original Xbox for a week or two before i lost interest, but I played the hell out of my 360, even after a RRoD. Before that it was PS1/PS2, Dreamcast, Nintendo consoles, yadda yadda blah. Lately though? I haven't turned on my 360 in 6 months or more. Last time it was on for an extended period i was copying some XBLA games to take to a friends house to play. And from what i've seen thus far, I'm not the target demographic for the XBone at all. Nothing about it seems appealing to me. Though to be honest, I'm not interested in this upcoming console generation at all, it seems to have nothing to offer me that i'm not already doing on my PC. So, barring some mind blowing exclusive type game that i can't live without, which could happen, I think i'm done with 'current gen' console gaming, Sony, Microsoft, or whoever else.

I'm trying to understand your point of view but I just can't. Could you please try to elaborate this a bit more?

See, I do believe you didn't have a 24 hour long offline period. I live in a 2nd world country on the Balkan and I don't remember the last time I didn't have a connection the whole day. However, the problem doesn't lie only in your connection.

What if MS server goes down? For whatever reason? Like Anonymous taking a liking into it? Or pretty much any group that knows how to easily DDOS a server making it practically impossible to connect?
What if you go somewhere for a few days and that place doesn't have a internet connection you can use?

You have to remember, always online or online every 24 hours isn't only dependent on your connection, but on the server as well.
SimCity and Diablo 3 had such disastrous launches not because of the users internet. No, it was the server that was overloaded. And both EA and Blizzard said before the launch that their sever can take several times more user than the anticipate. What makes you think MS would be different?

And to the sharing. How is it better for you? With the PS4 you just give it to a friend and he plays it. With the Xbone you can give it to a friend once and only once AND he has to be in your friends list for 30 days. So even if you add him to your list the very moment he buys one and connects it, you can't share a game with him for 30 days.
Now, I could be wrong because it could use your 360 friends list so your old friends will count. But what about new friends, on or offline? What about people who think about getting Xbone as their first Xbox (but I doubt such people exist)? You can neither give nor take games from them.

There should be a poll for this.

Also, would be more logical at this stage to ask 'who ISN'T'.

Anyways, I bought the 360 2 years ago for the exclusive Cave shmups available (most of them Japanese exclusives), only to find there are actually a lot of great games this gen. However, I'm not loyal to MS, and seeing as Cave are apparently not making shooters anymore, there is literally no reason to buy a X1 over a PS4.

Technically, I won't be abandoning them.

Seeing as my gaming rig will run Windows 7/Windows XP.

- I've not bought / sold games used in the last decade, so that doesn't bother me.

Truth is, I don't like the Kinect much. I don't have one for my 360, and don't have the empty space to use one properly. It's the discless playing and family sharing that I like, and why I'm definitely having an Xbox One.
Well ok, to each their own I suppose. You seem to be in a particularly good position to utilise the sharing and won't be affected by the other two, so fair enough.

It's Microsoft. They get DDoSed on a daily basis. I've no problem with trusting them to withstand that. The other thing is that it's not "Always On" like Sim City and Diablo were, but a brief connection once a day, just ensuring you're not logged in elsewhere.

It works better for me because of the Family option. The issue with me is sharing games with my SO; if we want to play at the same time, we need 2 copies of the games, and this happens a lot. As a result, I have a whole bunch of duplicate games taking up space.
With the Xbox One, any member of your family can also play your games, on any console, even if you're playing it too. This is actual sharing (The "Give a friend the disk" is more like lending).
I'm also hoping this "Family" thing will be like the "Family" setting on Amazon Prime - with that, you can add friends to your family all you like. If that's possible, then I will be even happier, because it'll make sharing games with friends far, far superior.

I would lean towards Sony because they've had a pretty varied catalog throughout their history, as well as displaying much more self-awareness and regard towards their fans and potential customers. I'm really turned off from all the mixed messages and silliness from Microsoft.

If M$ got rid of the kinect, DRM, 24 check-in, used game bs, and dropped the price by £100 i'd ....still not buy their Satan-box.

They've shown what a truly insidiously disgusting company they are. I hear they are now saying they have more features to offer. Will these 'features' be like the others they've already shown that are things they've taken away and repackaged as shiny new additions. I'm half expecting them to say you will have to feed the xbone your first-born through the disc-tray to confirm your allegiance.

Loved my 360, love my games on it.....

No backwards compatibility was one nail

No transfer on Xbox live Arcade games to Xbox One (360 DLC add ons was a factor for me as well, but mute due to no backwards compat)A nail and a half

Always online... My work means i live in different places throughout the year, not all of them have internet connections.... another nail.

Used games... big bloody Nail, MS would want to clear up what they are doing with this pronto!

registrations, DRM, Im an old fashioned disk kinda guy... Nail.

Price... meh.. not as bad as i thought, but PS is a hundred euro cheaper, bent nail.

Kinnect... meh, don't have one, no interest in it, the big brother unseeing eye thing is already being done by facebook and google so meh, the Men in Black haven't grabbed me yet. I can't imagine microsoft making any difference to this. Bent Nail.

Breach of consumer trust... A whole bloody coffin. From all of the above, to giving policy power and preference to companies like EA over consumers, to being labeled as 'backwards' by Execs like Don Mattrick, or given the 'Deal with it' middle finger by underlings like Adam Orth... Whatever good will or brand loyalty i might have had to the Xbox Franchise is now gone. Im not going to give my hard earned cash to a company who's execs behave like arrogant children.

Edit: just saw this on another forum
http://ie.ign.com/articles/2013/06/12/gamers-without-internet-can-stick-with-xbox-360-says-microsoft

Microsoft... sigh.... Nails, coffin, and now shovel.

I have for the past few gens got every main console because I like games and dont want to not be able to play one purely because I dont have the machine for it.

But next gen the Xbone has disgusted me so much that I have completely discounted it, even if it has the best games in history I will not touch it I just cannot believe the stupidity and arrogance of Microsoft (well I can but I was hoping otherwise).

I will continue watching the PS4 and WiiU and will probably get both at some point when there are a few games I want on them.

If what the Xbox One offers becomes the norm then I will be done with gaming its just not a direction I wish to go in, its also why I game very little on the PC now thanks to all the DRM excluding GOG.

I loved my Xbox 360 much more than the PS3 early on since it had a decent variety of games that were worth the time to play. Plus it later on allowed me to play the few games from EA that weren't horrible products without using their origin service. Unfortunately, everything went downhill after kinect got released. I've basically cancelled my Xbox Live subscription and while I'll be keeping my old games and hard drive, likely going to sell my old 60gb white brick with network adapter for the few bucks it is probably worth.

Next generation I'm definitely returning to the console manufacturers I grew up with, though I'm giving the PS4 some room to breath and get games released on it first. I jumped into the pool too soon with the 3ds and Vita and intend to learn from that mistake.

Also, I loved Bungies Halo Trilogy, even the parts of it that weren't exactly the strongest like ODST and Halo 3. They know how to build interesting encounters that have an almost Nintendo like playfulness to them, which is what attracted me to the series to begin with. The fact they are free from the chains of their old franchise and able to take what they learned to a whole new game is pretty exciting. The only way I could see them making their game any better is if they managed to somehow combine the colorful palette of an Unreal Tournament like weapon set with the systematic take down strategies they've shown so far in Destiny.

I really only liked my 360 for Halo. And Lost Odyssey. So, not a big deal. Was tired of the Halo series after Reach anyway. PS4 looks promising but I don't agree with the decision to charge 5 bucks to access multiplayer. Sure, it's only 5 bucks, but it's more the principle of it. Free online was a big draw for me picking up the PS3. But I might still get PS4 for Final Fantasy XV. I'm definitely getting a Wii U sometime. For now, I'll enjoy current gen and 3DS. I'm happy to wait for next-gen libraries to build up a bit.

Things were going so well. And then they made Windows 7. It all kind of spirals down from there.
You think Windows 7 was worse than the Vista? Huh.

OT. I will probably not get this generation of consoles as a Student I can't really splash that much cash. I'll be sticking to my PC, but I really hope Sony wins by a country mile. I want listening to the consumer to be rewarded.
Windows Vista was a bad version of XP.
Windows 7 is a good version of a Mac OS.
So yes, Vista is better.
