well I was actually going to get this, hell I probably wouldn't even use the fleet mechanic, but now I'll avoid it or buy used on sheer principle, you don't get to pull crap like this and still get my money Ubisoft, not that I imagine it'll make the slightest difference to them

Considering that Zaeed was add-on content and not having him didn't affect the game at all. If I read this article correctly, this fleet stuff is part of the main game and locked off if you don't buy new. That's a fair difference I'd say.

OT: Wow, so much for renting this from Redbox or the like. Goddammit Ubisoft you BETTER not pull this petty bullshit with South Park later this year. So HELP me I'll find a way to get back at you for it.

Still gonna buy it. I don't see why taking out a minor (and honestly kinda shit) feature as a small incentive to buy new is such a major issue to some people. Also I'm just gonna throw this out there: so far I like Uplay better than Steam.
I don't know how a sane person could ever possibly say that, but it IS Halloween, so I'm going to assume you're one of them there undead, freshly risen, who thinks Steam is just something that makes your rotted zombified skin smell like mould. ;)

I kid, I kid. But seriously, what do you like better about Uplay? I can't think of one thing I like about it, period. Let alone something that could rival Steam. Heck, I'd put Origin above uplay. But that's me. It's all subjective, I guess.

Rage is right :)

I don't care about multiplayer but I won't be buying the game for two reasons.
1. I have all the previous games on Xbox 360 and they're giving extra single player content to the PS3 now.
2. Once the servers are down I don't want to lose part of my game.

This doesn't affect me personally because I have preordered this game for PC. But it does set a rather bad precedent. Ubisoft needs to drop this attitude as fast as possible, because it could result in a shitstorm, which may hurt their sales more than used game sales.

and there goes Ubisoft and pisses on everybody, ... again.
Fixed that for you.

OT: Seriously what the fuck Ubisoft. Sure I wasn't going to buy this game, but I'm looking forward to Watchdogs and Farcry 4. If you pull bullshit like this with those games, it's only going to discourage me from buying them.

Seriuosly, why people still buy their stuff?
I was actually going to ask the same thing "Wait...people are actually planning on BUYING this game?" Granted, this news does indeed show what a giant sack of dicks Ubisoft is, but it also implies that people are actually buying this game and would thus have a true reason to be upset about this.

I mean after Brotherhood's poor reception, Revelation's insult of a game, and ACIII's utter failure, I just can't wrap my head around the thought of more than a couple thousand people buying this game. This franchise should be dead, plain and simple.

I mean look at this game, they were so desperate to try and get fans back that they based it around the only mechanic that people actually liked from ACIII: the naval combat. Throw in pirates because they're still popular...right? RIGHT?! And POOF! Here's your new AC game!
AC is a huge franchise. people anticipate them almost like they anticipate GTA games. everyone i know is excited about AC4 andi m the only one not buying here. so yeah, people DO buy them as hotcakes. Brotherhood was the only one that really had poor reception. The others made huge profits for boobiesoft. This franchise wont die for the same reason COD wont die - becuase its profitable as hell.

Is there, like, some sort of physical anthropomorphism of Ubisoft that I could punch in the face repeatedly? Is that a thing that can happen? The level of sheer willful ignorance to use this kind of stupidity when even EA, quite possibly Gaming's King of Stupid Business Decisions dropped it...Ugg. And you know what? I wasn't even intending to buy used. It's just another annoyance that needn't exist and does nothing to stop pirates. Oh, but used games are just as bad as piracy! The company doesn't get paid multiple times for a single copy, so that can't be fair!

grrruuuhhhh braaaaains
In seriousness: My statement has more to do with me hating basically everything about Steam other than the sales than Uplay being wonderful, but it certainly does some things better IMO. Its just generally faster, more responsive and less of a resource hog than steam, browsing long lists of games in the store is much easier thanks to it being possible to just scroll rather than making you click a button for some ungodly reason and also because when you hit back after looking at a game's page in Uplay you are returned to exactly where you were in the list, rather than back to the top like steam. I also really love using achievement points to actually unlock things. Add to that the fact that Uplay just generally bugs me less than steam (STOP PAUSING DOWNLOADS WHEN I START A GAME DAMN YOU). Literally the only reason I didn't uninstall Steam a long time ago was because of the sales. Those are the only thing Steam does better than other DD platforms.

So... it'll be the pirates that don't have to deal with this bullshit? Since, y'know, they'll crack it and so on, letting them have a more enjoyable experience then legitimate customers?
Well done Ubisoft, well done.

At least you could install and play DA:O on PC without having to be online, sure you missed out on some DLC unlocks, but that makes it better than most PC of gaming IMHO. Skyrim requires registering on Steam and doesn't even give you any free stuff for your trouble
I remember just being happy I could mod Skyrim, as I was afraid that Steam would block such manipulation.

I'm not the biggest Steam fan, but it's been relatively innocuous, in my case (thankfully). Although, to be fair, I generally attempt to avoid Steam versions if possible, so as to reduce potential frustration.
