Maybe some of you guys can help me out to figure out what's going on and if I should be really worried about what's going on with my body.

About 4 days ago I started having really bad chest pains on the right side of my body. It hurts from my neck to about 2/3s of my stomach. I've been having a hard time breathing and it's like a constant pressure that sometimes gets worse (like a stabbing pain) when I breathe or cough or even really just move.

I've already set up a doctor's appt but I have to wait for another 15 days before they can see me. Should I just wait till my scheduled appt or should I go see an ER Dr?

I was going to tell you to see a doctor but then you said you already set up an appointment.

If the symptoms get notably worse in any way within the next 15 days, get to the phone.

My guess is some sort of blood pressure issue, but hell if I know. Don't trust me, I'm not a doctor.

ER is always a safe bet. I did not regret my ER trip. They made it all better.

Get to the ER as quickly as possible. Those pains could be worse than simple blood pressure. You have to find out what's wrong. NOW. Log off immediately and hit the ER.

COuld be any of a number of things. Broken ribs, pneumonia, appendicitis or a burst appendix, gall stones. If it's to the point where it's impossible to sleep or get any work done, go to the ER.

Could be your kidneys. Do you ever notice it being worse after you've had a lot of sugary or salty things?

man when did this forum turn into webmd?

Well it has signs and symptoms of CHF, stroke, Heart attack from the text description, However other things would need to be considered. Factors such as age, weight, habits like drinking and smoking.

It could as well be emphysema or bronchitis if smokings involved.

Given that its been going on for 4 days and youve not turned blue or dropped dead yet, Im guessing its something a little less severe. So perhaps you should look at an inbetween route and locate a local urgent care office. Less expensive than an ER, has longer hours than a doctors office and usually able to handle walkins.

Im no doctor, but I do have a minor background in EMS, to which separating and prioritizing cases was a required skill. Get the best care, as soon as possible, but look at the facts and dont overreact.

Possibly stress? Any big events coming up that your dreading?

Or have you moved something heavy recently, possibly pulled something?

Really, you already made the best decision in deciding to see a doctor, and the best advice I could give you at this point would be to head to ER if the symptoms you describe get any worse at all, or you just feel you can't wait.

EDIT: Actually screw it, a few of the people above me have made rather good points, just head to the ER, better safe than sorry, and what not.

You obviously have a chest burster inside you. Have you been in contact with Xenomorphs lately? But seriously, go to the hospital now, better safe than sorry.

Something has clearly gone horribly, horribly wrong. Get thee to an ER or Urgent Care-type clinic ASAP. And feel better!

Anything thats giving you a 'hard time breathing' is worth getting checked out in the ER.

You shouldn't have to wait 15 days for something like that. If you explained your symptoms to even a receptonist and they said don't do anything for half a month then they should be ashamed. Hospital, now.

I can't lay down to sleep. I have to sit up and then it still hurts. I've not done anything to injure myself in any way.

I don't drink or smoke and I'm only 20 yrs old. The thing about "urgent care" (or for us would be like Comcare or Statcare) is that they really won't see you unless you pay up front or you carry some insurance (I don't have the money for an up front visit and I have NO insurance of any kind)

Ah, you're American. Good luck navigating your mess of a healthcare system (I'm actually not kidding there).

Understandable, I am in the same boat myself at the moment. Well if that is the case then I say given your alternatives, better to be safe than sorry and off to the ER with you. Respitory ailments are not something you want to take a chance on.

That's literally the soonest they could get me in to see a Dr. I told them about my symptoms and asked about putting me on a list to be notified if someone cancels an appt before then. The reason why it takes so long is that school is starting here and most people are going in for physicals and shots.

The sad thing is is even the people in the ER here are touchy about that. For example, they won't do tests generally unless you have some kind of insurance and just going in and seeing a doctor is like $400 (that's ridiculous)

You are having trouble breathing go to the ER.

Do you live in a 3rd world country or something?!? 15 days to see a doctors, thats friggen insane!

If they get pissy about you going to the ER tell them your money is paying your salary and how would they act if they couldn't breathe. Dont take no crap my friend!

EDIT: and if they treat you like crap, threaten legal action for emotional distress! (you'll win since people tend to be sympathetic to breathing problems, especially if you drop a sympathy line such as "My mom almost died from undiagnosed asthma and had a severe atttack")

Just be careful.. If you start feeling noticeably worse anytime before your appointment, like shooting pain, fever, or blood in saliva or waste, don't wait. 9-1-1 and get an ambulance, or go to the ER.

My brother just had to have emergency surgery for gall bladder removal (gall stones). If it's some kind of infection, that can be really touchy.
