Anything by Bob Dylan. That's why his songs are covered so much - no matter how bad a job you do, it's always going to sound like gold compared to the original.
Excellent songwriter, abysmal singer.

OT: In terms of the disparity between two versions, this is the best cover I have ever heard. The original is definitely not my cup of tea.

Please excuse the terrible video. There used to be a better one, containing classic film footage, but that seems to have gone AWOL.

Here are some of the covers I've actually liked over that of the originals

Better Cover [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wdn8KFxdVgE] : Deathstars - White Wedding
Cover [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a8d-Kx4S9OE] : White Wedding - Murderdolls
Original [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tgFh4RHgn0A] : White Wedding - Billy Idol

-------------------------------

Cover [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m6VojYGrnpg] : Sweet Dreams - Marilyn Manson
Original [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rJE_Sc1Wags] : Sweet Dreams - Eurythmics

-------------------------------

Cover [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ktv2C9vnRKU] : Imagine - APC
Original [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-b7qaSxuZUg] : Imagine - John Lennon

I'll go looking for more in my music collection.

I prefer Joe Cocker's "With a Little Help From My Friends" over the original Beatles version. He took a song that wasn't all that special off of Sgt. Pepper and turned it into a powerful, yet soulful ballad. It picks me up every time I hear it.

I hope it's completely accepted that nobody here is going to escape un-unliked, so I guess I'll get it over with.

I preferred Green Day's "Working Class Hero" to the original. Bam.

That's a cover? I don't listen to a lot of Lacuna Coil, but still... Curious.
I was gonna mention Children Of Bodom's cover of Oops I Did It Again, original by Britney Spears. But I done been ninja'd.
Actually, pretty much every cover they've done is awesome...

I am currently unable to provide any video or audio, but I strongly recommend that you look dis shit up.
"Holy Diver" by kill.switch engage is much better than the one by Dio.

Check it out yo.
You trippin'? Haha, no I love both bands, and both versions of that song. But I am just a massive fan of Dio, as amazing as Killswitch's cover is, and objectively it is the better one, I love Dio's voice too damn much to accept any substitute.

Pretty much any song off of 99 Songs of Revolution by Streetlight Manifesto. Especially the Such Great Heights cover.

Reel Big Fish's version of Operation Ivy's "Unity"

Some songs just work better with a horn section. And, you know, good vocals.

I was a big fan of the Beatles' "Come Together," until I heard Aerosmith's cover. Their rock and roll/blues style definitely added to the song. I also much prefer Marilyn Manson's "Personal Jesus" cover over Depeche Mode's original or Johnny Cash's cover.
