Sega: No. No. You gamers aren't allowed to play Sonic Colours. It's only for 3-D sonic game fans. And for kids. 3-D Sonic game loving kids between the ages of 6-12 of inuit descent with green eyes and names that begin with A. If you're not part of this demographic you just won't understand Sonic Colours. But we don't care. Because it's not for you.

Hey now, all games are meant to be fun, the only question is who they're meant to be fun for.

Sega's saying, "Sonic Colors" is not meant to be fun for the "Core" audience.
Note that "Core" audience is something different from "Hardcore" audience. "Core" refers to the greater bulk of established gamers, while "Hardcore" refers to the exceptionally excessive gamer. "Casual" refers to those who only "casually" (not regularly) play games.

Considering this, the proper translation goes like this:

Sonic Colors is meant to be fun by people who have not played enough games to be considered a "core" gamer.
This is the dumbest explanation I have ever heard. :-O
I think it rather translates to: "Nitpicky douchebags won't enjoy this."
Now you've got me curious as to the specifics as to why it's such a dumb explaination.

I really hope either game isnt too easy or too short.
The theme song is too awesome to be wasted on an easy / short game ;_;

I'm so confused...I played Sonic when I was a kid and loved it sooo why would you need to make a special game for kids?

Are people really upset about this? They're releasing TWO Sonic games. The Sonic fanbase is cut into three distinct camps. Casual, Core, and Furry (the first two being the only two that actually play the game, so let's focus on them). Casual and Core usually have to share the game, leading to one and/or the other being disappointed that the game isn't what they expected. This time around, there are TWO Sonic games. One for kids and people who don't want any challenge, and the other for fans of the original games that actually required some skill. I would think that this would be music to the ears of the Sonic fanbase.

No-one who has played Sonic 2006 can honestly tell me it was meant to be fun. For anyone. Even masochists would lose their buzz during the load screens.

Because modern sonic games are based on annoying trial and error, killing the player repeatedy until they learn the precise sequence of commands to get past each section, and frequently abrogating their own rules about what a given command will do (for instance, rail transfers, Sonic Unleashed actually has a button to do them, meaning you're significantly less likely to die trying now, but try it on a corner and you'll fly off into oblivion because they haven't programmed it to account for corners).

I want Sonic Adventure 3. Thats what -I- want. With an improved Chao garden mode with online modes.

Yes, I loved raising Chao.

It's a matter of extent. Most of the stuff about Mario or Pokemon is done as a joke to be a joke because "it's sooo wrong" or whatever. On the other hand there is an entire subculture dedicated to anthromorphic sexuality and people dressing up like animals in fursuits and such, people can do that as a lifestyle choice/kink if it's their thing, but it does mean that you see a lot more porn, and "serious" porn at that, about Sonic (and other anthromorphic characters).

Just an opinion, like many things I don't expect everyone to agree with me or go "OMG Theru, how insightful, I agree completly and unconditionally.... please become my personal life-Guru". Good thing too. I don't have the right hair to be a Guru
Frankly, you're wrong about this. There is a lot of serious pokemon porn (actually more than the Sonic stuff) and a fair amount of Mario stuff out there. I don't know why you think it's not serious. For the most part, it is (assuming by serious you mean designed to provoke a sexual response).

Maybe Sega is retroactively saying to all the unpleasable Sonic fans who didn't like any of the 3D games that they weren't ever the target audience.

It seems they are regressing backwards with the francise, which, is not a totally bad thing, I think. It means, maybe get people who had never playedi t before, like, young people, into sonic

It is easy: Nobody really knows what a casual or a core gamer is, that's why. This is why it is a dumb explanation, cause you are just parrotting buzzwords said by analysts, who desperetaly tried to make up a reason for Wii's success. I have never seen such things as a "hardcore" or "casual" gamer before this generation, so what's the point of dividing the gamers now, except helping the gaming snobs who call themselves "hardcore" gamers because they played MW2 once to feel better and buy more "hardcore" games (read: same game over and obver again).

I find it hard to look forward to Sonic 4 when it comes off more and more as just a lazy retread.

Also lack of Robotnik. I never cared for Eggman's design.
Robotnik and Eggman are the same guy.
Robotnik was an Overlander formerly known as Julian Kintobor (creative eh?) Eggman is actually a robotic version of Julian from another dimension. When Robotnik died, Eggman moved in to fill the hole in that Sonic Universe.

Besides, up until Adventure we primarily grew up with two main designs.

Archie series (the better of the series' versions,) and classic Robotnik, respectively.[/spoiler]

This doesn't worry me too much. If Sonic Unleashed was also meant to be a children's game, it was one of the hardest children's games I've played. I'd like to see how many 10-year-olds could beat EggmanLand 3 times without dying for the challenge missions. At this point, I'd just like Sonic Colors to get some good reviews, and a reduced difficulty might help prevent some of the cheap deaths that reviewers love to moan about.

I'm trying to be fairly diplomatic, but what I'm point at specifically is the furry subculture. You do not have people dressing up as Pokemon or Mario characters and having sex as a lifestyle choice. It might happen as some isolated kink, but it's on a lower level.

I'm relatively tolerant when it comes to furries compared to many, but I think it's their existance and the way they have embraced Sonic that makes all the differance.

I do NOT think that children seeing this will be converted into becoming furries or that it's some insidious plan or anything. But I do think there is more serious porn of this type than for other similar things, and the way it links into a lifestyle is going to make it more disturbing for children who run into it. The guy doing pokemon porn, or mario porn, or whatever is generally not going to have a 20 page rant on his site explaining why this is right and natural, making it clear he lives a lifestyle about it, etc...

Watch as it becomes the first great 3D Sonic in ages, and the old fans love it.
Probably one of the funniest things I've read yet today.
