Thanks Sony, you blithering idiots.

I smell a class action brewing

You know how people used to be paranoid/resistant to joining digital services like this and buying things through them?

Yeah, this is why.

Well at least they're doing something enterprising with their talents.

Annoying? I suppose, but nothing too critical, not for me anyway. And at least I have someone to blame if I start getting an inordinate number of Viagra offers in my inbox.

I do feel sorry for the PSN users over this.

It is a horrible thing to happen. And i hope no one here suffers from it.

However I now have to go to a friend of mine and make him eat his PS3 fanboy words. >:)

Good ol' hackers. Fighting for your consumer rights against the evil corporation that takes away your rights...

Oh wait they have been douchebags the whole time in this case. Nevermind. Fuck you Geohotz for probably causing all this by releasing that code. If not then you certainly encouraged it.
So you're blaming Geohot and "hackers"... for stealing your credit card data? Hah.

Nope, matey. This is just good old fashioned online criminals.

Thank God, that since I never wanted to buy anything off the PSN, I didn't include my credit card number. Changed the mail password though.

Fuck you, hackers. Just fuck you.

Fuck Sony man, hackers have teh rightz!!!!!

WHOO WHOO!

Oh, right, no. Fuck them.

Still, I access my account regularly so I'll know if anything gets taken out. I'll end up emptying it myself anyway - oh the joys of having no expenses!

Sony are incompetents.
For not being 100% hack-proof?
Yeah.

For being unable to protect private information entrusted upon them.
Anyone with a shred of sense should know that there's a possibility their data will be stolen. No, its not fair, or what we want, but shit happens.

Just because there is still street crime doesn't make it fair to deem the police incompetent.

Wow. Sony has got to have the weakest security system in history. You never hear about this sort of problem on Steam, despite the PC being, if anything, a more open system than even a cracked PS3. I've said it before, I'll say it again; if you're going to make a console that has the potential to be made into an open system, make a PC style security system for it, because it will eventually be cracked wide open. Walled gardens are a thing of the past, and I think Sony just learned this the hard way.

That's a hell of a big security breach. Just to be on the safe side I'll be changing all my passwords, but I suppose it's a good thing I haven't updated my billing/home address since I moved.

i'm fucking glad the only way i bought stuff was with those cards that you get in stores. I'm not sure if i put any info on there that matters I'll have to check when it back up. i only use debit cards and that in my coat pocket so they can't steal any money and it wasn't on my psn account anyway so i don't think i have anything to worry about maybe change my password but that's about it

You mind explaining how a hack to run homebrew code on your PS3 enabled the entire security of the PSN to be compromised? Sony's horrendous security is at fault here, not hackers playing homebrew code.
The PSN was obviously prepared for stuff like this to happen before hence no massive issues like this yet.

It wasn't prepared to deal with hackers potentially having the end all be all code that jailbreaks the PS3.

Holy hell, thats potentially Millions of PSN users that are at risk! This is some serious shit right here... I'm included of corse, everything seems ok at the moment, but now I gotta fear some asshole has all my info and can begin to steal my identity. Great going Hackers, I'm looking at you too GeoHot. Great revolution you guys got going. Now just leave us all the fuck alone.

I think to many people are assuming that Sony knew from the get go that our personal info was taken. If they did, then yes Sony corporate is looking like a huge ass. If they just recently uncovered the information and let us know as soon as they were sure, well then don't we just look silly.

All I am saying is yeah this sucks, but automatically assuming that they are out to screw us seems a little bit silly.

holy shit, this is horrendous.

Makes you wonder how many companies have data about you that's equally endangered. Steam? MS Live? Amazon? Paypal?

haha, now what has Geohot in common with these hackers? the label our mainstream media gave them?

This aren't some activists trying to punish sony, this is just information theft. It's about money, not ideologies

Online criminals who wouldn't have been able to do this without the help of Geohotz. And "hackers" those hackers are the criminals. They are one and the same. Period.

Oh, for fuck's sake, Sony should've taken better security measures, but I suppose someone smart enough to get around them would've come along eventually. This is really sad, a few of us are certainly going to get our identity's stolen.

So, wonder who supports the Hackers now...
I've never supported the sort of asshole hackers that are involved here. However I still support any hacker who tries to fight for transparency in government and/or consumer rights. A locksmith can use his expertise to help someone get into their own house or break into someone's house with the intention of stealing their shit. It is the same thing with hackers.

Okay, I officially do not care when the online services are back up. This is, frankly, quite scary news.
