Honestly, what's the point of this anymore? All of the consoles have been slowly working to destroy their core fanbase with little tweaks, or larger ones if you look at Nintendo. Xbox has been doing the least, but I don't think I was alone when I assumed the Slim PS3 would help push Sony back up there.
It's sad to say, but a good part of me is just screaming to forget the consoles, and hop onto the PC. Yes, we won't get some exclusive titles, but Sony's claim that people are buying it for those titles feels a little peculiar. Some of them, such as Little Big Planet, were great, but despite the fact that the console has been out for well over two years, it has lacked to produce anything truly spectacular, or at least only 5 games worth mentioning have appeared.
But hey, this is what being a corporation is all about, right? Nintendo already has shown us with the 'we're not targeting our core fanbase anymore' E3 situation, and completely flipped on it when they started to lose some popularity, crawling back to the core fanbase with a few measly games that we could probably have the same experience playing the original version. But what will Sony do? Sony has been in hot water with their console since they first announced the price tag. It's been a series of problems with a key notice being the fact that they ignore their fans.
Sony, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, specifically because this has been said far too many times, but the console needs backwards compatibility. A good chunk of the people who go out to buy the console are going to sell their PS2 in the process. But I can completely understand where you're coming from because why do something for your fans when you can make more money instead? It only makes sense if you think about it. If a person buys a PS3 that isn't backwards compatible, then they had to have a PS2 in their household as well. Having two Sony consoles in one home is bound to be worth while to their figures, but it's the sheer fact that simply for money, they're willing to throw their fanbase under the bus.
Congratulations Sony, you've reached the same level of hatred that some people feel for Nintendo. We all hope you pull you heads out of the ground before you push out the next big move.
