I'm sorry what? I'm a PSN user and I wasn't informed. At all. In any way shape or form. Not even warned about the possibility. I mean....I'd have loved to have been told. I mean...An email would have been nice. So I call LIES! Or at least not the full truth.
Learn to read the blog (both EU AND US blogs posted about it several times) AND their Twitter accounts. It was made well aware, and members of those blogs knew about it because they READ IT WHEN IT HAPPENED.
I'm thinking that major gaming news sites check up on these blogs periodically. Why are they so surprised about it then?

Well it's good to know they've put more effort into legal damage control than security.

Honestly, I haven't seen a single email message yet on the unique email address I gave them. If not for gaming sites I would still be going 'derp? derp derp derp.' and scratching my testicles.

There's no way someone could get away with breaching Sony utterly scott-free. Sony has a lot of money they can throw into finding them. Either they have no foresight, they are some damn cocky bastards, or they are actually that good. My bet is one of the first two... or both.

yeah I haven't been sent an e-mail either. I'm pretty sure that's some serious business to not be told of.

and to those who say read the blogs... it should be the company's job to inform of us any changes to service, or whether our information is compromised.

Sony, your pants are on fire.
This is all I can think about when I see that post.

OT: While I'd usually jump on top of this with my cleats of lying and a backpack filled with the dumbbells of bullshit I'm actually inclined to kinda believe them. Maybe all my steam is gone, or maybe we've all just been overly critical of Sony as of late. The only thing I can be sure of is that the sooner Sony gives us a "back online" date the better.

....You're kidding, right? You'd prefer a gaming news site, who are known for spinning the truth and giving biased reports, rather than reading the blog directly from the source as it happens?

Not gonna lie, I'm actually not surprised. Typical stupid people who don't read things properly. Assuming it will be in e-mails.. Ugh.. E-MAILS WERE "POSSIBLY" COMPROMISED. They stated "any e-mails that claim to be from us might just not be from us, be careful". Your own damn fault if you don't read up on it yourselves.

Bitin' mah style....

But yeah, it appears Sony wasn't just sitting around with their heads in the dirt. They were working to check the scope of the damage and then notified us after they discovered it. Probably didn't wanna cause a panic. We could probably say it was irresponsible not to tell us, even if they weren't aware of the scope. We can say a lot o' stuff. Hindsight does that.

Anyway, Sony, I will call you out on the fact that I got no such notification. I feel unloved...

E-MAILS. COMPROMISED. Does this not compute? Read their damn official blog! They've been keeping people updated on both EU AND NA sites since it started! Even when they couldn't really report much, they updated people. Comments on the blog sites are rather contrary to what's been said here. People THANKING Sony for keeping them updated. Learn to read.

Never said I preferred anything, I'm just saying that you seem to be the only person in the world who had any forewarning about this whole thing. How'd you get so lucky, when people who are paid to find out information weren't able to?

You know, I think we're all getting the email at sporadic times which wouldn't surprise me as this is a mass email that they have to spread.

PSN is still down? Disappointing.

Luckily for me the debit card on that account has been defunct for a year now, I haven't gotten round to putting my new one in. I think the only sensitive data they might have is my Facebook password, which would hardly be a devastating loss if they were so petty as to attack that.

I haven't received any word from Sony yet, I only know about the issue through the Escapist.

Sony should provide some manner of compensation for this appalling lapse in security. If this were to happen to Paypal they'd be ruined, if this happened to Steam they're would have to be one hell of a sale to bring in any new customers for a while and it would be a serious blow to download sales against traditional retail. I somehow have a feeling Steam would handle this infinitely better and be anxious to make amends in some way.

I wonder how many millions of dollars in lawsuits and lost customers this whole debacle is going to cost Sony? This is the kind of thing that would put a smaller company out of business, so you know it's going to hurt them substantially.

The hell they did, it was like 2 days before they even alluded to external attacks, and it wasn't till yesterday they talked about CC info possibly being stolen.

Compared to say? 5-8 months until I received noticed from my health insurance company that my information was stolen? This is BY FAR the most QUICKEST possible response ever. 1 week doesn't even give time for the hackers to properly verify the account information that was retrieved.

Now, lets look at the facts.

Major, major health insurance company that sponsors millions upon millions of people. Information is stolen, identity theft and fraud has happened, told about it half a year later.

Sony is hacked, shut down services to find out the problem, lets people know 1 week after the situation.

I'd rather have Sony's response compared to that health insurance company's. Why was there such a long time between the information theft and the informing of customers? Because the Health Insurance company had to investigate.

Wait so I'm being blamed for expecting Sony to try to inform users who don't read their blogs/twitter feeds about a breach to normally secure information and then for calling them out on not doing so? Hmm....

To quote the quoted Sony statement it talks about how they informed the users before informing the public. Blog and Twitter accounts seem to be quite public. I may have misunderstood it as Sony being caring enough to actually privately inform those who may have been affected. Also, in addition to that if I wasn't up-to-date because I don't follow the blogs or the twitter accounts (despite being quite a gamer culture gamer (or so I like to think)) what about all of the other people who were in a similar spot to me. Is it only consumers who are that vested who deserve to be informed of any threats?

And I checked the EU blog and well...sure they've blogged about it numerous times since the 19th. How many times did they mention any possible threat to secure information? Once. On the 26th. First mention of an outsider doing it: "external intrusion" on the 23rd. However I currently can't check for the US site cuz...well it won't open (which being an EU consumer I'd totally follow) so would you kindly show me when I was informed about the threat to my personal information.

And hey, guess what Sony. I still don't have anything BESIDES these gaming sites letting me know, thanks for not sending me an email.
Exacterly. Consumer base is LARGER than those who follow the blog or twitter. Why weren't they informed?

Edit:

Sporadically? Its been a while since the 19th and I was normally informed "immediately". Sporadic....unlikely.
