Theres lots of corporate ass covering and lawyer consulting that must occur before they send the warnings.

Its not like one guy in the IT department figures out there was data theft and then immediately sends an email. Come on. That guy makes calls, takes lunch, meets with his supervisor, who cries, then calls a meeting with HIS supervisors, who freak out and call the lawyers, who take some time to draft the details.

The fact you know anything at all at this juncture is surprising to me.

I'm sorry what? I'm a PSN user and I wasn't informed. At all. In any way shape or form. Not even warned about the possibility. I mean....I'd have loved to have been told. I mean...An email would have been nice. So I call LIES! Or at least not the full truth.
Learn to read the blog (both EU AND US blogs posted about it several times) AND their Twitter accounts. It was made well aware, and members of those blogs knew about it because they READ IT WHEN IT HAPPENED.
I'm thinking that major gaming news sites check up on these blogs periodically. Why are they so surprised about it then?
....You're kidding, right? You'd prefer a gaming news site, who are known for spinning the truth and giving biased reports, rather than reading the blog directly from the source as it happens?

Not gonna lie, I'm actually not surprised. Typical stupid people who don't read things properly. Assuming it will be in e-mails.. Ugh.. E-MAILS WERE "POSSIBLY" COMPROMISED. They stated "any e-mails that claim to be from us might just not be from us, be careful". Your own damn fault if you don't read up on it yourselves.
Never said I preferred anything, I'm just saying that you seem to be the only person in the world who had any forewarning about this whole thing. How'd you get so lucky, when people who are paid to find out information weren't able to?
Because they're not doing their job properly. Most gaming news sites just copypasta from the actual source and only report when there's something controversial. I like Frank_Sinatra_'s reasoning.. Those with air-cooled brains can't read for themselves. PlayStation Blog was definitely updated daily and they constantly mentioned to follow their Twitter feed for even more updates as they were working around the clock. Not my problem if people didn't read.

While I do agree partially, the updates that they have been giving us are generally things like "we are working as hard as we can" "we are working as quickly and efficiently as we can to get the service back up" "we are dedicated to getting the service back up day and night", it's nothing really substantial. Just constant mothering of "it's okay, everything is okay, we're doing what we can, it's okay, it's okay."

There's no way someone could get away with breaching Sony utterly scott-free. Sony has a lot of money they can throw into finding them. Either they have no foresight, they are some damn cocky bastards, or they are actually that good. My bet is one of the first two... or both.
It may be more difficult than you think -- no matter the available financial resources. If Sony follows the trail and it ends up at some ISP, what are they gonna do? Kick in the door and start rummaging through records? Unless the hacker's sitting down the hallway from the server he hacked (which does happen sometimes), hack jobs don't usually get solved unless law enforcement gets involved -- they have the authority to kick in doors and nosy around file cabinets.

Wait, you are the one that has to be kidding.

Reason to be biased:

Escapist: None

Sony: If they don't make it sound like it wasn't their fault they could lose millions of dollars in consumer loyalty and litigation.

Gaming sites have no reason to be biased here, while Sony has EVERY reason to be biased, I don't like to throw the term "fanboy" around, but in your other posts you established that you think every PSN user should is responsible for keeping up with their blog, and just made this last post which as I just demonstrated is completely logically backwards.

Compared to say? 5-8 months until I received noticed from my health insurance company that my information was stolen? This is BY FAR the most QUICKEST possible response ever. 1 week doesn't even give time for the hackers to properly verify the account information that was retrieved.

Now, lets look at the facts.

Major, major health insurance company that sponsors millions upon millions of people. Information is stolen, identity theft and fraud has happened, told about it half a year later.

Sony is hacked, shut down services to find out the problem, lets people know 1 week after the situation.

I'd rather have Sony's response compared to that health insurance company's. Why was there such a long time between the information theft and the informing of customers? Because the Health Insurance company had to investigate.
THIIIIIIS. Oh lord, it's so good to see actually sane people in this community like @Frank_Sinatra_!

I'm a fanboy, am I? Then why do I only own a 360 and a PSP (which I barely use)? Hmmmmm? Yeah, that's what I thought. Nice try. Journalists are journalists. They'll report on what they think will garner the most views and comments on their articles. They don't write original articles. Most of the recent stuff has been copypasta from the source.

Wait....owning a PSP doesn't make you a Sony fandboy? ........Alright, whatever, I don't even know what to say to that.

Tell me this, where can these gaming sites get any information on the PSN problem BESIDES the source, seriously, you accuse them of copying it from the source as if that's a bad thing, so tell me what the alternative is?

While you're at it, you've yet to explain why Sony has less of a reason to be biased than these gaming sites.

He didn't pretty much everyone on the psblogs or that logged onto playstation website had the same info. I don't know they have been talking about it on the blog basically since the PSN went down. Which is the first place I went once the network was down. It seemed logical to me the psn does not seem to be working check playstation blog might be info there. Which seems like a reasonable thing to do.

I received an email with basically what was posted on the blog about the intrusion today. Which is the first email I got. I am not saying they have handled it the best buy I can also see the point in not getting people into a big huff and puff without information to give.

Yes, because they WERE working on it. Trying to work out WHAT was done, HOW it was done and WHAT the damage was. They're not going to announce something false, going off half-cocked. No. They gathered the right information, with PSN confirmed as offline and constantly informed. Not my problem if people aren't smart enough to keep up to date on the console they apparently like to play. I follow Major Nelson on Twitter as well for all Xbox news.

The Escapist has no reason to be biased? C'mon, man. By their own admission, they are "the mouthpiece of the gaming generation." Do you come here for the fair and balanced news coverage? If so, point it out to me. Because I see a whole lotta opinionated editorial masquerading as news coverage. Like referring to Anonymouse as "freedom fighters" and urging EgoHot on by saying "Go, GeoHot!!" Which is cool. I don't mind. Like they say, they are the mouthpiece of gamers. Not the game makers. But I certainly don't expect them to be fair and balanced and lacking an opinion that they're willing to state on issues. That's seems to be their job: representing the side of gamers over the side of game makers.

"We learned there was an intrusion April 19th and subsequently shut the services down," Seybold continued. "We then brought in outside experts to help us learn how the intrusion occurred and to conduct an investigation to determine the nature and scope of the incident. It was necessary to conduct several days of forensic analysis, and it took our experts until yesterday to understand the scope of the breach. We then shared that information with our consumers and announced it publicly this afternoon (April 26)."
How pray tell did you accomplish that, seeing as my inbox is devoid of any PSN emails. No phone calls either, or letters as of yet. Or did you guys use smoke signals? Yeah, that must be it. See, we have had some miserable weather over here...
