Sony Explains (Poorly) Why Only PS3 Can Do God of War III

One would have thought the main reason is that it's one of the PS3 exclusive series.

Sony owns the God of War IP, so let them put the game on the PS3. They really do not need to justify why it is on the PS3 and no other game system.

About the only thing that could be said about the PS3 is the storage space on the discs. It takes a huge effort to fill up an entire BluRay disc with information. MGS4 used up all the space and Kojima only did it because he thought that filling the disc up with useless and repetitive information was more important than brevity. When Final Fantasy XIII gets released, the PS3 version is will be on 1 disc and the 360 version will be on 3 or 4 discs. Supposedly that is is huge difference because if you have the right kind of equipment, you can get uncompressed audio sound, no load ups and what have you on the PS3 versions of the games. I have the right equipment and I honestly cannot hear the difference between the two consoles.

What it means to God of War 3 is absolutely nothing because I do not think it not will use all of the disc space. That would be a lot of unnecessary cutscenes for this game and it would be a mistake.

Eh, don't care. At this point, it's "look at exclusive list, pick respective console." PS3 may have a bit better graphics than XBOX, but I'm okay. Sony should have really picked a better example. How bout, number of enemies on screen, procedural generated maps, gore effects etc. instead.

There's nothing that's on God of War that can't be done on the 360.

I'm a big fan of PS3 (its my favorite system) but sometimes Sony can be a bit smug about what they think is doable on their systems.
THEN it wouldnt be console exclusive and give a reason to buy a ps3 because you have a 360 and can get the game there.

It's console exclusive because Sony own the IP, just as Microsoft owns Halo's IP which is why Halo 3 isn't on the PS3.

/duh?

And anyway, what else would he list? The 360 doesn't have anything else this year (or ever) that you can't get a better version of on PC (except of course those overmarketed testoterone filled space marine games). But no, the PC isn't a legit system, so it MUST be exclusive.....
Do me a favor, take a second and look what company is behind the 360...Done? Ok.
Now go look what company is behind Windows, and makes use of Games for Windows Live...Done? Ok.
Now slap self.

Hmm since when was HDR a new feature? Also I do realize that you have the rights to releasing the game solely on the PS3 but saying it can ONLY be done on the PS3 is a poor argument indeed. I haven't seen anything released on the PS3 that can't be done on the 360 and this is no exception.

John Funk(the person who wrote this article) your are a fool,

Read here

a quote from EuroGamer

"Few games on 360 run with 'proper' HDR. Halo 3 is one of them, but this comes at a cost of a sub-HD resolution and no anti-aliasing. In the case of Final Fantasy XIII, the drop down to MDR simply makes more sense as opposed to savagely cutting down resolution or anti-aliasing."

Sony PR was RIGHT, as consoles only the PS3 can do proper HDR on HD resolution and also because PS3 is the only console to have bluray.

with this article, and you also posted on N4G your making a fool out of your self.

I have that exact thought process whenever a Sony fanboy decides to say that the 360 has no "true exclusives" because they come out for GWL also.

I wouldn't mind Sony's pompousness if they were actually making breakthroughs in technology here. Crysis was a breakthrough, the original Unreal was a breakthrough; HDR has been around for at least five years.

Hate to sound like an elitist, but does anyone find it the slightest bit amusing that most if not all technological breakthroughs in gaming show up on the PC first?

Oh man the irony.

Doesn't explain why it can't work on the PC which will always have higher processing capability, graphics, sound, memory and blu-ray drives as well.

As always, a console bragging about hardware is pointless: PCs will always be better. Always. May as well just stick to "We own the IP. Buy a PS3 if you want it, suckers."

None of this changes the fact that the same visual effect was accomplished in an early PS2 game thanks to clever art direction instead of relying on brute force.

There's probably tons of things in GOW3 that Sony can legitimately crow triumphantly about. Tricky lighting is not one of them.

And who the hell posted on N4G? I stay far, far away from that cesspool.

You know, Valve's new lighting system is using HDRL too, but they're being less of a dick about it.
