Their "everything" slogan never sat well with me. It was like they were saying the PS3 could do everything you ever wanted a device to do and you'd be a loser for not getting one (so I'm a big loser since I never got one). how lousy is that to post an update for the system to remove features that served as a selling point for the device?! That's like a recall on your car, and when you get it back, you no longer can use the radio. What kind of crap is that? If it does everything, I'd certainly say being backwards compatible is under the "everything" umbrella.
Butler doesn't really seem to sell me on the PS3. He might be Sony's version of Billy Mays, but the sales pitches don't work on me. Like the one running on television now for God of War 3 with that whiny ***** in it complaining about her boyfriend spending more time on his PS3 than with her. I have no clue what this commercial is trying to advertise, unless it is saying that your PS3 will convert you into an antisocial video game addict.
MS hasn't done things right either with the 360, and who gives a flying dump about the Wii. I'm entirely too old to be messing with a Wii when I've got no kids, so I'm not even touching that. 360's backwards compatibility is a joke in my opinion. The stupid thing locks up on KOTOR, and that just isn't right. As for the difference in the controllers, the subtle move to keep the standard design of the Playstation controller was a nice move. It is nice to be able to pick up a controller spanning three incarnations without needing a tutorial on how to use it. That sense of familiarity works well in their favor, but really only appeals to customers who have owned PS1s and 2s. If the PS3 is your first, then what difference does the controller make? The differences between the Xbox and the 360 controllers are quite radical, being absolutely nothing alike aside from the main face button config and the thumbsticks for controls. I never did get the white and black buttons on the old controllers and was glad to see those get altered in the left and right shoulder buttons, but it still stinks when trying to play an old Xbox game. Then again, I grew up with an Atari 2600... just a joystick and one button, wooden paneling on the console, and graphics you can run on a calculator these days. Mem-o-ries...
