I still haven't bought a PS3, even though i own almost every other console of the last generation (PSP, DS, 360, even a PS2). It's still much more expensive then the other plattforms, the exclusives aren't enough of a reason for me to buy it, and i'm not that stingy about graphics, so minor quality issues on the multiplattform titles (RoF, FF13,...) don't annoy me.

And then therte is the issue that the PS3 doesn't do everything. The PS§ does less....and less....and less....first backwards compatibility, now the removal of other OS

Huzzah! Kevin Butler is amazing, shame WE UK don't have him and just have some weirdo saying "Start" doing this.

Calumon: I wanna Start Playing! I wanna Start Playing!
We do get some poor adverts don't we.

OT: I like to see a company happy

Yeah, but let's tackle the REAL issue here: do they offer you a controller without that stupid, stupid, stupid "rumblepack" thing? (Yeah, I really hate rumblepacks - I don't see how anybody but an extremely frustrated housewife could ever want to use them.) I played GTA4 on a friend's PS3 a while ago. It was ok but the controller, as usual nowadays, weighed a damn ton and you actually have to configure it to not "vibrate".

Good ads though.

Now that I think about it, my dislike of television has spared me from being subjected to the previous ads. I can't remember a single PS3 ad that I've seen. On another note, I think they just sold me the move.

I have never owned a Playstation, for a large time I was a total xbox fanboy, AND i think these ads are freakin' hilarious.

I like how they were done with a bit of humour, and what I really like is that they didn't try to bash their competitors.

I don't think arrogant is the quite the right word. More like pretentious and stupid. These new ads on the other hand are amusing and help sell the product. In other words "they work".

Yeah, arrogance doesn't sell well with me. If I hadn't picked my ps3 up used with an additional 25% discount and it was one of the backwards compatible models, I would've never bought it. I recall Sony comparing their system to the "caviar of gaming systems" back during launch. Caviar might be for the rich and snobbish (excuse me, rich and tasteful) but I remember thinking that a lot more people eat at McDonald's than any place that serves Caviar.
Well it's not like they serve McCaviar, right? Besides I don't really care about Backwards Compatibility because it draws back most of the authenticity that comes from playing that game. It feels better playing it on the console it was meant for.
No, sorry. PS2 and PS1 games both play better on PS3. My ps1 died of old age (SNES and Atari Jag still going strong!) and the ps2 was a low quality piece of shit until the 3500X series and the slims, neither of which I own (went through 3 ps2's before the 3500X came out, stopped sold the last one after I got it fixed on warranty, still have all the games). Backwards compatibility is a major selling point and Sony didn't do themselves any favors cutting it out, especially since they've been relying on brand loyalty to move ps3s.
the reason that sony took away the backwards compatibility is because they did not completely abandon the 2nd gen market. They still put out games for the ps2 when the ps3 first came out. Where as ms completely abandoned the original xbox. I wouldn't be surprised if they added the backwards compatibility back again at a later point.

No, that's the company line. The real reason is because the systems weren't selling and they were desperate to cut costs and get some return on their investment.
