It's less about not minding 3D. It's more about not having the rididculous money for the TV's they sell. I like my games as much as the next guy, but I'm not paying that just so it looks a bit more fancy.Jumplion said:Well, that's good I 'spose. Glad that Sony acknowledges that Nintendo exists.
Personally I don't mind 3D much, it'd be pretty nifty if most games had the option of going 3D. If 3D shouldn't be until the future, then the only way it's going to get there is if we push it now.
Can you blame them? If they could say something - anything - to get someone to pay $3000+ for a 3D TV that they could otherwise buy at half the price, of course they're going to do it. It looks like Sony doesn't have much hope for their handheld market anyway...Tom Goldman said:Sony must really want consumers to bite on 3D if it's happy about a competitor innovating and having success.
From what I understand, the 3DS uses camera to track the players eyes so it can make the image be at the correct angle for the 3D effect to work. This can only work with one person, so putting it on things made to be enjoyed by multiple people like TVs and theater screens is impossible.Korten12 said:if they can make a screen for the ds that requires no glasses, why dont they just make tvs that do the same?
YES! We are glad our most well known competition is making an alternative that is several thousands of dollars cheaper and glasses free then what we want them to buy!Tom Goldman said:snip
Well then don't pay for the extras, simple as that. Eventually the technology will become much cheaper like HD TV and the PS3, but it can't really happen unless it sells at least moderately well now. Pushing the technology now means that more money is taken in, therefore more money in R&D, and new, cheaper ways to produce the technology. It may not always happen, but as far as I know that how it usually does.Sparrow said:It's less about not minding 3D. It's more about not having the rididculous money for the TV's they sell. i see it like this, if the 3DS fails, sony will know not to put 3D into the PSP2, just my 2 cents,Xanthious said:Of course Sony is pleased. If this portable 3D system takes off then they have a lot of the work already done for them. If it fails then they will be able to go a different direction.
I personally think it will find moderate success. I don't doubt that the tech demos at E3 looked amazing, however, putting together a nice looking tech demo is night and day different from making a great game using this technology.
Woah where did you get that info from? Not G. That's the most creative spelling of consoles I've ever seen.Cody211282 said:I really hate this current 3D trend, I like how the new DS is shaping up but if they try to use this in counsels or anything else it's going to suck.
and amazingly enough my spell check didn't catch anything wrong, wow I should stop posting with only 3 hours of sleep and all hyped up on benadryl.CKalvin said:That's the most creative spelling of consoles I've ever seen.Cody211282 said:I really hate this current 3D trend, I like how the new DS is shaping up but if they try to use this in counsels or anything else it's going to suck.
I know, that's what I noticed, putting what looks like a flat analog stick directly above a D-pad. Looks incredibly awkward, and you still have touch-screen controls too...Nouw said:If that circle thing was on the other side I would get it in a heartbeat. No jokes, I'd buy it for the graphics and the circle if it didn't have 3D
Sound use to be considered a novelty when it came to movies. Heck some studios at the time even said sound would be a failure, claiming that audiences wouldn't want to have to watch AND listen at the same time.Swifteye said:I really don't understand what's so great about 3D. it's really eluding me why everything is touting 3D like it means something. It's a novelty. Like drinking lots of soda because your in the coca cola factory. But you wouldn't want to have all those coke drinks at your house. Espesically beverly ughhh.
The PSP is a joke mainly due to UMD and sonys lusting of proprietary formats(same for the 3DS get over using stupid limited carts use SD save everyone money and allow devs to use any amount of space they want for the game), the 2nd nub on the PSP2 should make it a bit better as far as play control goes touch screen I think is un needed but meh.Xzi said:Holy crap! We missed the last PSP fan, guys! Burn him on the stake!ZippyDSMlee said:3D=fail, from what I have seen of possable PSP2 stuff its better designed...hell..the PSPgo is better designed......well..not by much.... I mean come on it a DSI with a extra cam, quasi analog nub and 3D fad crap...its ridiculous...
OT: Sony also said that the PSPGo's failure was a success. They're great at trying to spin negatives, but everyone knows that they're full of crap. Their time in the handheld market is coming to a close. The 3DS has everything. Great graphics, backwards compatibility, a touch screen, OPTIONAL 3D, a camera, a media player...everything.
Nintendo has easily destroyed all competitors in the handheld market during the past two decades despite having inferior hardware. Now they have the best hardware AND the best game library/launch line. It's game over.
The 3D is optional and can be turned on or off at will. The graphics are incredible either way, so it's a win-win for Nintendo.irishdude said:i see it like this, if the 3DS fails, sony will know not to put 3D into the PSP2, just my 2 cents,
The PS3 is still not making a profit yet and their other divisions are not in that great a shape.Low Key said:People are so cynical here. Not all PR has a "fuck you" subtext.
Nintendo may have a more popular console and handheld system, but one thing they don't have is a television manufacturing branch, something Sony sees massive profits from. Of course they are happy with Nintendo's handheld because they have hopes when the younger generations grow up, they'll want a 3D TV. The Playstation and PSP might go away, but that doesn't mean Sony will.
Hmm...that's probably why they like Nintendo doing their part to promote 3D, doncha think? Perhaps it might lead to 3D TVs selling...maybe???ZippyDSMlee said:The PS3 is still not making a profit yet and their other divisions are not in that great a shape.
