It never helps when the owner of said product is tooting it's own horn.

Anyway, the PS2 was a record breaking console with many, many excellent titles. But to my knowledge the PS2 with all it's positives changed nothning. You know what did that generation? The XBOX. Think about it.

Forget designed to do so, any cartridge system you could nail to a wall and it would work the same because there's no moving parts. Hell my friends NES was sideways next to his TV way back when and it worked perfectly.
Why forget designed to do so?

It did, seriously, even the haters have to admit it.

Anyone who regularly goes on GamesRadar will have read recently the legitimate reasons why:

http://www.gamesradar.com/f/six-reasons-the-ps2-is-the-best-system-of-all-time/a-2010102614844106037

Actually that 2nd article is wrong, the PS2 is not the first console that works on it's side. Any cartridge system could work on it's side, you could play the gameboy on it's side!

OT: PS2 is certainly a great system, I take no sides as usual with systems but it does play more games that I like than other systems. Final Fantasy Tactics? Hell yes.
What system was designed to also be played on it's side then? And I really REALLY doubt a HANDHELD is comparable to a stationary console.
Hey, you could play any handheld console upside down. Hell, you could place your NES on the side too. Or Upside down. In fact, my GAMECUBE is on his side, it's more gansta that way.

(aka: It was the first to put plastic leg on the side... nothing more)
Ps2 was released before gamecube i think and handhelds don't count o_O, not sure why they would.
I'm just gonna paste one piece of my previous comment to respond.

FYI: NES were made in 1983... that's 17 before the PS2.
Edited my post before you responded.
If it was before, it would have also be edited on in my reply. Anyway, what i say still stand and plastic legs are hardly an improvement.

Oh, and I still have my day 1 PS2, still runs perfectly, not to mention the odd 100+ legit games I bought for it.
PS2 was the highlight of my gaming life, sadly the PS3, 360 nor Wii has offered such an experience again. :/
Legit game. Why the hell do you say LEGIT GAMES instead of just GAMES. I smell Piracy here.
Yeah bro, I'm a real fucking pirate. [http://img525.imageshack.us/img525/9071/27102010001.jpg]

If you're gonna talk like an asshole to someone, kindly fuck right off, because I didn't talk to you like that.
Then why the need to had LEGIT before game. Shouldn't you just say game? It's like asking someone not to think about the color red, you know that's all they gonna think about.
Because saying "I have around 100+ games for my PS2" sounds like I pirate even more, namely with mod chips being as popular as they were for PS2.
"The 100+ game I've bought" would have also work. Beside, now that the PS3 is in full swing, many peoples purchase PS2 games at a discounted price.

PS2 was the best console of all time. So many innovations and great titles.
You should read the comment. People are calling Bullshit those "claimed" inovations.
I see. Still I'll just point to the games library. I think PS2 had the best exclusives for that generation, and now I think 360 does.

PC ftw vs both though.
Exclusive title, (at least how good they are compare to the next guy) is a matter of taste.
Beside, Console will eat PC alive.

Ps2 is still my favorite console. It has teh most solid library of games to choose from, and the hardware doesn't break down after an angry fit or two*glares at X-box)
Ps2, you are amazing, and will only continue to get better.

Being able to play consoles that use discs, on their side is an improvement. Point is the ps2 used discs and was designed to work on its side. I admit, not the hugest thing in the world seeing as i don't use any consoles that way, but i know people that have and still do, so the ps2 deserves its credit for that.

It's all a matter of opinion. I think PC eats consoles alive for exclusives, and even cross platform it's always better on PC. This is my opinion.

I will surely, at some point in the near future, buy a new PS2. Stating that the PS2 "changed gaming forever" seems pretty non-controversial to me.

Not at all. Any PC gamer or any gamer that have a computer knows that any disk drive can work on the side. All of them. If you don't believe me, ask @Treblaine who is a notorious PC gamer.

I fail to see it. It was a game system. It had some good games on it. Nowhere near as many as on the PSX, but that could probably be attributed to the rising cost and time required to make a game. But it didn't really change anything. It was just a good system to own.

Online? Sega beat them to it.
DVD Player? Irrelevant to gaming. Besides, didn't a whole lot of people see their system die an early death because they used the DVD functionality too much?

Everything else is just an upgrade from the PSX.

In that generation, the honors of being the system to change gaming, in its own small way, goes to the XBox. No more swapping(and buying) memory cards was a pretty big deal. Less so(but I liked it) was the ability to use custom music in games that supported it.

That said, I did play my PS2 more than my XBox. What can I say? I was going through a JRPG phase.

Never said a disc drive couldn't work on its side. I emphasized the ps2 using discs because like many said, older consoles could work on their sides as well. Once again, i can't think of another console that was designed to work on its side. I still think that the ps2 deserves credit for that, considering the 360's design and all.

I think things are being taken too far, my point was more of a joke that game systems were able to do it long before PS2, PS2 was probably the only one to really show it off and take advantage of it. I wasn't aware vertical or horizontal positioning were so important on a console with much larger feats.

Ever wonder why Sony's so adamant about reminding people about the PS2 being great? Cause frankly I they'd be better served trying to convince people that the PS3 and PSP are worth spending money on

Not to knock the PS2 (I still have mine and it's great) but seriously it didn't bring much to the actual "gaming" part of console gaming. Sure it had a DVD player, sure it did online (once you bought the adaptor), but the XBox did both too and it did the online part better

Also the Dreamcast had the first mainstream online gaming capabilities of a console, so there's that as well.

Furthermore, what are some other things that changed gaming forever? How about the Console FPS?

Goldeneye and Perfect Dark certainly set the stage, and Halo built off of that, so what did the PS2 have? Jack squat you say?

Sorry I'll stop, I'm coming off confrontationally here. I really don't mean to knock the PS2 but I am seriously tired of listening to Sony constantly talk about the good old days. They're like that one uncle you have who claims he totally could've made it into the NFL had he not blown out his knee in the big game his senior year.

It means very VERY little, but it means something. Microsoft did take notice when designing their next system. Still, eh...it has gotten out of hand, i apologize for that.

I think it just widened the potential marketshare, building squarely on the foundations of the original PlayStation. By widening the market further, it made sure that Microsoft would have success with the Xbox and even paved the way for the Wii.. as horrifying a thought as that is.

I loved my PS2.. until my dad decided to mod chip it. Now it doesn't work properly. Oh well, I can still grab one.
