Am I to understand that writing "Coffee is hot" about two-hundred times is witty and intelligent? Also, writing something in such a way that someone with a half a brain can figure it out is a GOOD THING, it means I voice my opinion in enough of a clear and concise manner that it can be understood easily. Simple is a GOOD thing, ever heard of Occam's Razor?

Sorry I can't come up with highly cerebral posts like "coffee is hot X200"

Lol, you have to be the biggest hypocrite I have ever met.

One last thing, do you know what Narcissism actually means? If you did, you would realize that your assertion of knowing better than the entire country of the United States was TEXTBOOK Narcissism. I honestly can't see any instances of Narcissism in my posts, I simply asserted that I know a thing or two about law, and I believed the verdict to be justified, while you asserted that you know better than all of the Judges and Juries in the United States.

I don't claim to be a genius or better than everyone in Canada, do I? next time you call someone a name, just make sure it's not something that's better applied to yourself. FAIL.

EDIT: Don't even get me started on your "holier than thou" "good day" crap.
Still don't know it? Don't blame you. Its pretty hard to understand the simplicity of what the line is. Also Did i say everyone in the states? No Now your being a tool and spinning my words incorrectly. Same with the Coffee is Hot....i said it 100 times not 200. Counting is a fundamental part of child hood....One line. Thats all it is. One simple line. Continue to attack me if you must but until you figure out this simple line i will continue to think you should look else where for legal intelligence because you have apparently met your match from someone who has never taken any Law classes period. Also Narcissism is a Higher thought of ones self above others....I don't think myself above Americans. I think lowly of Idiots. And as you have shown they are the vocal ones. Your Population is 10 times ours and the loudest group is the stupidest. I actually think very lowly of myself so i doubt its Narcissism. Still waiting for that Simple line that you can't seem to understand. Good Day and Toodles. :)
I've met my match with someone who "coffee is hot"?

God you're an idiot, and I didn't count to 100 because I don't seek to waste my time on something inconsequential, it's a lesson you should learn.

It's impossible to argue with somebody so infuriatingly stupid that they think they are always right even when what they say makes no sense whatsoever, so go ahead and keep arguing, I'm just going to delete my "quoted" notifications as I get them from here on out, because you obviously just want attention, why else would you spam the way you did?

Lol, sure, I'm not intelligent, he says, as he spams one stupid and irrelevant line 100 times over, god, the irony is palpable.

I like your kind little ending remarks, they just show me that you don't want to talk law or be logical, you just want to piss off the people around you by acting smug. Go ahead, nobody's listening anymore. Freaking troll.

:)
Yay i got called Troll. First time out of how many posts. You have het to prove to me that you can figure out the one simple thing. The one thing that will shut me up.....either you find it out, admit i know more then you OR reply to this trying to make me angry which won't Work. I can call you stupid a million times over and still will get no where. But its okay. I forgive your Ignorance. :)

OT: Completely Ignoring this wanna be lawyer I don't See them Winning this and hope its thrown out of court. Sony has every Right to Remove and add Utilities as they use. Maybe the Judge won't know that though.
I am not reading your posts anymore, but you should take a look at what you quoted, it's edited now.

Ladies and gentlemen, I present DonnyP, the man who talks to himself.

This analogy would be more accurate if you were to say that you'd called Ford and asked them to install a Ferrari GUI/ECU. It might work, it might increase horsepower, it might not work, it might lessen horsepower. Fact is, Ford's gonna say No. Because, they want _their_ interface, in _their_ cars. But, ask an aftermarket specialist (George Hotz??), and they may be able to assist you in that endeavor. Until, of course, said specialist goes off the reservation and shoots his mouth off before getting to anything really useful.
Uh no, not really, Because this has nothing to do with asking ford anything.

You could install aftermarket parts (legally I may add) when you purchased the car. (Just as you could install another OS)

Now Ford says you can't, and will either cripple your car, or you do what they say.

The "Security hole/flaw/whatever" they are claiming has to be done in the "other OS". So it had no effect on game piracy or cheating games, since IT HAD TO BE DONE IN THE OTHER OS.

Sony lied. We all bought it, and they pulled a core feature. Which they aren't allowed to do.

It would be like this. Say you had two cars. They were pretty even in performance. But one had a spoiler. You liked the spoiler.

Then up the road, the manufacturer comes out and takes it off you car. You'd be pretty pissed, no?

I agree with danpascooch. If they really wanted to go after a security issue, they could've resolved it without removing the "Other OS" option.

Just another case of Sony removing a little more of your gaming rights, hoping that no one will pay attention. Anyone remember Sony's A-Track? Great device, as long as you used Sony's player (the ONLY player) that was compatible with A-Track songs.

It died and for good reason, Sony's just being megalomaniacs about the PS3 and it will eventually hurt them. They will eventually remove something in years to come that will make people stand up and say "the hell with this". They just never learn to share, or share right, everything has to be made by them or licensed by them.
I wouldn't say that. Someone said they could hack it through there and they were concerned about the security of their system. Even if it does seem unfair its fully within their rights. If anyone ever Read the EULA it says In future updates will remove or add utilities. If you agree to it to get the patch then done. But if you don't then you can't play online. Pretty straight forward when you think about it. This is like someone suing Microsoft for being banned from XBL for modding a console and saying it was only for backing up games.
I would. if people truly read the EULA all the way through and understood it, very little of any company's product would be sold. I stand by my statement, having been running Linux for more years now than PS3's been out, there was a way to fix it without removing the "Other OS" option. Just because the EULA makes it LEGALLY right, that doesn't make it MORALLY right.

It may not be Morally Right to you but the people who hack consoles to get free games are usually people of low morales. Not all but many are. Well at least in the fact that If i can get it for free why would i pay for it scheme.
You don't get it, you really don't. So I'll explain it easy for you:

You have a car, and it starts acting up, refusing to start and run. You take it into the shop to have it repaired, it's under warranty so there's no money to be paid out here. Turns out the wiring harness is bad to the radio, the fix? Remove the radio so that it no longer shorts out. Now you're out a radio, but the car still works, according to the contract you signed when you bought the car, the dealership can do whatever it wants to fix the problem.

And do really believe that removing the "Other OS" option is the ONLY way to hack the system? Are you really that ignorant?

I get it. Apparently i get it better then anyone. This isn't about whether what they did was Morally Right. If what they did was logically right. This isn't about any of that. It isn't about making it Hack proof again. It is about whether what they did was a legal move. And it was. I didn't use the Other OS option. Everyone i know who did stopped using it long ago and forgot it existed. So i have no stake in this case be it sony wins or loses. They remove the stereo from your car and your car runs. Problem solved. Unless they remove a key component that renders the vehicle immobile then you shouldn't get in a fuss. Get a New stereo installed by a technician if you don't know how. I don't think its the only way to hack the system but its the only publicly known method at this time. Prove to me it isn't and i will recant my words. You can use big Legal words if you like and get extremely technical but it all will continue to boil down to one Question. Was what they did legal?

3. SERVICES AND UPDATES

From time to time, SCE may provide updates, upgrades or services to your PS3? system to ensure it is functioning properly in accordance with SCE guidelines or provide you with new offerings. Some services may be provided automatically without notice when you are online, and others may be available to you through SCE's online network or authorized channels. Without limitation, services may include the provision of the latest update or download of new release that may include security patches, new technology or revised settings and features which may prevent access to unauthorized or pirated content, or use of unauthorized hardware or software in connection with the PS3? system. Additionally, you may not be able to view your own content if it includes or displays content that is protected by authentication technology. Some services may change your current settings, cause a loss of data or content, or cause some loss of functionality. It is recommended that you regularly back up any data on the hard disk that is of a type that can be backed up. Other services or content may be made available to you by third parties who may require you to accept their terms and conditions and privacy policy (?Third Party Agreement?). SCE may refer to or provide you with links to websites that third parties independently operate or maintain (?Linked Sites?). SCE and its affiliated companies do not control or direct Linked Sites, nor do SCE and its affiliated companies monitor, approve, endorse, warrant or sponsor any information, conclusions, recommendations, advertisement, products, services or content described on Linked Sites. You acknowledge and agree that SCE and its affiliated companies have no liability to you for the information on the Linked Sites. Your reliance on any such information is at your own risk, and you assume all responsibilities and consequences resulting from your reliance. Notwithstanding any provision of any terms and conditions, in the event of any conflict between this Agreement and the Third Party Agreement, this Agreement shall control as between you and SCE.

11. MAINTENANCE AND UPGRADES

From time to time, it may become necessary for SCEA to provide certain content to you to ensure that Sony Online Services and content offered through Sony Online Services, your PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system, the PSP® (PlayStation® Portable) system or other SCEA-authorized hardware is functioning properly in accordance with SCEA guidelines. Some content may be provided automatically without notice when you sign in. Such content may include automatic updates or upgrades which may change your current operating system, cause a loss of data or content or cause a loss of functionalities or utilities. Such upgrades or updates may be provided for system software for your PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system, the PSP® (PlayStation® Portable) system, or other SCEA-authorized hardware. Access or use to any system software is subject to terms and conditions of a separate end user license agreement found at http://www.us.playstation.com/termsofuse. You authorize SCEA to provide such content and agree that SCEA shall not be liable for any damages, loss of data or loss of functionalities arising from provision of such content or maintenance services. It is recommended that you regularly back up any archivable data located on the hard disk.

3 is the Console itself and the warranty of it. 11 is the use of the PSN and the TOS to use it. Both state in future updates they will remove or add features as they see fit. If the people don't like it they don't have to agree to it. But by doing so forfeit the ability to use the Network.

Again, you're fool if you think that's the only "hole" in the system, whatever. You really don't get it.

Of course this came from California. I never used the Other OS feature, you can't do squat with it, as anything and I mean ANYTHING that can run linux, runs linux better than the PS3 for normal productivity usage.
Not that this really helps my case, but I've heard you can use a ps3 with linux to do blu-ray movie dumps. So, if you don't have a blu ray drive on any other device, it could be helpful for making backups.

But yeah, Linux on ps3 is dreadfully slow because of how much sony prevented its users from doing on that OS in the first place. I converted my Ubuntu install to a Xubuntu install and that helped a lot, but not enough to make it worth using.

I'm upset over the update that removed it becuase of one simple fact: it just leaves your linux partition on the ps3's hard drive, but now it's not accessible in any form. I might have updated if it would have simply giving me my 10gbs back. But as it is, I have to do quite a but of work to get my 10gbs back. I have to back up all of my ps3 data to a fat32 compatible external hard drive, and then format the hard drive and restore it. None of this appeals to me. It was bad enough when I had to it the first time to upgrade to a 320gb hard drive.

Couldn't you just take the drive out of the PS3, toss it into an external enclosure and use partition magic to blow away the Linux partition? That should work also.... May not be the most convenient but at least you don't have to move any data around. Anyway, just a thought.
Have you ever seen a ps3 drive? There's no logical way to put that in an external enclosure because of its off slot inderface. Additionally, there's no guarantee that it's even conntected to the ps3 using a cable that my PC has. I'm pretty confident it uses some proprietary sony port. Also, the linux method is a softmod. You can still restart your PS3 and use it for gaming when you're not using it to browse the internet, or rip blu rays.

I've actually never used it to rip blu-rays and if I was going to rip them I would just buy a Blu Ray reader for PC, I'm pretty sure they've gone down to $100 if it's just a reader.

Still, the PS3 and the PSP are some of the few consoles to continually remove features as their lifespan continues. With the Ps3, it's backward compatibility and OtherOS support. With the PSP it's the PSPgo's lack of UMD drive.
I really want Sony to succeed as a company, and a lawsuit does hurt them. I'd much rather them restore OtherOS functionality to their official firmware then see the get fined out the ass for a very stupid and misguided mistake.

Tis just a lawyer seeing a chance to sue a big company and make a pretty penny. Its just like those lawyers that put up advertisements asking if you have been injured by anything. Ambulance chasers seeking to get their wallets filled, nothing more.

I hope Sony wins.

Yeah, I think they've got Sony on this. But at the same time I think it's pretty much bull.

Firstly, yes, I replaced my original 60g drive with a 320g quite awhile ago. Secondly, have you actually done any research on it? It's a SATA drive, ergo a SATA cable would most likely be required. I can't imagine they'd be using a proprietary interface on the PS3, considering you can buy any 2.5" laptop drive and throw it in there. You follow?

Beyond that, the rest of your post was meaningless to me. I have the original 60g, so BC is not my problem. And if I want Linux, I'll create a partition on my gaming rig.

EDIT: Just in case you don't follow, the point I was making is that regardless of whether Sony uses a proprietary connection or not, it'll still connect to a SATA cable. If you already have a PC with multiple drives installed, you should be able to temporarily mount it to your desktop and do whatever you want with the drive. Or.....plug it into an external SATA enclosure and you have the same results. Either way, I'm almost positive I've seen specific instructions on how to do just that on Sony's PS3 forums.
My apologies. I thought you were referring to taking out the Blu Ray drive. That is the device that would be difficult to put in an enclosure.
