I am hoping that it gets marked up enough to come out where it does what the Cool Kid is advocating it does.LGC Pominator said:If that is the case then thanks for bringing it to our attention, this is good news!Exile714 said:I wish I could properly explain how the US Congress works to The Escapist community. How many of you actually know what markup is? I can tell you that markup is NOT where proponents of this bill want it to go. I can tell you that its chances of revival in this congressional term are slim and that this is a huge setback.
But you won't believe me.
Because the internet is for OMG!, not intelligent conversation.
As someone who works in legislative law, SOPA and PIPA (by proxy) are dead. Of course, anything can rear its head again, but for now it is over. Good job. You people made my work SOOOOOOOOO much easier.
Thanks.
The confidence of the guy who is responsible for the bill is a little offputting, so I would like to get a better understanding of this before I ask pinkie pie to roll out the party cannon.
Deffinatly not, it just make me want to steal american things more....and i think i will.Andy Chalk said:
I also find his reference to "foreign thieves" to be deeply offensive, although it's hardly the first time SOPA proponents have played the "dirty foreigner" card - but being one myself, I suppose I may be a little over-sensitive to such things.
Nah, Americans do it too. But our legal system had no effective way of dealing with people outside the US before(unless, apparently, you live in the UK). Now we have a simple solution. No internet means no online piracy. Elegant in its simplicity. Obviously, I'm a fan.The Artificially Prolonged said:Damn stubborn politicians, just let SOPA die.
So now its only us foreign people that pirate then is it?"To enact legislation that protects consumers, businesses and jobs from foreign thieves who steal America's intellectual property, we will continue to bring together industry representatives and Members to find ways to combat online piracy,"
It is. The Spanish in Red vs Blue is purposely extremely bad.Grouchy Imp said:I always thought Madre de Dios meant Mother of God. Just saying'.AstylahAthrys said:...

Well seeing as most of the money is lost in foreign markets (that foreign people buy from), then the only obvious legal recourse is to keep americans from reaching all those chinese/taiwanese/canadian/british/antarctic sites that we can't usually read the language of anyway (rememeber these are americans we're talking about.)RedEyesBlackGamer said:He is a Republican. Ah. I've never really got the humour of RvB. Some of my friends love it, but I've never been a fan. Just not my kind of humour I guess. Well, time for some of my humour to a) balance this thread out and b) shoehorn in a British classic! (yes, shameless 80's plug):AstylahAthrys said:It is. a Month is not enough time to rewrite the entire system known as American Copyright Law. This guy is a blind moron who doesnt understand that the world runs on porn and illicitly gained entertainments, both of which easily fall withing the realm of digital copyright infringement.RedEyesBlackGamer said:SOPA will pass and then be repealed after the consequences are fully realized. Well I checked on anonops IRC and aparently there is anotherround of #OP payback so perhaps that is something.IamLEAM1983 said:So, what now? What's the game plan, past Sillicon Valley companies blacking out in protest?
About Tor... I'm aware that it's pretty much the most privacy-friendly browser out there at the moment, but is there a way to use it without sacrificing YouTube or Channel Awesome? It seems to be a pretty bare-bones set of tools *precisely* because that simplicity enforces security, but I'd like to know I've still got a smidge more flexibility.ivansnick said:Well I checked on anonops IRC and aparently there is anotherround of #OP payback so perhaps that is something.IamLEAM1983 said:So, what now? Yet other then that all there really is to do is to tell EVERYONE about the threat of these bills and get them to write to the United States government. (and then While they're at it get them to install TOR and run as a node)
