Far Cry 2.
After the first mission the writers started to ignore the main objective. Halfway through the game I forgot why the protagonist is in Africa. Wasn't I supposed to assassinate some guy? Why am I doing missions for the factions? Why am I an errand boy for all these mercenaries? Why am I playing this game?
The ending is a major clusterfuck.
You're supposed to choose who to kill but the characters are so poorly developed that it's hard to remember who works for who. In the end, your choice doesn't matter because it doesn't affect the ending in any way.
The "twist" is the dumbest thing ever.

Why couldn't my buddies just ask for the damned diamonds, I wanted to get out of that country anyway. But no, let's kill our friend for no apparent reason because HERP DERP WE NEED A TWIST.

This thread has hit the 5th page without mentioning Hard Boiled? And Stranglehold was already mentioned? What?
OK, Hard Boiled actually did have a plot, but it was just an excuse to set up the second half of the movie, which is just blazing action through and through.

.That said, it isn't really plot, but a nifty construct. Most of the game is like 'uh, go here and kill that thing so you can open something else up so you can get that other thing.'
Not sure why people argue this one. All I can think of is that there is some weird discrepancy in definition of 'plot'. If the character himself must be doing actions for them to count towards the plot, I guess Bioshock 2 has a bit more there. But if the story as it unfolds to the player counts, then Bioshock is amazing. I mean, a book has plot even if it isn't autobiographical right?
I'd like to throw Starcraft 2 into the mix here (wings of liberty).
It may not be the most nonexistent, but it was definitely one of the hardest to connect with that really TRIED to connect with me.
The dialogue is painful, the events don't make that much sense, and the scale is constantly bizarre and off. You rescue a PLANET FULL Of colonists, and then deposit them somewhere else, where they establish a new settlement, only to have to rescue them again? 1) How long did this take to happen? 2) NO ONE saw this coming???
Further more, since you can do missions in odd orders, you'll get crazy intro/outro dialogue. Tychus and Raynor best of friends! And then Tychus suddenly turns on you calling you selfish and lazy... what...?
At least it had humor in it.
