Yeah well it's not the Moon Warcraft 3 legend as that guy is much older and there would've been more buzz anyways.

Regarding his death, well there certainly where a lot of other circumstances that caused his breakdown, who knows. Perhaps he was overall completely burned out duo to prior gaming sessions or other reasons.

Hmm, I don't think it was 12 hours of gaming that caused it. I think he was set to fall over anyway..

My record for this kind of thing was 57 hours straight (WoW, Ahn-Quiraj opening) and that didn't kill me. He should have been able to do that without eating or drinking for at least two days before collapsing, on average.

These stories always irk me because of the double standard the media plays up, idiots get themselves killed all the time, drunk drivers, morons playing on train tracks, etc. We still have booze, cars, trains, sports, and all manner of other things the vast vast majority of people can enjoy safely

I've played longer than 12 hours, there's nothing that sitting perfectly still for 12 hours will do to you healthwise as long as it's not regular. He wouldn't have been malnourished, low on water, sleep deprived or suffering organ failure.

The quickest thing to kill you is lack of water and that takes 2-4 days.
I know that on my flight to Japan standing up and walking around was mandatory every 5-6 hours because if you sit still for too long you can develop blood clots, which might possibly, after being shaken take some time(a few hours) to lodge into a vital part of your body, such as your brain. It can kill you.

Assuming he was well nourished, fed, watered, rested etc. before his binge, sure. There's far too little information about his habits beforehand (information that is unlikely to ever come to light) to draw any realy conclusions.

Nice to see people mocking the dead kid and bragging about how they could go for longer. How many of you guys were screaming for blood over the "Guy steals consoles from sick kids" and "Guy steals Gameboy from dead kid" stories, hmm?

I dont see death from single 12 hour Session possible. Had to have been other reasons, most likely though multiple 12 hour or plus sessions over a period of time. But he is Korean, and in relation to videogames, they're like Meth users, so this shouldnt be to big of surprise.

Oh god, and now I'm going to hear everywhere, that "Videogames kill".
Please, oh please, not this again.

Anyway, it's a tragedy nonetheless that such young person died. And that's probably not just because he was playing for 12 hours (my bet it was starcraft or warcraft 3).

Thanks for giving us a bad rep kid. Now I wonder what his parents are going to say, gee that'll be a surprise...

That said, I'm curious about the details, his usual habits, any illnesses. 12 Hours is indeed not very long. Not that the fear-mongering mob will pay any attention to those.

Considering Desert Bus for Hope's "participants" all did 24 hours shifts (or, in the case of James, nearly two 24 hour shifts) and have suffered no long term ill affects (as far as I know), I'm not going to be blaming the fact that he played 12 straight hours for his death, but rather some underlying condition we don't know about.

Exactly. 12 hours? That's WEAK.

Yup. 12 hours is nothing. The guys on his server are probably still playing, wondering why the fuck he's AFK.
Yeah. I'm guessing that's 12 hours... but with like 1 hour of sleep beforehand and before that a good 40 hour session without food or water or toilet breaks or something. But seriously what are the odds of this being game related, practically none. Hell he's in Korea so surely like 90% of people die while gaming just because they spend 90% of their time gaming.

The title of this article is sort of misleading, and it's leading to some annoying comments here.

As the article points out, it's unclear (even unlikely?) if the gaming binge directly caused his death.
How is the title misleading at all? Kid died after twelve hour gaming binge. Says that in title. Kid collapsed while playing (insert Star Craft) for twelve hours straight. No one is saying the zerg is what did him in.

20 hours here, I only stopped long enough to eat and use the bathroom, Iwsn't even tired at the end, I did hear the Final Fantasy overworld theme whenever I closed my eyes though.
