Must...resist...Warhammer 40K...quote...can't...

FOR THE EMPEROR!!!!

I will defiantly be getting this. I personally never found anything appealing about Gears of War. It was just a gritty-brown shooter with a bunch of bland macho guys wearing power armour with radio speakers carrying around portable chest high walls because they're scared of bullets.

Fuck cover, I AM A GOD DAMN SPACE MARINES.
ALWAYS ANGRY, ALL THE TIME.

COVER IS FOR PUSSIES, you hear that Gears?

So long as it still has the co-op aspect, so long as my friend can drop in with an assault jump and fuck shit up with a thunder hammer while I cover him with a heavy bolter, this game will be the best thing to come out of this generation.
Ever.

Shouldn't it be Gears getting compared to Warhammer? They sure as shit didn't invent burly men fucking up insectoid things. Or chainsaw attachments.
Yep Warhammer seems to just get there 1st with most things really.

Though I will still be getting this game regardless, been looking forward to it for a while.
But they never get credit when someone rips off the idea, makes off like a bandit, and thousands of knuckle dragging morons deny all evidence that Games workshop beat them to it.
It is such a shame, I mean most of Blizzards stuff is essentially Warhammer, but with little tweaks here and there.

GOW? are you MAD? Warhammer 40k came first B4 starship trooper, B4 halo, B4 GOW, B4 Terminator, B4 Xenomorph, B4 all modern/nextgen Heavy armor space solders, Even B4 freaking Starcraft!(yeh, people need to know, Starcraft is a Warhammer rip off that did a piss poor job, they don't even have space ORCS!) Don't compare the glorious Warhammer40K to some thing as unworthy as a "space marine (Warhammer40k space marine by the way) rip off", possibly only good because it's got nice cover based mechanics 3rd person shooter with awesome game engine, and lets not forget the THICK/EPIC LONG storyline, and heritage of Warhammer40K, compares to the "random, we just create plot/story/history as we go along Gears Of War...Common! "Bring out the HAMMER OF DAWN!~" What? Dawn of war? War Hammer40K? it's CLEARLY a REFERENCING Warhammer40K Dawn Of War! Either that, or the Dev can't think of a cool name, but their mind at the time are filled with Warhammer40K stuff!~ ... space marine would be TOTALLY opposite from that... see... GOW have heavy emphasis on "shooting" and melee is only icing, but in Warhammer40k, guns are prerequisite, but melee, is the "Big Game", because when it comes to the "captain classes" and above, melee IS the game, so i expect the game to have TONS/robust of melee combat system... thus become something COMPLETELY different from old-GoW...

On the note of Tau being Chineese the name Tau probably is a reference to tao, as in taoism. According to wikipedia tao means path or way, which makes sense considering their caste system. I'm not sure how "for the greater good" fits or doesn't fit in with the taoist philosophy though.

Chainsaw bayonets? *yawn*

Power Fists that can Shoryuken a tank? Halberds that can cleave a Dreadnought in twain? A hollow tube that, when injected into the chest cavity of a man a wire springs forth, uncoils, then rotorblades his insides into a mush? Fuck yeah!

Really, Relic shouldn't be worried because they're working on bringing the original Space Marine to life, baby. And some people should be ashamed of using the term "Space Marine" so lightly in describing a generic sci-fi action hero; Gears of War cannot come close to matching the unbridled, beautiful insanity that is the 40K universe.

However, I would have preferred a DMC-style character action game featuring a Harelquin. Seriously, even the Space Wolves are dull and boring compared to space elf ninja killer clowns who, despite how that description makes them sound like great villains, are as good as good gets in the grim darkness of the 41st Millennium.
Not true. Starship troopers (the book) created the original space marine (highly trained soldier in power armor that fights aliens) almost 30 years before 40k started up.

Don't get me wrong, I love Warhammer 40k and play Space Marines, but they didn't do it first anymore than Starcraft, Halo, or Gears of War did. That said, while I am looking forward to the game, Relic is going to need more than just the setting to stand apart from other third person shooters.

Exactly. Warhammer is a lot older than most people think it is.
Over 30 years now I believe, probably wrong. Forgot a lot about the table top since i stopped playing it a few years back.

I am really looking forward to the Space Marine game if they can stay away from various shades of gray and brown unlike Gears. One of Warhammer's biggest strengths is its ability to create a gory, terrifying universe that does not consist solely of gunmetal gray and dirt brown. The tabletop game shows how diverse the color pallet is and Relic's Dawn of War series did a great job of demonstrating it as well.

A space marine can come in red, blue, green, or even purple. A space marine can be PURPLE and still come off as a bad-ass.

While a lot of those games took some lore from it, Starcraft took it's stuff from starship troopers, look at the similarity to those bugs in starcraft to starship troopers, which was also used by Warhammer 40k.

um... because all of the above, are all rip off of Warhammer40K! I meant to say "Regardless what people like to say... Warhammer40K is the original, and maybe the game came out after the other games, and GoW started/mastered the whole cover base shooter game type, warhammer40K will NOT be a clone of it, because it have a different emphasis on combat; it's more melee, more like a medieval fantasy fighting accompanied with guns as a combo adaptation, than a star war shooting with a mounted chainsaw bayonet (like GoW was).

except few of their target audience knows this. It's what most target audience is aware of that counts.

My thoughts exactly.
When I first saw Gears, I thought they were ripping off 40K. Not that it's that hard. They've been around for a while and have covered a lot of archetypes.

Relic makes the best Warhammer 40k games I've played, so hopefully they'll pull it off again this time.
