Halo Reach, Section 8, pretty sure there are others.spectrenihlus said:Name all the space marine FPS that came out in the last year.ImprovizoR said:Space Marines? What an original idea. How come no one else thought of it before. Oh wait...
And that's it. There really aren't that many Halo is just so big it makes it look like an overflooded genre.cainx10a said:Halo Reach, Section 8, pretty sure there are others.spectrenihlus said:Name all the space marine FPS that came out in the last year.ImprovizoR said:Space Marines? If you're interested in that much location variation, have you considered Assassins's Creed and it's sequel yet? They both tackle time periods almost completely untouched by other games.qbanknight said:BioShock is that rare game that bucks the status quo when it comes to video game development. It had an awesome story with incredibly solid and unique gameplay. While I wasn't crazy over the sequel (since the publisher just pretty much hired somebody to copy/paste the original), I am VERY excited for BioShock Infinite since it's being made by the guys who actually worked on the original and it's taking us to a brand new world.JaymesFogarty said:I know what you mean; but the market oversaturation is understandable. FPS's are brilliant, dynamic games, that can innovate just as much if not more than any other genre. Larger developments, however, require a lot of return, and it's a lot easier to simply spam the same old games knowing they'd sell, then spend millions on something great that no one would buy. Have you tried Bioshock yet? That's definitely a game that breaks the formula.qbanknight said:Nah I was referring to the big companies with games that sport the latest tech. To me only Valve and Rockstar are the BIGGEST names that push the envelope when it comes to making lengthy, meaty games with great visuals and awesome gameplay to boot alongside a great story. Indies are all we have to come up with some new and clever gameplay ideas so those guys won't go anywhere. ESPECIALLY on the PC. But unfortunately, my favorite genre is FPS. And now it's inundated with samey Call of Duty military shooters or samey Halo-esque space marine soldiers. Honestly, that's why I'm looking forward to Duke Nukem Forever = a misogynistic action hero killing waves of perverted aliens...that's practically Shakespeare compared to this CoD/Halo shitJaymesFogarty said:Luckily, we've still got valve, and a few indie developers left! But for how long, I wonder...qbanknight said:So you're making fucking Halo now? Brilliant, for a second there I thought the game's industry had run out of ideas COMPLETELY
And I do get that shooters need to see a return so they can't take too many risks. But come on, the formula of shoot, aim, reload, and cover is set in solid stone. You can take that formula and take into a brand new locale that ISN'T space, WW2, or modern war. I'm not even asking for something crazy like BioShock. But I would like to see FPS go to areas that people have barely done well before like fantasy, old west (Call of Juarez was whatever), or hell even a cops and robbers game. Time travelling is another good idea, but I'm still waiting on a sequel to TimeSplitters.
Wow, Price looks really young for a 80something year old WW2 veteran.Logan Westbrook said:Maybe even your first glimpse of Captain Price's magnificent moustache in the very first Call of Duty.
No. This is not acceptable. If you want to make a space marine game, jump on the Halo bandwagon, or help with Starcraft. Don't call it Call of Duty.Logan Westbrook said:Space Marines Rumored for Next Call of Duty
He'll then proceed to charge $100 and make it subscription based so he can spend money on his own space marine suit. Or just add it to the money pyramid hes trying to build.Blind Sight said:I'm sure Kotick will say something about how this new game will 'show great respect for our future space marines' or some other PR nonsense.
Haha, you're pretty much knocking off every game I've played . I am very much love traveling to new locations in games. I suppose I'm a big fan of escapism, and there's really no better way of doing that videogames, film, and books. Stories that have "realism" to it don't excite me as something I'm unfamiliar with. Which is why I was so attracted to the Assassin Creed games, BioShock, Brutal Legend (despite its strategy flaws), and the Fallout gamesJaymesFogarty said:If you're interested in that much location variation, have you considered Assassins's Creed and it's sequel yet?
