Strength and agility are completely different things mate. So adding armour makes them tougher, but heavier. So less agile. Regardless of the extra strength, the Chief is still much more agile.

The Black Carapace (from SM power armour) interfaces the armour itself to the Marine's nerves, making it responsive as hell, i.e. anything the Marine can do without armour, he can do with and more. But his strength doesn't go up. Though I'm fairly sure Mjolnir armour does something more or less the same, except that its protective toughness isn't as great.

Ok, I concede. I'm not really up to scratch on my 40k knowledge.

Even so, Master Chief would have more flexibility and dexterity with Mjolnir armor as opposed to Space Marine Terminator armor. That has to count for something.
I actually can't decide now. Let's just hope when worst comes to worst and after the entire galaxy is at stake, Spartans and Space Marines can work together... maybe

He may have more flexibility, but Terminator armor lets them quite literally punch THROUGH a tank. And demolish buildings with their bare hands. And shrug off all but the most powerful of weapons. Yeah, it's astartes beyond a doubt. Like, there's no contest whatsoever.

Remeber spartans are much faster then the Astartes, and regularly beat heavily armoured aliens with super strength to death with there bare hands. Space marines are very tough and the older ones would be much larger then a spartan but in a fight between a space marine that has the same combat experience as a spartan (about 30ish years) i'd probably give it to the sspartan just because they could probably put a pistol round through an astarteses visor from 300 yards, or spring from cover and dice him up with a energy sword before he knows what the fuck.

Marine Mk7 Aquila power armor has Armor 10. With the marine's toughness bonus. Halo's assault rifle gonna do jack.
Give MC Rocket Launcher with armor piercing missiles he might have a chance. Otherwise no chance at all


But this is way to different universe to be compared to.

In Halo destroying the whole planet is serious business.

Meh, don't sweat it... it's a whole case of 'my nerd-dom's better than your nerd-dom', and seeing as I like WH40K more than Halo, guess how I'm going to decide?!

However, I wonder how good a high-ranking Spartan would do in a bust-up, 'cos we see Astartes of all ranks in the mythos, and the Chapter Masters' combat ability can be just plain stooooooopid (though having done nothing except the games, can't say much of Halo).

Space marines are super soldiers who's genetic code contains part of the God Emperor of Mankind's DNA. In the 40k novels it is not uncommon for a single squad of space marines to take on hundreds to thousands of soldiers (though there ain't so over powered in the actual table top game). A bolt pistol would rip Chiefs head clean off and if his shield actauly worked against the bolter the plasma gun would obliterate him.

Wrong. Adeptus Astartes is the "official" name of what people colloquially refer to as Space Marines. It's exactly the same thing. What you're confusing is the specialist branches. Chaplain, Librarian and Apothecary are specialist branches of the Astartes. They're still Adeptus Astartes. They're still Space Marines. They're still angels of death. Just specialize in different areas.

Scout and Devastator refer to squad types. Different squads of space marines. Still Adeptus Astartes/Space Marines.

Terminator refer to elite space marines that earn the right to use the most elite armor available in the Warhammer 40k world: Terminator Armor. Still Space Marines.

Force Commander is the "name" given to the main character of Dawn of War II. His actual rank is Captain. Also a Space Marine/Astartes.

A Primarch isn't an Adeptus Astartes. It's a Primarch. It's a completely different thing entirely. Primarchs are basically demigods. They're far above even the most elite of Astartes. The only force in the Imperium that even comes remotely close to the power of a Primarch is the Adeptus Custodes, personal guard of the emperor's golden throne.

Exactly that's what I meant; Terminators, Devastators, Scouts etc are all part of the Adeptus Astartes. The OP didn't mention which, he just said "astartes".

I was just joking and at the same time proving a point that no matter what type of unit it is it will still win, whether scout or terminator.

Are we talking the balanced 40k Table Top model Space Marine? Or the admittedly awesome yet ridiculously overpowered Space Marines of the Warhammer 40k fluff which makes them (and pretty much every unit except Imperial Guardsmen) living gods amongst men?

If it's the balanced option, in the parameters you specified the Space Marine would win without question in a firefight, a normal assault rifle is a flash light compared to a bolter. In hand to hand however I think they'd be on even footing. I reckon an energy blade could pierce a Marines armour and like wise a chain sword could gut a Spartan. The Spartan could probably be more effective at range if they were allowed to bring some of their heavier weapons to bear, like the Spartan Laser, Rocket Launcher etc.

If it's according to the fluff one Space Marine could single handedly defeat the Spartans, UNSC, Covenant and Flood while taking time out to commit a one man exterminatus on all the planets he passes and finish by punching out Cthullu.

space marines are also bio engineered, but assuming you mean MASTERCHEIF and not a random spartan he would either fire the pistol into the eyesocket of the space marine armour if he misses run in with the energy sword and cut him up like sushi.

I like how you assume a Space Marine would just sit there. The Astartes are both faster and stronger than a Spartan, or Masterchief for that matter. Masterchief's pistol wouldn't even phase an Astartes. The trade off would be an the equivalent of an armor piercing grenade. Bye bye half of masterchief.

Not necessarily. Space Marines can fight anywhere from individual squads of 2/6 to entire armies of hundreds or thousands. They're used to fighting much stronger foes in numerical disadvantage.

you are thinking of terminator armour. even ork weapons can kill space marines in the games.

Ork weapons, however, are massive. Spartan's Assault Rifle would barely scratch power armor. Terminator armor would be downright impenetrable to anything from the Halo universe.

I'm gona say its a draw, just because of the fact that spartans are atleast about as strong as a space marine (about as strong as a silverback gorrila)

and with their armour the spartans are going to be way fucking faster then the space marines, and since the have there energy sword it may not even be a fair fight.

Well, if the Spartans get the Chief, it's only fair the Astartes get a named guy too.

Introducing: Lord Kaldor Draigo, Supreme Grand Master of the Grey Knights.

This guy was promoted after his predecessor was killed by Mortarion, a daemon Primarch (basically one of the most powerful daemons that exist, last time one was defeated it took about 100 Grey Knights). His first act of office was to track Mortarion down and carve his predecessors name into his heart. On his own.
Then he got cursed and was trapped in the Warp, Warhammers equivalent of Hell. While there, he:
-Murdered Slaanesh 6 favourite concubines. With his bare hands.
-Killed a Bloodthirster of Khorne and beat the daemon's axe into a new sword for himself, still with his bare hands.
-Burned down the Garden of Nurgle.
-Punched Tzeentch' Inevitable City into rubble, burying one of Tzeentch' most powerful daemons in the process.

He basically pissed off all four gods who rule the Warp. And he's still alive.
By now, the few daemons who do not just flee in terror at his approach are considered crazy and suicidal by the rest. He is not so much trapped in hell..it's more that hell is trapped in with him.

So, Master Chief? Yeah, glhf with that.

Most space marines have to have way more than 30 years comabat experiance to even got intiated. Otherwise they stay a power armour less neophyte (for some chapters) or scout(excpet space wolves were socuts are also vetrans)

Also a pistol round from the spartans standard pistol wouldn't in most cases penertrate the visor; as it is part of power armour and allows the wearer to move fast, provied medical care and also has an onboard targeting system.

I think they've finally out-bad-assed themselves. The frigging Emperor himself wasn't as strong as that.
