I found the Spyro games to be cartoonishly fun, inventive, and pretty solid over all.

I don't think anyone should hold their breath for a revival, though. I'm sure that wouldn't go well.

I saw a trailer for Spyro 1 on TV when it first came out.

That is what cured me of a case of Nintendo-fanboyism that had clouded my mind since the day I'd aquired my beloved SNES, nearly a decade before. (With some help from the clunky, oversized turd of a controller that came with the Nintendo 64 I once rented from my local video store.)

I eventually bought a PS1, just in time to play Spyro 2. I have never regretted it - especially after I noticed an interesting difference between the advertisements for the two consoles of the day: Your average PS1-related commercial would announce some new game, which inevitably LOOKED awesome (and usually was), while any N64 commercials would usually just boast that the console was now available in some new, fancy color!

The Spyro games, it turned out, were just the tip of the iceberg. I spent countless hours playing Crash Bandicoot 3 and MediEvil, and Final Fantasy VII introduced me to the glorious world of JRPGs. But still I must say, my single happiest moment of the entire PS1 era was the day I heard a rumor that Spyro 3 was coming out.

Yeah. The Spyro games changed my gaming life for the better. If it hadn't been for Spyro, I would probably have bought a N64 despite its flaws. (Fanboy, remember? I might never have bought a single non-Nintendo console to this day.) I've had a lot of fun on the PS1, and later on the PS2 and PS3, but the Spyro trilogy remains a highlight.

I still play them sometimes.

I loved it, was one of my favorite games. Didn't they recently make a decent one? A more serious, aimed towards the people who played the first three but are now old? I remember seeing something like that on the wall... Never got to playing it but it looked decent unlike this "new design" they got going.

The original 3 were the only ones. (And if anyone tries to correct me you are wrong and should be punished!) I've played all 3 about 10 times each. I've even got my grandad hooked on them. The demo of 2 was my first ever game.

*goes into a coma of nostalgia*

I only played Spyro the Dragon and Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage, but from what I understand those two games are the highlights of the series. I have very fond memories of the time I spent trying to 100% the first game, and then actually fulfilling 100%-ing the second.

It was a lot of fun, and I would like to try some of the newer games.

The ones on the PS2? The storylines with Cynder and all that?

They sound like fun. They can't be that bad...

Spyro 2 was the first game I ever played, and the series shares the honour with the Crash Bandicoot games as being the Super Mario Bros of my generation. I'd be the first to admit that most of the new games for both series' have been pretty lackluster, but when compared to decline of say, the Sonic games, I'd say they've come out of it alright.

My favourite was definately Spyro 3. Had the most refined gameplay of the series and the four main sidekicks and boss monsters still stick out in my mind as being really inventive and fun to play as/fight.

Spyro was my first ever game. Loved the original 3 and there were some good games among the spyros released for ps2, I have very fond memories of one called A Heroes Tale.
But all the recent games have been a string of disappointments. After seeing the artwork for the upcoming game I fear it may be the final nail in spyros coffin :(

The first Spyro game was great, but I have to say not quite as good as the big Nintendo platformers. Spyro had bigger levels, but most of it felt like empty space. Like they made it big just because they had the storage space, but didn't really do anything with it.

Spyro was my first ever game

I was born in 1992, and only came to gaming when i was 7 or so.
and what an introduction to gaming it turned out to be
(100% completion on spyro 1, 2, 3 and enter the dragonfly)
the newest versions are a kick in the franchises teeth though
and so was enter the dragonfly arguably

So, my fellows escapees, in the late 90's, whilst I was but an apple-cheeked youngster I bought a PS1. Along with it I got a game called Spyro the Dragon. 'Twas but a simple platformer, but oh so many hours I've spent playing that game. I tought it was an underrated star.

But now, my fellow men, I ask you: Have you played it, liked it or even heard of it?

TLDR; Spyro the Dragon, opinions?
I love the Insomniac games. I often daydream of kidnapping them and forcing them to make Spyro the Dragon 4: GOD HELP US HE'S GOT A FUCKING CHAINSAW.

Spyro the Dragon 3 was my first ever game (along with Crash Team Racing) and it remains my favourite game ever. I'm buying Portal 2 next week though, so we'll see how that shifts.

This. I miss those innocent epic days so much.

The first Spyro the dragon is practically what got me into video games. Too bad they got rid of most of the things (in my opinion) that made the game fun. I listen to there music for the pure nostalgia.

Oh my god Spyro, I loved those games, they were some of my best gaming childhood memories :) I mean in Spyro 3 you could skateboard. With rockets. Just picture that: a dragon on a rocket skateboard. I don't know about you, but that sounds like the definition of cool to me :p then they had to ruin it. I tried, TRIED to like the crappy next gen ones, even when they started bringing in shitty new characters, but god dammit, Spyro was butchered. So sad.

Spyro and Crash Bandicoot were the foundations to my childhood (that and Star Wars). Although, once both those titles reached the PS2 they rapidly went downhill.
