Fucking aye, I'd wish they'd make the damn game so I could stop hearing people ***** about how much they want it.

I've never played it, but I can't imagine it was good enough to warrant a remake. Fucking aye, Metal Gear Solid got a remake too and I still prefer the orignal, dated graphics and all.

i dont get this at all. FF VII was great when it was released, but i replayed it recently, and its just terrible now. the game mechanics, the gameplay itself, and other things. they would have to basically revamp the whole game, and the people who want the remake would say they soiled the experience. take off the nostalgia glasses, people.

I like how they said that new FFs take precedence over VII, after the last ...what 4-5 FF games released recently I'm sure that's working out great for them.

good, I know so many people have their nostalgia glasses on when in comes to FF7 but honestly, the game is not that good. Go back and play it right now and I guarantee those glasses will be shattered.

I know they probably don't want to deal with it anymore... but people probably will still keep asking for it...

Square, you can't use that excuse. Remember the FFIV remake with shiny, new, amazing graphics? You've done it before. FFIV was up there with all the old-school, beloved FF classins. Yet, we still got a bunch of numerical FFs after that. What about all the other games being re-released for the PSN and GBA and DS?

Anyway, Square just needs to go back and do an amazing FF game again. I don't know what happened to them. Everything was going fine up until FFX...then it started going downhill from there. I liked FFXII, but let's be honest: It's not like the others. And as much as I wanna like FFXIII, I can't bring myself to play it more than an hour or so every six months. So yeah, Square. Just do an amazing, mind blowing FF game and all will be forgiven. it can't be that hard; you've done it before plenty of times before. Just stop trying to be innovative and cool and original. That's fine and all but the quality of the games overall pays for it. So no, just stop.

Finally, not every single FF fan out there loves FFVII. It wouldn't be a death sentence. FFVII is at the bottom of my favorite FF games. It would sell like hot pancakes, I'll give you that much. But once they own it and play it, they'd be ready to move on. Whatever money you get from FFVII Remake can be used to make the next mind blowing FF game (Or KH. Just sayin').
True fans of the FF games overall, and not just FFVII, wouldn't be as stupid as to say "Welp! I got my FFVII! See you in hell now, Square-Enix!". Konami has done it with Metal Gear, Capcom has done it with Devil May Cry...believe me, you would survive. it's not like it's gonna trigger the apocalypse or something.

No...I, too, understand your pain. I have to suffer those incriminating stares whenever I proclaim my love for that game. But it is all worth it.
But seriously, that game was so much better. It has plenty of room for a sequel and a prequel. But nooooooo! Dumb, old, FFVII is better or something.

Never tried 12 that any better?
Eh...the story is not that original although the color palette and the characters kinda draw you in. It was originally gonna be released as a MMO and you can kinda tell by the gameplay and enemy battles and all. It's alright, I guess.

If you want to be cool Release Final Fantasy Collection which would include 1-12.
As much as I would love that, it would probably be worth around 200 bucks or more. Just look at the Street Fighter Anniversary collection, worth $125 with less than 12 games and a bunch of goodies to make it worth your while. I'd buy it...but they'd need to make a profit for sure.

Honestly i liked 13-2. Every thing u did had a story and u started to care for sarah. And the others and that is the same kind thing that made 7 so grate. This is the first game that has had the potential to mach 7. If that can stick with it in the next one thay can out do 7whatthat happened some was thay where so concerned about a bout not making another 7 gest with different.names. that thay never put in some ove the things that had made the game so good. Most if the newer storys push to much and thay dont let u explore in 12the that dident give u any side storys to explore when u get bord. In 13itthe had a good story but all u did was combat it got anoing.13-2 fixed alote of these problems

So they state they aren't making FFVII again...because it would make everything else they do look terrible? Well, given the current track record set with XIII and XIII-2, I would be inclined to agree, but XII was superb. So it's not that all recent Final Fantasy games suck, just the last two.

Franchise, not game. He's saying if they were to remake FF7 now, there wouldn't be interest/funding to continue making new FF games afterward, either because it wouldn't return sufficient funding for what the project would cost or because people would see the FF7 remake and compare it to the newer games and decide new FF games will always be worse than FF7 was so why bother buying any new ones, or a number of other possible reasons.

He's saying it would be bad for the series to do this, not bad for that specific game.
Or they'll replay it and realize with it's convoluted plot, disappointing ending, straight forward and dated combat system that it might have been rose tinted glasses that made them want a remake. That said I always dug FFVIII the most of the series... a remake of that with the 3rd act of the game retweaked would be fun and Seifer not wearing his pants up to his chest. >_>

I actually thought the ending of FF7 was okay, and the beginning is pretty good - all the stuff before you get out of Midgar.

It's everything between those two points that just bores the hell out of me. There are times when I wonder if FF7 might have been a better game if the plot had been structured to just build up to that confrontation in Shinra tower. Maybe they'd have had to hit more reactors to extend that story a ways, but I dunno, I thought that was sort of the peak of that particular game's story. After that it spins out into the whole Sephiroth vs. Ancients thing and...eh. I was more interested in the environmental activist mercenaries and their war against the ebil corporation.

As an aside, in case anyone is confused about my position, I wouldn't pick up an FF7 remake if one came out. Been there, done that, spent waaaay too much time just farming Source items for the hell of it and killing the WEAPONS. I literally could not be any more done with that game.

Meh. I wouldn't mind a rerelease of FF7 for the PC. I seem to remember last time I installed and played it four or five years ago, it took some work to get it to work correctly and on a large, high-resolution screen, it showed it's age almost worse than the Playstation version on a large TV screen. I might pick up a rereleased version on Steam - assuming it's cheap enough - if I ever get the urge to play it through again and don't feel like messing with making my old copy work again.

Now if they really want me to hand over a large sum of cash, they'd give the FF4 DS treatment to my favorite Final Fantasy game, Final Fantasy 6. I'd buy that up in a heartbeat. Hell, if they did something silly like release it as a Vita exclusive, it (and Persona 4) might push me into considering buying one.

Then again, I haven't bought a newly-created Final Fantasy game since the original Playstation era, so I'm not sure I'm in their target audience any more.

You cant help but feel thats something they need to address with their design teams, if a game so old with a bit of polish can be seen to be a better game than any of their newer stuff.

On the subject the storyline, I didnt find it that convoluted at all. Sure, there were parts of the story that were a bit dull but I think there was a good balance of core storyline vs fluff to keep the game involving.

I will use this moment to say one thing; Cait Sith's sacrafice in the Temple was completely cheapened by having him turn up near instantly afterwards. I know they were trying to bring a comedy edge to it but it just seemed like, "Hey, heres this really dramatic character building moment whe- no, its ok, here he is again."

To everyone saying "replay it, it ain't great" - bullshit. I've replayed it very recently, and outside of the dated graphics it still holds up. Sure, the mechanics aren't anything special, especially by today's standards, but the same goes for any Final Fantasy before... well I don't know, I stopped caring after 9, which incidentally also had insanely basic controls. People just want to play through the story again with updated graphics, why is that so hard to understand?

I think Square's just waiting until they're about to go bankrupt to do it as a parachute.

Sensible decision. It would ruin SE to release FFVII right now, you'd get people saying the the new games aren't good enough, other people saying the games were never good to start with.

Re-releasing FFX on the other hand would be brilliant... it would remind everyone that linear FF games can be good, that the combat could be fun, that there have been good games in relatively recent times number wise.

Of course lots of people hated FFX and they'd continue too, but to be honest, they're probably too far gone to enjoy a JRPG Square Enix style, at least rereleasing FFX would resolidfy the shaking base that Final Fantasy has right now (and I'm saying that as someone who enjoyed XIII)
While my somewhat drunken ass may be wrong (FU JD & Coke), They are rereleasing FFX in HD on PSN?

OT: Y U NO GIVE US WHAT WE WANT!? I can only play the greatly outdated original so many times...
Tidus in HD :/

...I really hate Tidus...

Him and Vaan. Perfect examples of them going in the wrong direction.

Make an entire cast of fun people, then make the protagonists these tedious pieces of crap.

Played 7 8 and 9 last year on the PSP (I suppose I should say PSX, not sure how mods here feel about modded consoles).

Anyways, I will disagree. I'm thinking your brown tinted glasses are being mistaken for objectivity.

It's not world changing but FF7 is a solid game.

Then again so is Super Mario RPG...

and after that digression how exactly would 8 get away scott free from almost all your points?

Keeping in mind I like all 3. of the last PSX series.

It was with X that I got worried, then 12 brought me back, then they just totally went crazy.

If that's a guarantee with money I'd like a check written out whenever you have time.

Just because YOU don't like something doesn't mean its objectively bad. It means subjectively you don't like it.

But I get it, its popular to rag on popular things. Because they only got popular because people just don't know what they like. Silly people.

Reading the interview on Eurogamer, this answer is as definitive as "when hell freezes over." The current SE hasn't the ability to make a game on the level of FFVII, let alone surpass it. I think they know that too.

Why? Why do people want a remake of a game they have already played and love so badly? I know they've done it with Final Fantasy I-IV, so I can kind of see where everyone is coming from, but wouldn't it be better if they focused on making a new Final Fantasy that was good?

I guess I'll never understand, but then again, my favorite FF title was VIII, so people will never understand me either.
I'm with you there... My favourite is IX, followed by VIII, so I would like something new too! Unless they can port IX and VIII to XBLA?

It will be like Duke Nukem Forever. After how many years that game was in development, nothing would have lived up to hype and expectations. Same with FF7. It is a game that people wants, to the point that any talk of the contrary was dismissed. It will fail to live up to expectations.

As for Steam, it is a case of people think they want it. It better be stellar or they will hate it.

Just because you don't like them does not mean they aren't good games.
It won't be like Duke Nukem Forever. Duke Nukem Forever wasn't a remake. It was going to be a new game. FF7 would be a remake and then it would only be held up to the standards of that old game. Also I doubt it's even been in the works too.

Final Fantasy games after 7 have been worse in a few ways. Story in 8 is just laughably bad with massive plot holes and just straight up comedy moments when there shouldn't be ones. 9 imo was not that good. Too childish.
FF10 has some of the worst characters but it's remedy a bit by Auron.

The rest after that hasn't exactly gotten good scores from what I can recall.

I do not buy that it would kill the franchise. Going by that, FF8 wouldn't sell at all because they had FF7. It just doesn't make sense. There will be new Final Fantasy games and as long as they think some more when making them they will sell really really well.
Half-Life was a GREAT game but people still bought HL2 because it too was a great game. People are going to buy the games next in the series because they see what the company can do.

I'm also quite sure that if they released it, they would rake in more than enough money for the development cost.
