I'd probably be happiest if they went the capcom route and made a strictly old school FF game, you know, Super Nintendo style. Dropped that ***** on psn and xbla for a 20 spot and called it a day.

Oh man.

A man can dream.

take it to the furnace. you've got a great replacement already:

Eh it could work, but first they drop the whiney middle school drama and inject more disney fun, preferably with Pixar goodness for good measure

Unfortunately 9 is one of the few that I never actualy beat. My copy got wrecked half way through the game and I never got around to getting a new copy, and it's been almost 8 years since I played it so I don't remember alot of the story.

Also I would like to point out that I meant that I was in the minority with Kefka rather then majority, which I will be editing it. Mainly minority because most will say that Sephiroth was the most evil of the series.
Actually, no. To your credit, you're right. Kefka IS pretty much the most popular villain of the series. LRR forum is majority Kefka too.. Only people who celebrate all that is Sephiroth instead are the children who never got to play VI and only played VII.. And because Sephiroth is apparently so SUPA KAWAII~!! ^^ then.. Yeah.. To his benefit though, for those that have also played Crisis Core on PSP.. You'd see he was quite a legendary hero on his own right.. Before Jenova corrupted him and made him insane. He was quite the serious character, yet charming and funny as well... Yeah, he was actually quite funny too. Great conversations between him and Zack.

The perfect final fantasy:

Battle system from FF13
Liscence system (for weapons) from FF12
AP system for skills from FF9
GF raising system of FF8
Those are some of the worst parts from past FF games. The battle system in FF13 was awful, based on the sole fact that you could only control one character, and you could simply press "auto-battle"...seeing as you only had like one option to choose from anyway. The liscence system from FF12 was like the the sphere grid from FF10, and it made things unecessarily complicated, making you purchase something before you can wield a weapon was a dumb idea.....

^^ Sorry for being a hater:p..... i guess what i'm trying to say is what everyone else has already said >>take FF back to its roots. What made FF appealing to me in the first place was the story, characters, and exploring new worlds, etc. How about making a new FF without changing things and putting unecessary crap in the game we don't need. Make it similar to other FF games, NOT A CLONE.....

/Breathes deeply/......now that that rant is done.....i'm hungry...

How about making something else. Perhaps Chrono 3, or Kingdom Hearts 3, or even a new series. Hell I'd even settle for a Final Fantasy VII remake, esecially after that tease of a tech demo.

...I honestly still don't understand this.. They changed the entire game style several times because fans COMPLAINED IT WAS THE SAME. Fans didn't like the generic SNES gameplay anymore! IX was pretty much the only one (not VIII or VII) to really give the SNES games a memorable call-back.. Yet it's one of the most under-rated games of the series! IX had pretty much everything people loved about IV and V, with a little of VI's comedy.. Yet it's never talked about. Everyone mentions VII and VIII.. But VII was way too over-hyped and it wasn't as grand as everyone claims it is.. And VIII just tortured itself with an absolutely insane and asinine plot explanation. Nothing made sense in that damn game!

They should make it more action-packed. That is where all other RPGs are heading.
...So? Just because BioWare is doing it, doesn't mean EVERYONE ELSE has to. SquareEnix has no reason to blindly follow them. Might be shocking to your boy head, but there ARE people who really don't like Mass Effect and/or Dragon Age. It's not their type of game. Not a problem. "WRPG" fans? Play your damned WRPG games! "JRPG" fans? Play your damned JRPG games!

This goes to both sides here. If you DON'T like WRPG's, DON'T BOTHER SAYING ANYTHING. Just play the games YOU want to. Don't like JRPG's? Fine! Don't play them, don't discuss them, don't even consider them! Just leave the two industries separate, if you're so adamant to keep JRPG's and WRPG's as sub-genres.. But don't you DARE tell someone their game choice is wrong.
^^Agreed. >>>You took the words right out of my mouth....

I'm not a fan of Final Fantasy and I'm not a fan of JRPGs, I absolutely hated FF7 and refused to play another game until FF13 came out, I love FF13, if they don't make another game, especially the best combat system, I will refuse to shell out the dough.

i think they need to refocus themselves. give it time make a story that knocks peoples socks off and design concepts for an open world( 13s linear levels were awful). people play for lovable characters and stories. game play in 13 as far as combat was the best i think but the linear levels were just so bad and i couldn't connect with the characters. just work hard on the story side people don't expect the game play to change like they don't expect a writer to change writing style. but they do expect fresh stories of similar or improved quality. same thing here.

If the determining factor for a pre-emptive attack was just if you hit it with your weapon first, I would hated it less. That, and if there was more than 3 commands including healing at the beginning, it would be a better system. But it wasn't that bad. And as someone said, they could just use Kingdom Hearts instead. If they make another sequel, Lightning would fit in as well as Auron.

You are right about that. Crisis Core gave Sephiroth some depth finally rather then in 7 where you were just told he was a hero that got corrupted. Really it gave a lot of those characters that were in to more depth. It actually made playing 7 more enjoyable having all that back story from Crisis Core. Even with that back story it doesn't really improve Sephiroth as a real villain since he was a more out for revenge character as well as corrupted. Really it makes him more of a villain you can relate to rather then one you are supposed to hate.

Please don't say any more words. At least don't let SquareEnix hear your tripe.. I, as well as many other completely sane gamers, would appreciate not having a game solely full of numbers and experience points.

A PROGRESSIVE ADVANCEMENT SYSTEM. Not a severe grindfest!

...God I can't wait for Final Fantasy XIV.. A fluent progression system I'll actually be able to tolerate!

I still don't understand why they said, specifically, at an E3 meeting, that they were never going to make Final Fantasy VII using the PS3's graphics.

It floored me; are they that dense? Final Fantasy VII; one of the most popular and famous J-RPG games of it's time? It wouldn't even be all that hard, the storyline is already there, all they need to do is re-imagine the graphical engine and cutscenes and whatnot (and given Square-Enix's hardons for cutscenes, they would probably be more than happy to do that...). The entire company would probably be able to retire on the revenue they generate when/if it releases.

They could start by getting Tetsuya Nomura out of there. I'd love a new Final Fantasy with solid gameplay, but if I can't have that, I'll gladly take one with character design that doesn't consist entirely of zippers and buckles.

I say Square-Enix should take advantage of this to drop the angsty protagonists, silly hairdos, revealing costumes, and start making role-playing games that properly fits the definition of 'role-playing'.

Or just do something like Final Fantasy 6, a game in the series Square-Enix made before taking some wrong turns on FF7.

Or hire Akira Toriyama again and do a game like Chrono Trigger.

Either way, there may be hope for them yet.
