By Jingo, something about this smells. Oh, wait. My mistake, all of it smells. China being upset over how China is viewed by the rest of the world is not new. This has been going on for decades, really. Maybe centuries. It's the equivalent of Russians caring more about their country than which particular group is leading it, or France and Germany both thinking how much nicer the Alsace Lorraine would look if the other party wasn't tracking mud all over it, or Americans politely ignoring the bulldozed remains of the natives that make up the ground beneath our parking lots. Why argue with tradition, right?

WORT! WORT! WORT!

HONK BLARGH BLARGH HONK HONK HONK!

You cannot argue with that, I hereby pronounce Bungie guilty of misrepresenting the Sangheili race in Halo and order them to compensate the entire population with a sum ammount of 20,000,000,000,000 credits payed in full up front.

Post Sangheili interview: We are pleased with the courts decision and plan to use this presedent to combat further afronts to our culture, starting with rule 34!

The idea isn't about the actual case. It's about 'can a legal precedent be set for a successful lawsuit where China can use its power to intimidate others into doing what they want'.

This lawyer is supported by the Chinese government, or he wouldn't be allowed to be this high-profile.

A) Lawyer starts frivolous lawsuit based on contrived 'anti-national' item.
B) They wait to see if it works, and see if people are scared off by the nation it's coming from.

C) Profit.

If it works, they've managed to dictate to the world how and when their nation can be portrayed in worldwide media. If it doesn't, it's just some random lawyer. Win/Win.

Yep, it's a Chinese Onion, when you add this to the ridiculously low amount of compensation and the length of time taken to sue.

If not... !?!??!?!?!!!?!??!?!???!!!?!!?!?!?!?!!!???!?!??!!?!!!?!??!??!?!?!?!?

This can't be real. It's gotta be their take on the Onion. Seriously, why would the Chinese of all people be nationalistic? We can ***** and moan about western governments as much as we want, but we ain't got shit on China.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution must be next, I killed so many chinese people in that game with a mix of guns and my lovely arm blades (wish I could've selected those as a weapon and not just hit a key to trigger a kill scene). What's that, I can't go in? Well Mr. chinese security guard maybe this will change your mind *slashes throat with arm blades*.

According to a news article on Japanese news site, NariNari, translated by the scholars over at Sankaku Complex - which I'm not going to link to due to the site suffering from a severe porn infestation

...

Kane and Lynch 2, which is set in Shanghai, sees Kane and his fraternal life partner, Lynch, visiting all kinds of violent horrors upon the Chinese populace - culminating in one very distressing scene where they expose their horrifically pixelated testicles to unsuspecting police officers. [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4IQf9tp3QTU ]
Maybe my priorities aren't quite as straight as I imagine them to be, but it seems very strange that you refuse to link to a site that contains good old fashioned pornography, yet happily provide a link for youtube footage that contains full-frontal nudity, rape, violence and murder.
Sadly there's a very real legal difference between pixelated boobs and unpixelated boobs. Also, I'd hardly call half the shit that appears on Sankaku Complex "old fashioned pornography."

First off, that claim is just funny. If it wasn't bloody fiction and a game it would primarily makes Americans look bad if anything.

Secondly: You go Chinese Lawyer! Go all out and claim all of that 1,600$!

Dude... Take a fucking chill pill. The Russians didn't throw a hissy fit after the MW2 thing. Neither do any of the Arab Oil Nations seek legal reprimands for being depicted as terrorist hives.

The most important thing though is that they didn't throw the fit two years after the games release. You mate are so fucking late to the boat you can't even claim controversy on this game any more. It's old an passe, not even you're grandma is offended by it any more.

Though really dude? 1600$? I made more than that working a part time job on Saturdays. I doubt that 1600$ is gonna cover your legal costs. But it does says something very very disturbing about this guy if he values his race being offended only worth 1600$.

It wasn't that it took place in Africa.

It's that the Zombies were black.

Because that's super racist, we all know that the only Zombies are White Zombies.

I was hoping you'd find humor in people getting upset that it was in Africa and the Africans were black.

But I suppose I emphasized the wrong thing with that picture :p.

I would have been confused if I had been in Africa and 100% of the people I met were white.

Unless it was South Africa, and even then I imagine its not the majority but I could be wrong.

So outside of having every form of media boycott China for fear of being sued... what exactly is this guy's aim?
The funny thing is neither this game or any other console game is officially available to purchase in mainland China. The minority of gamers who pay for console games here must import them. Even Hong Kong releases are considered an import even though the island is under Chinese rule.

If any of you guys had ever seen a Chinese TV show about WW2 made by the Chinese you'd be thinking this lawyer should be careful. Not only is the equipment totally wrong, the Chinese always whoop the Japanese who are shown to be totally incompetent. It's not even like the British TV shows 'allo 'allo or Dad's Army, they are serious, incredibly hateful and intentionally (and insultingly) portray the Japanese in a bad light.
