"Zomg, I'm not buying this game because it has piracy counter-measures. BAAWWW!"

Please people, grow up. If you don't like this little bit of information, then I suppose it's too freaking bad for you, you'll just have to get it the legitimate way: money.

Half of the people who said they won't buy it because of their DRM probably wouldn't buy it anyway, only to download it from a piracy site later on down the road.

Me? I'm still going to buy the game. I mean c'mon, it's freaking STALKER! One of the greatest FPSRPGs in existence! How can such a little catch actually create such a big hype-crusher? They could always just not make it at all and called it a day. If you want stuff like this to stop, then get off your fat butt and try to figure out a way to stop the piracy.

TL;DR

Be happy with what you're getting: A game made with an obviously high-quality brand name, and stop complaining about little problems.
Okay, I am laughing out loud while at your post while crying a little from the inside at your stupidity.
First thing first, It should not be the consumer who should be glad to get the product but the provider that he is getting any in the first place.
I for once won't buy this one until it gets cracked or some shit. Yes I like Stalker series but considering their track records of absolutely horrible stability, I will not risk the health of my computer or my privacy just because I can be butt fucked by someone I payed to entertain me.
This shit is going to do nothing for the pirates, the only one that is getting punished is the one that buys the product and legitly uses it. The pirates will simply have the benefit of stable offline play at no cost while I would have to spend 30$ on the game and extra on the bandwidth the game uses. As you can see, pirating the game is much more lucrative deal than paying full price for the game. How the fuck is this a benefit?

If there was any reason whatsoever to expect that this would make any difference in piracy, then there would not be nearly this level of response. It's like seeing a person with Arthritis trying to cure it by wearing magnets, and the magnets...make it harder for us to play video games.

That metaphor kinda petered out towards the end.

This is sad. Always on DRM only hurts the consumer, not the pirates. If it did prevent piracy I would be all for it however.

Having Valve and Activision doing always online DRM is bad enough, but atleast those companies can be expected to be with us for a long time to come.

Since GSC and their servers may go down at anytime, that makes STALKER 2 a $5 deal from the bargain bin at best.

I Love the STALKER Series, and this makes me cry. I Will buy it anyway, because im a total pushover. But hey!

And Like others have said, It wont be long untill its cracked.
I Will buy the game, i never pirate them. However, i will Buy this and then download this "Simulated" connection because my internet is a random cutty outy ***** aswell.

The Saddest thing about this is that the Modding community will die. And S.T.A.L.K.E.R wouldn't be S.T.A.L.K.E.R without them!

You see, the only real problem with DRM is that it only ever hurts the legitimate consumer. All strict DRM does to pirates is make it take them longer to crack the game. Once they've cracked the game, say by creating a patch with all the over-the-internet data, the DRM does nothing to them, and continues to hassle the legitimate consumer. Consider if the game's servers went down. No legitimate consumer would be able to play the game, but the pirates would be able to just fine! So, in reality, DRM does nothing for its intended purpose: stopping pirates.

Valve doesn't have always-on DRM.

EA have nothing to do with Stalker 2.

It must really suck to be that 1% of people who live in east bumfuck and don't have internet. I'd be wicked pissed if I were them.
Because of course, your ISP will never perform maintenance, nothing will ever go wrong with your connection, and the game's servers will never, ever go down. No sir, none of that will ever fucking happen or affect anyone with a decent connection.

Well that's true. Valve's DRM is much more benign than what GSC is trying to pull here.

Since we'd need a good online connection to play STALKER2 anyway, GSC should simply let Valve distribute the game through Steam.
Saves them a bunch of game servers. Saves the consumer alot of hassle and uncertainty. Lower investment and more sales.

Plus one for a valid concern, but minus several dozen for the tabloid title.

P.S. I'm still gonna buy it.
If demanding a constant internet connection to play a game that you own isn't draconian, what would you say is a more fitting term?

Stupid fuckers have killed their own game.

?Software piracy is an issue for us, we try to fight it, but within reason? Protection from piracy? Part of the content will be located on the server and downloaded as the game progresses. Permanent internet access is required. Text information, code and quests will be loaded through that connection.?
You know, I was about to come here and say "oh boo hoo, some little DRM that you won't even notice." And well, sorry for that. I agree with this, permanent internet access crosses the line.

I wasnt planning on getting stalker 2 anyway but after hearing this Im sure I wont. I oppose all kinds of DRM on pure principle. Inconveniencing your customers for any reason is never a good business model and should not be tolerated by consumers.

Of course the kicker is it will only be a few hours to a full day before dedicated pirates have the thing cracked

Even though the "Always online" DRM doesn't affect me as my ISP is stable, I still think it's stupid. All DRM does, especially this kind, is force honest customers jump through hoops to prove they're honest, while pirates don't have to do anything.

Take a page from CD Projekt Red. They don't use DRM, and they're doing very well for themselves.

Also, anyone who says "They're just protecting their ip", Ubisoft put always online DRM on Assassins Creed 2 and it got cracked. It was a better version because you didn't have the stupid always online condition. http://www.geekosystem.com/assassins-creed-2-drm-crack-ubisoft/

yep, when will these guys realize that
A) we aren't connected all the time
B) We don't WANT to be connected all the time
C) The internet just isn't GOOD enough to be connected all the time.

Well I hope the game sells well on consoles because it's not likely to on the PC anymore with stuff like this. I don't buy Ubisoft titles that have always-on DRM for this exact reason, which is a shame because I heard the newest Settlers game was good, I wont be picking up STALKER 2.

Pity, huge fan of the series. Would have been an almost guaranteed purchase from me otherwise. Now... we'll see.

There's DRM out there that locks out content if you buy a used copy or limits the amount of installations possible. At least the system those guys propose doesn't seem to deny the most basic consumer laws.

It's still stupid, of course, for a single player game to be unplayable offline is an extremely stupid feature and I certainly wouldn't pay much for a product this flawed.
I know, and I oppose those too. However, we are obviously of differing opinions as I consider this much more restrictive then the "pay $10 to unlock online" and limited installs methods. Yes, those two are incredibly annoying and stupid, but you can still at least play the game whenever you want to. You're not at the mercy of your ISP and a game company's servers.

The original thread title was something like "STALKER 2 Cancelled" before the OP changed it due to people saying it was misleading.

This is a really good point. The quality of internet services and infrastructure is widely inconsistent around the world. For such a connected (lol) age we live in, the majority of people sure do enjoy spotty internets [sic].
