Name: Attatroslia (Alia)
Gender: Female
Age: Refuses to say.
Species: Astrid
Appearance: Attatroslia is tall for an Astrid, standing at just under 2.75 meters tall. Her face is gaunt by Astrid standards, pulling down to point that makes a sort of chin. Her eyes are wide and circular, suggesting she is still young. Alia has taken to wearing human clothing and has a particular love for the "lab-coat", which she wears almost constantly. The only exception to her human dress, is a long rubber-like glove she wears on her left arm for reasons she does not say.
Job Title: Computer and Communication Specialist.
Equipment: Alia carries a fully up-to-date universal translator (with all of her preferred modifications) and a portable computer to allow her to interface directly with most computerized systems (it runs on a operating system she designed for the universal translator). She has taken to collecting and making tools to allow her to communicate with even non-verbal sapient creatures, as well as ancient examples of communication from the many races around the universe (including a few rare human books). She carries a Gauss-gun for when there is a "communications breakdown" - she's insane, not crazy
Personality: Alia is eccentric, bordering on insane. She will find strange fascination with common things, while finding some truly bizarre sights boring. Alia is outgoing, like most of the Astrid, and wears her emotions on her sleeve - her color constantly changes from one thought to another. She is somewhat less aggressive then other female Astrids, but she still makes the most bold of other species look tame when she wants (usually over some particular disagreement about a language aspect)
Strengths: Alia is a master of communication in all it's many forms. She has taken to collecting and making tools to allow her to communicate with even non-verbal sapient creatures, as well as ancient
Weaknesses: Alia is slowly dying from a disease best translated into Human speech as "Crystal-Rot". This particular disease is particularly virulent, slowly destroying the Astrid equivalent of the nervous system, leaving her infected parts black and unable to change color, with green veins following where the nerves used to be. The disease has infected her whole body, and has no cure, but until it reaches a certain point of infection, her mind and body are still functional. The disease is past its infectious stage, but the disease has a stigma associated with it making other Astrid who are aware of the condition somewhat stand-offish and distant. The particularly disturbing part of the disease is that when it reaches the central nervous system (or equiv), it will dissolve her brain and returning her to a more child-like state. As a result, her eyes are more circular then they should be for her age. Combining the physical effect on her brain with the outcast status cause by the disease is slowly driving her mad. As of now, the disease has spread to just below her shoulder - the reason for her long rubbery gloves.
Bio: Alia is a computer and communications specialist, handling languages of both computer and organic varieties with ease. Before she joined the Diplomatic Corp, she was a programmer working to ensure the universal translator always had the most up-to-date language software and on the latest slang and language changes. She had a fairly unexciting life, but it was a good one. She had a stable, well-paying, job, a good relationship, and more then enough intellectual pursuits to keep her occupied. This all changed after an incident while studying language changes in the Trannec System. While learning all the new insults hurled during the Blood Sports, she was injured by a somewhat overzealous Ferrax. This would not have been much of an issue, if not for the wound festering because of the lower grade of medical equipment on the Ferrax home world. when she returned to her home, she found her arm a slightly darker shade then the rest of her body. Going to a doctor, she was diagnosed with Crystal-Rot and quarantined until the infectious stage ended. When word of her condition reached those she knew, her life fell apart. She found her relations constantly "busy", and her job fired her for "lack-luster performance" - the real cause however was obvious. As the condition spread up her arm, even walking in public drew stares of disgust and pity. With nothing to do, Alia found herself questioning everything she had done in her life, whether it had any real value at all. After much soul-searching, and the expense of most of her savings, she decided to go out into S.U. Space in the Diplomatic Corp, parlaying her knowledge of computer systems and languages into a communications and computers spec. since joining the ship (assuming this has happened at the start of the game), she has taken to spending her time working with L.I.S.A. to improve the ships computer hardware and software systems.
Alia has one surviving parent, who she has not seen or spoken with since the "incident"
