WHAT SIGNIFICANT PLOT POINT WAS CHANGED IN THE REMASTERED VERSIONS BY HIM NOT SHOOTING FIRST THAT GETS YOU ALL SO RILED UP?!

It's an important part of Han's character. It's the difference between him killing in self-defense, to him just killing someone who gets in his way. It really does make an impact on the way you (should) look at his character. That and a lot of other little (or not so little) things they changed in the remastered editions, while not changing the plot, do really have an impact on the movie as a whole. It's admittedly hard to explain to someone who has never seen star wars, but I have seen DVD collections at Best Buy that include both the remastered and original versions of the films. I'd say watch the original versions first, and if your interested check out the remastered versions.

I'm using Netflix. One DVD at a time. Will probably take a few weeks to get through all 6. Due to shipping and stuff. 3-4 day DVD turnaround.

A New Hope has been sitting in my house since October. Untouched, really. I only use Instant Streaming these days.

I think you should just watch all the Star Wars movie to cross them off the list. Just try not to go down the 'rabid Star wars fanboy' route, because it will leave you unable to enjoy anything in life.

I'm not going to over sell it to you. In a away, the themes and even what the villians represented are pretty much outdated in this day and age... though it might go back to it. The special effects are out dated too.

There are somethings I do want you to consider. Star Wars helped finish what Star Trek started. Before these two shows, Science Fiction was not taken seriously as a means of story telling at all. It wasn't even given enough credit or respect to make any amount of money back. Sci Fi movies of the time, if they even got it that far, were sold as spaghetti westerns in space. Even the original star wars "a new home" was laughed upon. The Theaters didn't even want it. And many refused to play it in their theaters. Fox had to "tack it on" to another movie that was considered to be a more "safe" hit.

The result was obvious and because of the success of Star Wars and Star Trek, we now have Science Fiction taken a little more seriously.

Don't watch the movie in the mod to have it "impress you", because it probably wont. In terms of action, it can't go one on one with the action found in Scott Philgrahm, Matrix, Or even 1, 2, 3. The action is handled differently, and the lightsaber battles were not as fast paced as the newer movies. Not because "luke was a beginner" or "vader was just a head on a robot body" but because they were using actual fencing styles baised upon actual sword fighting styles. The fighting from ep 3 was the result of a man (can't remember his name) that Lucas hired to create the fighting styles. And if you watch the method of fighting from ep 1 to ep 3 you can see it. The final battle in ep 1 was more connected to the fight style used in the Original Trilogy, only with more money at his disposal, and younger actors, he was able to take the time to actually teach them how to fight, and thus, the moves were more fluid and faster.

Having someone FORCED to watch something is a sure fire way to ruin the movie for them. I'd say, sure why not, watch it. Its a fun movie, incredibly quotable, it has legends like Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, and Billie D Williams, so you know the delivery is going to be there. But i'd suggest just relaxing and enjoying it.

In all this overhype and dramatic "what ROCK have YOU lived under" the whole purpose OF Star Wars is lost. The point is to have fun watching it.

So if you do decide to watch them, sit back, relax, and pop a bag of pop corn, and just have fun.

You do not find lightsabers, jedi, Darth Vader, lightnings, big-ass walkers, spaceships, space stations capable of planetary destruction, explosions, the Force, planetary destruction, and the struggle between "mostly good" and "mostly bad" excting? You should not watch it.

Nevertheless, go and play Kotor I and II. Take everything that is Star Wars, add a bit of humor, lots of politics, great dialogue and story telling, moral ambigousity(is that the correct form?), the most badass old person ever, and one of the biggest Xanatos Gambits ever, and the fact that it's a game, and you get something that you will enjoy, no matter what.

I'd advise you to start with Episode 1.

First of all, it's "should have". Second of all, watching the story in chronological order makes sense.

I have to disagree with this. Watching the original trilogy opens up the world, and explains it. It's the introduction. THEN watch I II III to see the universe be expanded, as well as giving the backstory of vader/anakin.

You really don't have to watch Star Wars anything.

If for some reason you get bored with all the current mostly special effects based films and enough 3D to force you cross-eyed for life go find a small video store in your town and rent or download the original version of Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope then watch it. Make sure you don't get the version that has the updated special effects and added/altered scenes.

Yes, just because! But seriously, whats the harm in not seeing them? Look, if your going to just leave your current standards of movies at the door. I think the movies withstand the test of time, but I'm a really big fan who may be biased. But I figure you'll either go: "Well, it IS from 1977." or "Whoa, this is from 1977?"

If you need to ask, then you really shouldn't. You should see it out of curiosity, not because some guy said it was good. However, you should pay attention to the "why."

In my own personal opinion, watch it when you feel twelve years old again. You will have a lot of fun with it.

Think of it as it's own contained, fictional universe. Like Lord of The Rings, or Harry Potter. It's just another franchise that has a very large fan base. I'll admit I didn't care so much for the movies, but I loved the games set in the old republic (about 4000 years before the movies).

Samurai in Space + classic good vs. evil and coming of age tale + immense cultural significance = worth checking out.

Or just watch the first one to see whether it's something you enjoy. If it isn't, then you know that and can move along, since it's not the series you're looking for.

Just to test whether you have an imagination or not.

Star Wars has always been about so much more than the movies themselves. The viewer has to bring a sense of wonder, imagination and possibility to what they are presented with. That's why these films have had lives much longer than many others, and that's why the fans get so attached. They have personally explored the larger possibilities of the fictional world in their own imaginations so they feel very connected with it.

You don't have to love them, or even the characters. You just have to indulge in the possibilities the Star Wars universe presents. It opens up the possibilities of storytelling by being so fantastic and unrealistic. And yet, for the original trilogy at least, remains coherent.

If you're more of a '2001' type of guy I get it. But you should at least know where the other boundary lies. As Clint Eastwood once mumbled 'A man's gotta know his limitations.'

I like the two trilogies for different reasons. The original trilogy put the "from farmboy to hero" fantasy archetype into sci fi, giving it a new lease of life.

The new trilogy explores the jedi more, which personally I love, having an addiction to the culture of the mysterious races and groups of sci fi (jedi, time lords, etc) and the new films plus extended universe did it in a way I liked. Still mystery there. (unlike doctor who, David Tennant's finale was sort of good, but ruined time lords for me.)

Also the new trilogy has Christopher Lee in it!!!!!

We live in a funny age with funny people that take offense to other peoples tastes, I like SW, and so do many other people. If you don't, than don't act like the guy getting strong armed into watching it.
