I'm getting depressed, the fact that Richard Morgan wrote the story initially allowed me to accept this game but the attitude of Starbreeze is like a bucket of hot shit poured over my cornflakes...

Fallout changed its viewpoint and it was awesome. No reason why Syndicate isn't gonna be awesome.
Your argument makes no sense dude, if all they did was change the viewpoint in syndicate it would be a strategy game with a first person perspective, but they are stripping the strategy elements out. I mean, would you still make that argument if in Fallout 3 they took out all the perks, the leveling, the skills and the open world and made it a linear shooter?

Its easier to sell to consoletards, thats why they are doing it, why they can not do both IE use the same properties and engines to make a TBS/RTS and FPS thus covering both markets and makeing more money..oh wait thats not easy just spam a FPS or 3rd person shooter.......

PS:Fallout 3 is a lulz fest its more of a mess of a game than Daikatana or even Oblivion.

Why would they need to cash in on a dead franchise. You cant even find Syndicate on GOG.com. Id never even heard of the game. You might as well just start with a brand new IP since the last one they had was like 15 years ago.

It costs more to start up a new IP.

The failure of AAA gaming can be seen every day on this site it appears. This is the same crap as the xcom disaster, these people have no clue...

Next up: Command & Conquer re-imagined as a gritty, realistic modern day military shooter. It's sure to be a hit!!

Gotta watch for those sarcastic remarks that bite you back ;)
Hmmm. I wonder how I missed that one? I used to really like C&C back in its heyday. Was the game any good?

And, in light of this revelation, I would like to amend my previous statement to say "Age of Empires re-imagined as a gritty, realistic military shooter!"

"We're big fans of the original Syndicate, and we're definitely paying as much homage to it as we can - bringing across the essence of the world, the core essence of what it is to be an Agent," he continued. "That sounds wanky but it's true - we're taking the Persuadatron and evolving it in different ways, the weapons and brutality. On both facets of the game, the co-op and the single player, it's very key to stay true to it."
They always say they're "big fans" of the thing they shortly commence to tear to shreds. It's obligatory and tiresome by this point. Just say you don't have the talent to do anything other than first person shooters and be done with it guys.

Sounds great but if you'll allow me a bit of pedantry, the agents at work in the original Syndicate weren't heroic J.C. Denton types; they were effectively mindless machines under the direct control of an "eye in the sky" overseer who fine-tuned their performance by injecting [or withholding] copious amounts of drugs. Based on the classic opening cinematic, they didn't exactly enter the profession voluntarily, either.
Right on Andy.

I bet most people who rage in this thread will buy it sooner or later.
If not, thank God, as humanity still can be saved.

I would just like to let my inner nerd speak and mention that the original Syndicate wasn't top-down. It was from an Isometric perspective.

Anyways, he is right about one thing: it does sound wanky.
Not that he actually says it in so many words (actually it's only Neil McEwan in the title blurb?) but "times have moved on and left old games behind" is implying that only an FPS will work in modern times and no other genre will work.
Which almost goes without saying that this is in no way true.

really like the originals. maybe it will be a solid shooter but i highly doubt it will be as good as the good old original. i want to control 4 agents and not just one from FP view. even when they try to stay original, already the FPS approach is a mistake.
i think this will not go well for old times fans of the original.

Those games you listed are either not AAA or are considered standard genre.
I never really worked out what stands for AAA these days. Seems to be just whatever franchise they're milking to death; that's being sold at midnight.
AAA is basically big budget, thats what it boils down to. It means big publisher, big marketing, and big development costs.

what is it with this idea of taking old games that play like nothing on the market but really need a modern update and turning it in a fps its kind of annoying and it isn?t helped when the company says something stupid like this
yes the game industry has left the original game behind because its old and could really use a reboot or remake not because it isn?t a fps.
you know i can deal with people taking old ip for the name and turning them into fps (hell they might even be good)I can deal with people missing out a chance to create or recreate a truly unique game I can deal with the huge amount of fps titles that flood the market.
But I am so sick of hearing people say that all that matters are fps. Rts games are still alive even turn based games are still alive. I know console outsell pc and you have to make a console fps for the big guys who give you your money. But just say you wanted to make a Syndicate fps and don?t go to my face and tell me rts games don?t sell because they do.
