Because it's a chance to play a game we've been looking forward to for years, because we know Blizzard makes quality games and wouldn't release a beta if it sucked, and because we want to be a part of the development process by telling them what we like and don't like about the game before it's released.tkioz said:Why does anyone give a damn about a beta??? If they finally named a release date I'd be excited, but a beta? A buggy unfinished copy?
I'd look at more like "well in a few hours I'm going to have a 4 course meal made by a world renowned chef, so I guess I'll fill up on cheap service station food". Why play an unfinished version when you can wait a while longer and get the complete and perfected version.Enigmers said:Because it's a chance to play a game we've been looking forward to for years, because we know Blizzard makes quality games and wouldn't release a beta if it sucked, and because we want to be a part of the development process by telling them what we like and don't like about the game before it's released.tkioz said:Why does anyone give a damn about a beta??? I don't look at a free sample of nachos and say "why would anyone want like three nachos? I'd rather have a hundred nachos in a bin with cheese smeared all over them. You guys are weird."
Don't feel bad, I'm right there with you. I'm /maybe/ above average on rts games (probably a stretch) but I'm routinely flattened by the "gosus" (Korean word for pros, whether or not said players are actually Korean)FightThePower said:I really want to play this, but I am worried that because I haven't played the original Starcraft II, I don't have much experience with online RTSs in general and because this game is highly competitive I will get flattened.
Plus you know what online gamers are like "lol noob you suck". Thanks, I'm trying to get into this game, have fun, expand your overall player base and contribute to the community and your response is to laugh at me. Thanks.
Stress test of Battlenet 2.0 is the main reason for this beta. The beta itself will be very polished and not a bug ridden mess like beta's normally are for this reason.toapat said:i have one question:
they need a beta? they already gave south korea's best players jobs to test it.

Might just be me - and I get the feeling that while it's not, some might disagree - but the community feeling of contributing to a finished, perfect game is a nice one.tkioz said:I'd look at more like "well in a few hours I'm going to have a 4 course meal made by a world renowned chef, so I guess I'll fill up on cheap service station food". even so, WoW generally isnt going to be polished to mirror shine upon first look. PTRs are as much for balance as for glitches because otherwise WoW would kill itself.Amnestic said:Havingtoapat said:i have one question:

Having the vast unwashed masses (AKA us) testing it to find all the bugs out there also makes sense. It's to do with sheer weight of numbers rather than quality of testing. The umpteen-thousand beta testers are more likely to find all the bugs than the handful of Korean players simply because there are more of us.
It's hardly a new idea, and it's one Blizzard employs regularly with WoW with their Test Servers.
Well a game as vast as WoW is never fully polished. Again, there's no testing which will eliminate a bug of every kind until you have 12 million-odd players running around. Even then, stuff still pops up.toapat said:even so, WoW generally isnt going to be polished to mirror shine upon first look. nd being a non-WoW blizzard game, this "beta" should be the closest thing to a printable thing we have ever seen.
