Blizzard has also said that they're trying to incorporate some features to help beginners get good at the game. Not sure how that's going to work out but I'd imagine they'd want the horde to test that.

I was okay at wc3, and to get decent at a blizzard rts you need two things: build orders (which means just watching pro replays) and constantly trying to save time. When you first start out playing an rts you'll probably give a move order and then follow your units with the camera until they get to their destination instead of building more units, scouting, making control groups etc while they're walking.

When asked how to improve most good players just say "play more matches", but if you don't actively try to revise build orders, work on your attack timing, micromanagement skills etc you can end up playing a thousand games without really getting any better.

Why does anyone give a damn about a beta??? If they finally named a release date I'd be excited, but a beta? A buggy unfinished copy?
Because it's a chance to play a game we've been looking forward to for years, because we know Blizzard makes quality games and wouldn't release a beta if it sucked, and because we want to be a part of the development process by telling them what we like and don't like about the game before it's released.

I don't look at a free sample of nachos and say "why would anyone want like three nachos? I'd rather have a hundred nachos in a bin with cheese smeared all over them. You guys are weird."
I'd look at more like "well in a few hours I'm going to have a 4 course meal made by a world renowned chef, so I guess I'll fill up on cheap service station food". Why play an unfinished version when you can wait a while longer and get the complete and perfected version.

Ignoring the fact that i do not believe it will be buggy and broken when released... it a necessary step to take to get to completion. I am excited as hell for beta, but I also know that i am probably not going to get in.
What beta means is that we are one step closer to the polished final release, and that is pretty exciting if you ask me.
It also means that we will be flooded with more information, user made commentated matches, strategies, blogs, reviews and other such information. The thing I am most curious about, is if the game will stand up to the original. I will now be able to find out if people really think that.

They already sent emails to everyone who got in, they said it via the twitter account.

Also, HALLELUJAH! (Even though I didn't get in.)
That's not true. I'm following their Twitter and I've seen nothing of the sort.
Thank Goodness, stop spreading lies people!

I have literally had a battle net account since the webpages inception, so maybe I have a chance.

(I also own every game you can register into it, but that is just fanboyism)

Im sorry but this is going to go horribly wrong, Blizzard time is different to our mortal time.
This is the most reasonable statement I've heard from the Escapist forums in the longest while.

I don't know if to be pleased or infuriated.

I'm sporting a 6 year old box that wasn't cutting edge 6 years ago, only hope left is that Blizz is interested how the game will work on junk like mine.

Oh great. This means that by the time Mr. Average Gamer like me gets their hands on the thing, every internet nerd plus the whole of South Korea will already be damn experts who will destroy my noob army in 30 seconds with one SCV. Remind me never, ever to play this game online. My self-esteem is still recovering from all the defeats I suffered in the original. I never won it on battle-net one single time, despite having played the game on a regular basis ever since it came out...

Isn't the new Battle.Net supposed to be better at matchmaking people with their appropriate skill levels?

Or did I make that up? I dunno. It sounds like something they'd have done.

Go here [http://eu.battle.net/?rhtml=y], create or log in with a Battle.net account.

On the right side of the "Manage your Games" section on the Account Management page there'll be a 'Beta Profile Settings' hyperlink. Click, follow instructions. Pray to any gods you believe in and maybe some you don't if you think it will help.

I just created a B.Net account and attached my old copy of Starcraft to it. I'm not a big fan, so I don't care if I don't get in. But it sure would be fun. :) SC1 was part of my childhood man, I hope they release another campaign editor..

Unlike Starcraft 1, which runs on damn near anything at this point (which is likely part of its continued popularity), will my PoS PC run this game?

This site [http://starcraft.incgamers.com/articles/comments/starcraft-2-system-requirements] has the following to say:

StarCraftWire.net Minimum Specifications:

* CPU: Intel Pentium 4 2.4 GHz
* Memory: 1 GB RAM
* Graphics Card: Nvidia Geforce FX 5500
* Hard Disk Space: Undeterminable*

StarCraftWire.net Alternative Minimum Specifications:

* CPU: Athlon XP 2500+
* Memory: 1 GB RAM
* Graphics Card: ATI Radeon 9700
* Hard Disk Space: Undeterminable*

Recommended:
* CPU: Athlon X2 / Core 2 Duo
* Memory: 2 GB RAM
* Graphics Card: Geforce 8600 GT
* Hard Disk Space: 7 GB

Which isn't really that bad at all, assuming they're real.
