I am on mission 23 of 26 at the moment, taking a break. The campaign is totall mind blowing and really, REALLY intense and it takes it out of you. The best RTS campaign ever made, by miiiiiiles. Each and every mission has a new twist, it's never just the standard "build a base and destroy the other guy", there's all kinds of shit happening and the objectives are never the same. Fun, varied, diverse and exhilarating, you never expect what you are going to encounter with each new mission.

I would get it but my new computer is yet to be set up and it is probably sold out throughout my area.

I work in IT, meaning that I drive all over setting up and fixing computers for different companies. I have three computers to rollout at home so I decided to head there and begin the rollout. While doing so, I installed the game. I suppose I'll have to wait until I'm off work to actually play though.

I am loving every minute of it. And my Walmart got a case of the collectors editions, one of which I happily exchanged currency for.

I'm guessing your a bit sad that you didn't get to review it, Mr. Funk. :(

I've played the game for about six hours, and it is such a superb game so far. In the beginning, they don't go to hard on you, it's easy to complete the first couple of missions, and throughout the missions, you're free to use whatever tactic you like. And it gives a few good suggestions during the match. While it can feel too easy in the beginning, it's kind of liberating when I think back on the countless cans of whoop-ass I received in the beta.

Another neat surprise is that there are all the vast options with troops. Even though it gets a bit intimidating with so many choices, you usually find a good strategy to go with it. As for the missions themselves, the objectives are nice and varied, and the maps are well designed.

Speaking as someone who was too young to play the original Starcraft, this franchise is new to me, but it's a great game. The story doesn't demand too much that you played the first, and the learning curve is forgiving if you've never touched an RTS.

But that requires soo much effort! I mean I have to go get my phone out of my pocket, look up the number in the first slot of my speed dial, talk to some guy on the other end for like freaking thirty seconds, then I have to get up from my desk to walk the ENTIRE ten feet to my front door to do this whole complicated transaction where I gotta give a guy money and he has to give me change and there's a pizza somewhere in all of this, then I gotta carry it ALL THE WAY BACK TO MY DESK.

And while all this is going on...

Starcraft 2 is not being played! Herecy! Sheneigans! Poppycock I tell you!

I'm gonna wait a little bit for this to come out. I've gotten too many new games in the past month, so i'd rather play those out a bit before I jump into anything new. Besides... even if it is Starcraft II, I think i've moved beyond the "classic" RTS style of game.

I'll probably wait until it gets cheaper or something.

Nah. It just means I can play it without a critical eye. And let's be honest, everyone here knows how much a fan of the series I am. While I like to think I'd be able to judge it fairly, better to have someone who is less automatically predisposed to like it giving it a fair shake :)

I still get to review BlazBlue CS though :p

I got it last night, and played the campaign until 5:00 am. It is great so far, I kinda like how the single player campaign is using a lot of the classic terran units where the multiplayer does not. The clickable thingies are definitely cool, and my favorite is probably Donny Vermillion lol (the propaganda news reporter).

Edit: The jukebox is also a nice touch.

I debated calling in sick to work today and going to pick it up at midnight. But I did not, I am at work, and SC2 will have to wait for my lunch break for me to pick it up.

When I get off though, I anticipate losing a couple hours in the campaign.

I bought it at midnight and returned home to find I can't play it on my crappy computer and my other computer (which I am in the proccess of building) is missing a very important part. The bloody case! Newegg forgot to send it after I was waiting for two weeks to get it.

Still the menu looks nice as does the install screen but thats all I got to see.

Anyword on new games from the Galaxy map editor? I know that it has been quite expanded from the one aviable at the beta phase, and with that people made everything from pacman clones, to first person shooter.
Custom games will come. Campaign time is now.
/agree dont bother with teh custom games for a bit, most are bland remakes from SC1.

Have you gotten to the 'toss missions yet John? It blew my mind.

Oh, it's great. I'm sitting here clicking "I have read and I accept the following Terms of Sale" and then being told there was an error processing my account, and doing it again.

Seriously, Blizzard, why in the hell do you still not get the size of your fanbae? EVERY friggin' new game...*grumble*

So, StarCraft II has been out in North America for just over 11 hours now [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/102374-StarCraft-II-Midnight-Launch-Detected] - and for longer in other parts of the globe. Now that more than just a select few gamers have had a chance to sit down with the game and its long-awaited campaign, the big question remains: How is it?
Shouldn't you at least wait until fanboy nostalgia has relaxed a little before asking how it is?

We already knew that the multiplayer was superb, of course. I've sunk maybe three hours into the campaign thus far through five or so missions, and it's been a blast thus far. The gameplay is still StarCraft at its core, but I'm really liking how they gradually introduce elements mission-on-mission, with each new unit or structure specifically suited for the task at hand.
Really? Because from every gameplay trailer I have seen, it has more of a Red Alert 3 feel to it, read: Too Much Shit Going On, And Its All In Unnecessary 3-D feel. Also, the whole "introduce elements gradually" things has been around since the original C&C, so did you mean to say SCII has done it so well as to out shine every other strategy game in existence, or that you simply enjoy the mechanic?

One thing that came as a pleasant surprise was the little clickable objects in the various hubs between missions. Click on a photo on the wall, and a short cutscene ensues, whether it's a hilariously propagandist news report or Jim Raynor telling Marine buddy Tychus Findlay about a photograph of a local Zerg hunt. They're just tiny little extras, but they're fun and help flesh out the people on screen, and it's a neat little touch to the between-mission areas that gives them more character.

Also, the Lost Viking arcade cabinet in the Hyperion's cantina is a strangely addictive shmup. I found the loading screen warning absolutely hilarious, but it was three in the morning, so make of that what you will. Terra-Tron does not like you.
Always be wary of a game that attempts to distract you from its core gameplay with neat little extras.

So, yeah - I've been having a great time with it thus far, but I expected that.
Try and answer this one honestly... if the game happened to be at or below mediocre, would you have even noticed, or cared? Sorry if this post seems pessimistic, I seem to be in the minority of gamers who feel this sequel too far detached from the original, which happens to be one of the best games I've ever played.
