Grumpy? I'm just talking basic facts here. L. Sprague de Camp, who was "consulted" for Conan the Barbarian (in movie terms, "consulting" merely means the studio agrees to send them a copy of the script: they don't actually have to listen or implement any of the consultant's advice), basically muscled his way into the rights holders before becoming one of the main controllers of CPI (Conan Properties Incorporated). Part of that included writing his own Conan stories, and making them part of the "official canon." Nowadays, the stories he wrote are not considered "official," and haven't been reprinted in decades. Glorified fan-fiction.
So hopefully they do a decent adaptation. Hopefully without the overt racism!
The "overt racism" only affected something like three or four stories out of two dozen, and given this was written in the 1930s it's pretty pointless to judge them by modern values.
