Good news!

After betraying old Stargate fans all I can do is gloat and pity it's near demise. I hope this teaches him a lesson.
Why it makes the other stargates look pathetic poorly written lack luster excuses of tv shows.

I will not be sorry to see this one go. It removed all the adventure and humour from the show, all in the name of appealing to "non" sci fi fans. 'Dark' 'edgy', these are not words to be used in the same breath as the stargate franchise. Dramatic yes, suspensful, emotional, but not pandering to some assumed teenage interest.

Whoever they thought the target audience was, clearly it didnt exist....

*Just as a side note, alot of that sense of adventure has been preserved in the series Sanctuary with Amanda Tapping - look it up!

So much potential lost in favour of teen drama.
This.

I kind of liked the original movie but I didn't like any of the TV series until this one. This one has a good sci-fi core but has so much else that you have to put up with and do your best to ignore. Maybe they could fire everybody except Rush and Greer (and maybe keep Eli, Young, and a female character other than Cloe) that might save them enough money to keep the show going. Then get rid of the alien stones and the show would be much better IMHO.

Aww man, only show of it's kind I actually liked. I could care less about how 'angsty' (Srsly, has no one ever watching shit like Dawesons Creek? Or Roswell? THAT was angsty!) the series was, it was still pretty good. And it had a Scottish guy in it. If it does get cancelled in the end though, I hope like Christ on a cross they give it a decent ending. I'm sick of shows I like being cancelled and ending with a "And that's it 'till next season....wait, what? We're cancelled? WTF!?"

MGM owns the Stargate franchise separate from Syfy, and it's possible they could find a way to continue telling the story in some way with or without a new network signing on.

Atlantis sucks, SG1 was the best, and Universe is pretty dang good. Universe is the Star Trek: Voyager for the SG series. Also, the graphics are pretty damn awesome. Rush, Eli, and Young are my favorite characters, and it saddens me there's so many people here jumping on the "it sucks because it has less explosions and more thought and talk!" bandwagon.

Disappointing guys, really.

Yeah, it wasnt a very good show. Maybe the fans should lobby to have it transfered to Fox, they have a habit of funding bad TV shows to keep on running and running and running.

the show started really strong but went down hill, i still like it and hope that it continues but at the same time its getting worse and worse as well as being no where near as good as SG1 or atlantis (atlantis was the best btw!)

but its also trying to be Battlestar Galactica and i dont think they really have the writes to pull it off, Battlestar (at least s1, s2 beginning of s3 and s5) was amazing and one of my fav shows ever in tv, this just isnt as good

then again its a hell of alot better than Caprica or any of the teen vampire shows which have assaulted television in millions ever since twilight was in cinema

MMM.. WoT soup!

Well I find it regrettable really. The show is by no means phenominal, but compared to SG-1 & atlantis its a revelation. I really loved the original film, but those two series were just god awful in my opinion. I saw SGU as the chance to give the franchise some legitimacy again even though the 2 prior series had since butchered the notions of the original film to epic FUBAR status that there was no real semblence of what the franchise once was.

That being said... I understand why the show failed. You had 2 camps fighting against it. The "its not McGyver stargate so it must be killed with fire" camp and the "Its trying to be a cheap clone of Battlestar Galactica because people involved with it, were involved with BSG" So really there was nothing the show was going to do that was going to be able to endear it to either of these 2 camps after it started.

Honestly, I think the show would have done infinitely better had it been a new IP not tied to the stargate franchise, and just let that franchise just fade out of existence instead of insulting its original core fans. Honestly everything that is good about the show is rarely if ever tied into the SG-1 mythos. If you remove all the stargate references and replace them with something similar, then the levels of acting would have been able to shine past the automatic hate these 2 camps had for it, which with all their rabble rousing helped to prevent people from giving it a chance.

Like it or not, the show was by no means great, But it is leaps and bounds more interesting than most of the garbage on SciFi that does succeed. Seriously.. how the hell did Haven get renewed without a second thought, but shows like SGU are forced to struggle?

It also doesnt help that Scifi has no clue what they are doing. I understood why they cancelled caprica, honestly between the second prequel series and the twilight-esque approach to BSG lore and the whole "Lets build up hype for a year, then show only half a season, then put it on hold for 6 friggen months" would never work out. But In the face of lagging ratings from the show, they take it off the air.. and replace it with 15 year old episodes of Star trek TNG? Granted 1-3 million viewers in primetime isnt great, but come on.. Do you really think your going to get more than .5 million viewers for a 15 year old rerun?

I think the biggest problem is with the direction that BSG took the network, it gave people a glimmer of hope, thinking that the network might have finally matured beyond its "Scifi original pictures presents: Sharktopus 2: Wrath of natural disasters" period, but it didnt take long to see that BSG being a hit beyond the networks fanbase was just a fluke.

I got that much I just didn't understand how said sarcasm related to my post. I talk about lost potential and he goes on about executives.

Also yeah Viranamus, I just wonder how they would have gotten them on the ship and to alien planets without the existing series technology. Maybe it should have been further removed and to Stargate as Torchwood was to Doctor Who. Technology is shared but no direct references.

First of all, I loved SG1 and Atlantis and watched all of SGU just to support the Stargate franchise.

This is so close to being a huge disappointment. SGU had a handful of interesting characters and the perfect setting in which to explore them. If only they had given Rush and Eli meaningful character arcs instead of focusing on the one-dimensional characters like Matt and Chloe.
Agreed. It always felt like they spend to much time with the wrong characters/plots. On the other hand, there were some good parts.

well to be honest season 2 had a few moments that it just kind of rushed to.
This, too. Especially how quickly they finished the Ginn/Eli story arch :(

I like how people say it was shit just after it was getting good. If the show was gonna be axed it should been axed last season before it started to get decent and killed off some of the more pointless characters and some of the pointless love triangles are abandoned or resolved. Yes it was not original Star Gate and it was more inline with something like Galactica but I don't what is wrong with that. It is a spin off not main SG1 it is ok for it to go in other directions.
Kinda true. The show was getting much better from when it started. So a third Season has some potential. I'll keep my fingers crossed. Especially since the cancelation does not bring us SG1/Atlantis back, but will probably leave us with no Stargate whatsoever :(

I liked the movie, I liked SG-1, didn't like atlantis much, and didn't like SGU at all. Maybe I'm old fashioned, but I like my heroes to BE heroes. Dr McKay was irritating, and Rush puts everyone in danger for a little information. Not my idea of heroes!

SGU was just too emo for my tastes. I'll support it, though, out of devotion to the series as a whole.

See that is one of the main reasons I continue to support it. If this one goes bust Star Gate might go bust completely and we might end up with a Star Trek kinda scenario on our hands.

Ninja'd. I thought it was decent in the first few episodes before duck-billed girl (chloe?) and the blonde soldier guy started boning. Then the show changed attitudes/styles/what-have-you pretty quickly. Also, they made Eli useless and unlikable very quickly. Ooooh ooh and one more thing, stop putting crappy music videos in every episode. You know the times where they have long close ups on the people being sad or whatever and they cue the music.

Get your petty human drama outta my science fiction and have an over encompassing arc like Babylon 5.

Glad it was canceled.

I'm surprised it even lasted 2 seasons. I really wanted to like it. I watched the 1st 3 episodes, but I couldn't stand the horrible writing!!! I don't mean it wasn't to my liking. I mean the plot holes & the breaks in logic were immense & plentiful. I don't mind them wanting to do Stargate in a new way, but at least have writing that doesn't make me roll my eyes or facepalm several times an episode.

The ship's been flying for, what, a million years before they boarded it, but darn their luck, they got on it when there was just a couple days worth of air left. What are the odds? Oh, and they're almost completely out of energy too, of course.
I didn't mind the use of the stones, but I couldn't believe these highly trained professionals, (that are so professional they were entrusted with the top secret knowledge of the stargate program,) were so amazingly unprofessional when using the stones & someone else's body to visit Earth.
"Hey, let's go party at a bar, get totally wasted, & let the volunteer deal with the hangover." This scene didn't even fit in SGU.
"I miss my estranged wife. I think I'll have sex with her with this borrowed body. She won't be too weirded out by the whole thing to not do it."

It's been too long for me to remember any of the other bad writing moments... thankfully.
