Any of the Dawn of War series, KOTOR, any of the Civ games, Killing Floor, Spore, Fallout 3, Borderlands, ect.

These's tons of crap there, if you spend a little time looking you can find some real jewels.

The L4D series, the Half Life series, TF2, Portal...
Well, I guess the Orange Box and L4D would be a good start.

Yes, I guess I just really like Valve's games. Deal with it.

The Left 4 Dead series, The Orange Box, Modern Warfare 2 (don't hit me please, I have the Steam version and it works for me) and... Counter-Strike: Source, eh?

I already have STALKER :)

There's lots of suggestions here - thanks guys, what do people think about buying Dragon Age and is the Digital Deluxe Version of Mass Effect 2 worth it?

Mount and Blade.

There's no reason to get anything else.

Or any Elder Scrolls.

Or a total war game(medieval 2 or rome)

Ignore me at your own peril. Though you'll remain safe if you get Team fortress.

Can someone tell me some really good PC games which I can purchase from Steam? I have Mass Effect 2 for my Xbox 360 but I am debating weather or not I should buy it for PC too.
Just have some patience and bookmark my thread

Seriously wait for sales I can't tell you how many times I was impatient only to foam at the mouth to see it on sale the next day. You think I would learn but sometimes I just can't wait. xD

Company of heroes is a great cheap game on steam. But if you want a game on steam, wait for it to go on sale, they eventually do pretty quick.

I have Left 4 Dead 2 on my Xbox (I had the first one too) but I sucks because the host always leaves - and there is no element of teamwork etc.
You'll come across ragequitters and harassers in the PC version too. But they're in the rarity. I think the L4D series has one of the nice communities on the PC. Oh and, it uses dedicated servers.
This is what annoyed me about L4D. No matter what you left for, everyone whined "ragequitter". Yeah, because when I went to eat, got bored, or you know, went outside to hang out with my friends, I was really rage quitting...

OT: Stalker series. If you get either Shadow of Chernobyl and/or Clear Sky off Steam, you can get the new Call of Pripyat for only $20. Half Life 2 series is pretty awesome too, but I mostly just play single player games.

Personally, I never got into TF2.

Portal may be a puzzle game, but its one of the best games I've ever played.

The Orange Box
Half-Life 1 series
Audiosurf, it is actually really entertaining when you've got nothing to do.
Left 4 Dead

I'll see if I can come up with more.

Psychonauts and Team Fortress 2

there's a lot of fun games on steam, but Psychonauts is a "you have to play this once in your life, or you'll never forgive yourself", and in addition to be friggin hilarious, TF2 on PC updates with new stuff close to every other month (they've had a little dryspell right now, but I'm crossing fingers for a Meet The Pyro vid and a engie update :)

Team Fortress 2 is a must have game, endless re playability and constant updates as well as a new engineer class update in the future.

TF2 is the most fun I've had with an FPS game.

Left 4 Dead 2 is also great fun, but make sure you have always at least one person you know in the game. Ragequitting kids are a real problem in that game. Often when someone gets killed they quit instantly. Or if the whole team gets wiped, everyone leaves.

Beyond Good & Evil is an amazing game and super cheap. If you want an adventure/puzzle/stealth game, this is what you must get.

I'm definitely going to add my vote to the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic games. Definitely worth every penny, and they're not that expensive (I think I saw KotOR for about 9?).

KotoR 1&2 definately...if you can get them to work on vista or later. My copy of KotoR2 doesn't work if the sound is enabled...and without the sound effects...well it rather takes away from the enjoyment of the game.
