0/10 No visible dicks in sight... Oh wait... The dick was that one tsundere chick I had to hook up with that yandere chick because sparks were bound to fly both literally and figuratively... On second thought, 8/10 Too many dick moments... :p

Other than that, just like with Alignment You! You!, you had me at "ghost schoolgirl"... :p

There's an emotionally retarded weeaboo inside all of us. Now on Steam. How could this particular story, judging by the summary, ever be considered mature is beyond me.

Meh, it would be more newsworthy if we knew what kind of content there was in the game. I'm all for some hawt girl on girl, but things with the "Yuri" label usually aren't usually all that "hardcore" to begin with. Release something like say "Lightning Warrior Raidy 2" uncensored (it's almost entirely girl on girl) and then it might be noteworthy. I haven't played this one (my interest in this type of game is minimal) but I wouldn't be surprised if the news basically amounts to Gabe letting a game that might just barely push an "R" or maybe even as far down as a high end PG-13 get through uncensored for sexual content.

STEAM isn't someplace I go looking for "the sexy", but I figure if they want to broaden their appeal they should at least try and do it right. I'd almost suspect they decided to start here because it's "Yuri" and they can play the PC card a lot more than if they decided to do one of the many "randy school boy gets a summer job "training" maids" type games. Almost guaranteed that has to be the plot of some hentai game somewhere too.

If Gabe wants to impress he would instead flex his massive muscle to get Fallout 4 here early. I'm as pervy as the next guy but I'd prefer that to even truly hot girl-on-ghost lesbian action..., which I'm guessing this won't be. "Yes Sayaka-chan a surprise, I brought this 32" double strap on from the afterlife just for you... it vibrates with the power of a million erotic souls!"... probably not in this game. :)

bringing porn to the masses?
Start out soft, give em lesbians first, lesbians are always okay, that always works.

Snark aside, I do think having an actual 18+ game market would be a good thing, mark it properly so people don't wander into it accidentally.

I for one see only good things with uncensored yuri games on Steam. Time has proven that yuri as love and yuri is life so sign me the fuck up.

Also this is one step closer to having a possible (but very improbable) Steam release of Monster Girl Quest and I would love nothing more. Try and tell me eroge games cannot have a good story or have genuinely tear jerking moments after that, you naysayers!

MGQ is an eroge game where I honestly would have liked less porn CGs and some major plot CGs instead. Just one at the end of Chapter 2 would have been nice.

A shot of Luka pointing his sword at an enraged Illias as he begins his rebellion would have been the hypest thing ever

Visual Novels can have their own art style / take on the atmosphere, but you're only going to get so far with lewdness. In order to make your game memorable (especially under the Visual Novel category because ... you know, it's just a frame-by-frame slideshow with choices to choose from to see the next set of frame-by-frame slideshows) so you need a reason for us to be invested.

If I wanted to look up hentai / porn, i'd just Google it. I want a Visual Novel that really makes me care about the characters, the situations the protagonist finds themselves in, and so forth. It doesn't have to be as serious as Katawa Shoujo was, yet ... it would certainly mean a lot to get the same vibe, as in seeing how much effort was put into this game.

Then again it's mainly about getting two ghosts to have lesbian sex so ... hmm, not entirely sure what progression we'll see apart from comedy and / or lewd aspects.
Why is Katawa Shoujo getting name dropped everywhere? Is it the only VN anyone knows around these parts or something because erotic or lewd is the last thing I would ever call that game. I'd namedrop Grisaia No Kaijitsu (that's The Fruit of Grisaia on Steam, buy now beat the rush) over KS if you want to talk good VNs with sex scenes. Someone else referenced G-String but that's a mystery story with like one sex scene. Well, one canon sex scene because every route that isn't Haru's is a filthy lie.

Maybe Comyu works as an example too? There's random sex in that too but fucked if I wasn't invested in the characters. Even if Saejima's Route was depressing as balls and I ended up despising her entire existence. They had two lighthearted/comedic routes unlocked immediately afterwards to cool everything down for fuck sake. I mean it succeeded because Mayuki is (second) Based Girl and then moved right onto the True Ending with Based Girl Kagome but Saejima's Route could have honestly stopped me from continuing the rest of the game.

On the other hand, porn? On Steam? Oh yeah, that's not going to get abused royally, no.
To be honest from the looks of things this game probably doesn't go much further, or any further at all, than other games on STEAM. I'd be surprised for example of the sex scenes are any better than a Bioware game. That said they have had scenes of you banging hookers in games like Gothic 2 (on STEAM, very dated and disturbing looking now) and all kinds of stuff so I doubt this is going to light the world on fire for adult content.

Besides they have that Amazon Princess game from Winter Wolves, the name eludes me even though I have a copy of it (from the company) Lorna Amazon Princess or something like that. It's actually a pretty solid RPG, but it includes a lot of sex and stuff in it, including a lot of Girl on Girl. I don't have the STEAM version but I believe it wasn't censored. The point is that this is less newsworthy than you'd think, it's simply that this is probably the first game they are releasing where the nudity/sex is the point/payoff for the game even if it's going for more of a slow, romantic, presentation than most hentai games that bombard you with the sex and kink non-stop as the entire point. You know, games where you might say play as the principal of an all girls school with a discipline problem, so you abduct all of the worst cases who are of course uniformly lovely and keep them prisoner in the S&M dungeon in the basement to "reform" them. We forget about things like parents, police, or the illegality of the situation because too much plot would get in the way.... not that I've ever played such a game mind you, but I'm sure it comes close to the plot of something out there... oh and no worries in these Japanese games they ensure you all the models are supposed to be 18+ on the intro menu, so of course it's always a college. :)

The final part of my joke above does make me wonder though, if this game does have uncensored sex, what age are the characters in it? From what little I've seen they do seem quite young, but then again it is anime. I'm guessing Gaben is going to be careful but given how hilarious the whole "everyone is supposed to be 18+" thing can get with some hentai (all kidding aside) and Gabe isn't a shovelware dealer looking for quick sales, but it does make me curious, along with how many adults might be involved in this storyline.

Well STEAM does already carry "M" rated games, and honestly most porn wouldn't even hit the "R" rating if people fought for proper ratings which they fairly do. M and R being pretty much the same thing. The requirement to go above an R rating is to show actual penetration (though it's okay to imply it). My initial guess here is that if challenged this game likely isn't to show any actual penetration (even if it's implied) and thus will be defensible as not being a true "adult" product and simply be like their other "M" rated games. That's a guess at any rate.

I have my doubts as to whether STEAM will ever carry true "Adult Material" because that would require them to be a lot more assertive with their ID checking and such, which I'm not sure your average user will go for. Not to mention that all jokes about "Greenlight" and the flood of garbage on STEAM aside, I just don't think there are any "Adult Only" games that are any good. Unless Gaben is going to turn Valve to making porno games and show the world how it's done, he'd probably just flood his service with even more shovelware. All joking about plots and such aside, one of the reasons why I don't play "adult" games is that they are garbage, I'm old enough where if I want porn I can get it legally, and I'll do better getting it other ways than through video games which as an erotic medium have been an epic fail... unless maybe if your Japanese, since they seem to keep creating and selling most of the games.

I suppose things might change if there was a quality distribution service like STEAM for adult games, that might draw in some developers, but even so, this is one area where I don't think a video game can compete with a straight video, as laughable attempts at sexual interaction through a computer are just that "oooh Therumancer click me harder... ooh yes, right click, right click, right click now LEFT CLICK oh god yes....".

I've been someone who has argued for more in depth sex scenes and such in other kinds of video games, but largely as a sideline to a bigger well... game, not as the entire point. Better sex scenes with your companion/lovers in say Bioware games would be a plus, a better payoff for all the work, but trying to make an entire game out of just that... well maybe it's just me but I've never seen it succeed, and truthfully I can't envision a non true VR situation where an entire game based on sex is likely to be more than a bad, and perhaps disturbing, joke. It doesn't translate well enough to stand on it's own.

I didn't know what yuri was (I honestly thought it was related to Red Alert from the title), but I'm all for adults being able to choose what to buy/not buy, do/not do or ignore altogether.

Katawa Shoujo is a liberal darling due to the subject matter and was covered here on The Escapist, and even had some comic stripes and stuff done about it if I remember, thus it's one of the few that this particular crowd is familiar with. It doesn't surprise me that the name re-curs and some people might be trying to play expert with the one name they know. All my jokes aside, I'm a perv, but not a big hentai consumer in any flavor nowadays so I'm no expert, the things I could mention I'm familiar with from my "phase" would be horribly dated now and to be honest doesn't include many video games because as I pointed out I find that erotica as the point of a video game doesn't work well. If someone did something like "Lightning Warrior Raidy" with a better game engine behind it and more thought that might be decent, but sadly the people doing porn games rarely seem to want to put much effort in. Visual novels, erotic or otherwise, are not something I've been into, if I was younger I might have been though as they seem to be the evolution of the various "Choose Your Own Adventure" novels I loved as a kid. Perhaps if my Christian beliefs are wrong and I reincarnate they are something I'll appreciate in the youth of my next go-round.

Hey, I namedropped Shiawase no Katachi (Figures of Happiness). Don't I get some street cred? ;_;

I gotta admit, his response made me lol my ass off regardless.

OT: I've mixed feelings about this. One the one hand, I am a giant perv who thinks that what video games need is a hell of a lot more kinky sex and a good platform to deliver it. On the other hand, Steam is already a giant mess full of so many low quality games I have to wade through them. What we need, I think, is a Steam dedicated to adult games. That way I can search for pervy stuff when I'm in the mood but not have to be flooded with it when I just wanna see what seven new walking simulators came out this week.

Yeah, that explanation didn't work when I tried to explain why I had Katawa Shoujo either.
I'm mainly confused because I've never associated the words "cheap" and "Katawa Shoujo" together. Unless you specifically meant the money sense.
It's not what I really think of it (I love it to death, and cried a lot when I played it), but nobody is going to buy 4chan producing something emotionally deep when asked precisely what I thought I was playing.

So does that open the doors to all porn games? I do wonder where they are going with this.
And if they are in for the full scope there is a flood coming that no valve can stop... seriously Valve you need some proper filters before this shit happens.

Oh we're both spot on. Everyone here seems to be "Yes, yuri!", when nobody is looking at the actual context of what this game really is. This is children, which look in their young teens, having sex in a school because of "ghosts". And they want to call this a video game? Really? Up their age to 18+ and put it at an all-girls college and it would be okay. But it is not.

I've already contacted Steam requesting the title not be put on the platform and instead be removed from their future title list because of the context of the content within it.

That's not even full on explicitness. That's mostly just breast. There were already games with breast on Steam. And there were already a lot of games with the homosex relations on Steam. This is not exactly a big jump.

Lolwat? Naughty context? It's all ink anime. lighten up.

They've already allowed Hatred FFS. The game where you go around brutally murdering innocents just 'cuz. You're crazy and everyone needs to die. How's that for context.

Don't get your hopes up . They said nothing would be cut out but that doesn't exactly say what was in the game to begin with. It says Same sex relationships, but as said.. could just be a clever marketing play on words. Last I checked even in japan these games typically required a fair amount of censorship. what with mosaics and all.
True, but i believe Japan's laws allow for uncensored porn if its only for foreign consumption.

Umm, these are all children. In an erotic novel. I believe that most people (including the police) in my country still frown heavily upon that sort of thing. Eh, I know other countries have different age limits for their marriage laws, but that makes this no less creepy. Am I the only one that notices this? Or is bothered by it? Well, not completely bothered as there are worse versions of these things, but slightly bemused and disturbed...besturbed, you might even say. Behe!

Ok, i'll see myself out.
