Haha, you nailed it. That made me chuckle.Danzaivar said:That English are stuffy and ponces.

Exactly, stereotypes have to come from somewhere. If there weren't a few people to whom the stereotype applied, then it wouldn't exist.Del-Toro said:No stereotype is completely wrong, there will always be a few people who fit into it.Mezzamine said:Aren't all stereotypes wrong? Umm...not to puncture any balloons or anything, but drink culture -is- a pretty big part of a night out in Ireland, I know we're not a country made entirely of drunks, but I've never found it to be too far off from that image, especially among the teenage section. ^^' Seriously, go into Dublin city at 6.00 or 7.00 in the morning. You won't be hard pressed to find pools of vomit and the the stench and detritus of a 'good night out'. Then again, I'm sure lots of cities in the world have the same problem.Sky Captanio said:Well acording to your profile you're American.Cliff_m85 said:I'm Irish, trust me....we are. There's a difference between enjoying a good drink and getting hammered every night. The Infamous Scamola said:Exactly. And you irish do enjoy a good drink, stop lying.Mezzamine said:Aren't all stereotypes wrong? I thought that's why they were stereotypes.
Fellow Georgian! If you live anywhere near a city in the south, then almost none of the stereotypes are active. The Bandit said:No stereotype is wrong. All of them have basis. The only time it's wrong is when you make the assumption that every member of that particular group fits the stereotype.
For example, I live in Georgia. I do not hunt, fish, eat jerky, enjoy NASCAR, or have intimate relationships with my sister. But I'd be a complete liar if I said that there aren't Southerners who do all of those things. Except the incest. That's completely ridiculous. The same goes for Irish, Scots, Jews, video gamers, teenagers, fat people, white people, black people, Hispanics, every thing else.
Quit crying about how "OMG GAMERS AREN'T FAT, SWEATY NERDS" because there are plenty of fat and sweaty nerds.
Very true.Mezzamine said:Aren't all stereotypes wrong? I thought that's why they were stereotypes.

Well I'm Irish and I don't drink full stop so you can't speak for everyone either way some are some aren't.Cliff_m85 said:I'm Irish, trust me....we are.
No you silly person. They're stereotypes because they're commonly observed and hold true at least 51% of the time. Otherwise, new stereotypes would evolve to replace them.Mezzamine said:Aren't all stereotypes wrong? I thought that's why they were stereotypes.

Seems to be a fairly popular national pastime. And that's just dandy =DCliff_m85 said:I'm Irish, trust me....we are.
Haha, that's a good one too.PirateKing said:That reminded me of my favorite Willie/Skinner moment.G1eet said:WHO THE FUCK'S BEEN SPREADING AROUND THE BONNY DAFT IDEA THAT SCOTS GET ANGRY EASILY?
Heheh, reminds me of that one Simpsons episode:
Groundskeeper Willie: It won't last. Brothers and sisters are natural enemies! Like Englishmen and Scots! Or Welshmen and Scots! Or Japanese and Scots! Or Scots and other Scots! Damn Scots! They ruined Scotland!
Principal Skinner: You Scots sure are a contentious people.
Willie: You just made an enemy for life!
Skinner walks into the school. Willie is sharpening a knife.
Skinner: Willie, you heard about the budget cuts, right?
Willie: Oh, there'll be many a cut this year.
Yes, I am religious. But saying that on this forum usually makes people look at you as if you're Jim Jones. I know that in America Christianty has some WEIRD branches, like Jesus camp and whatnot. But in Holland Christians are very sober people that don't make to big a deal about there beliefs. The most extreme Christian you see here is a curtious Jehova's witness who'll bug you every year or so.z121231211 said:Are you religious? "When you're religious you are an idiot how can't think for himself." Wich is a lie because NO ONE can think for themselves.
no, A stereotype is a type of logical oversimplification in which all the members of a class or set are considered to be definable by an easily distinguishable set of characteristics (qouted from wiki). They are exagerated from truth, not just made up.Mezzamine said:Aren't all stereotypes wrong? I thought that's why they were stereotypes.
