Unfortunately the south is where most of the stereotypes about us come from, cause most of the time thats the only place foreigners ever visit, and because our media is London centered. Ahh well, us Midlands people and Northerners will just have to deal with it I suppose

No stereotype is completely wrong, there will always be a few people who fit into it.

Exactly, stereotypes have to come from somewhere. If there weren't a few people to whom the stereotype applied, then it wouldn't exist.

There's a difference between enjoying a good drink and getting hammered every night.

Umm...not to puncture any balloons or anything, but drink culture -is- a pretty big part of a night out in Ireland, I know we're not a country made entirely of drunks, but I've never found it to be too far off from that image, especially among the teenage section. ^^' Seriously, go into Dublin city at 6.00 or 7.00 in the morning. You won't be hard pressed to find pools of vomit and the the stench and detritus of a 'good night out'. Then again, I'm sure lots of cities in the world have the same problem.

No stereotype is wrong. All of them have basis. The only time it's wrong is when you make the assumption that every member of that particular group fits the stereotype.

For example, I live in Georgia. I do not hunt, fish, eat jerky, enjoy NASCAR, or have intimate relationships with my sister. But I'd be a complete liar if I said that there aren't Southerners who do all of those things. Except the incest. That's completely ridiculous. The same goes for Irish, Scots, Jews, video gamers, teenagers, fat people, white people, black people, Hispanics, every thing else.

Quit crying about how "OMG GAMERS AREN'T FAT, SWEATY NERDS" because there are plenty of fat and sweaty nerds.

Fellow Georgian! If you live anywhere near a city in the south, then almost none of the stereotypes are active.

There's this one stereotype in Norway that all Pakistani/Afghan people inevitably open up kebob shops in the streets. I have no fucking clue where that's coming from.

The stereotype that black people LOVE fried chicken. I understand most of the other ones, but this ones just stupid. EVERYONE LIKES FRIED CHICKEN, except those weird vegetarians.

I'm actually the LEAST stereotypical black guy I know. I don't play basketball, (or any other sports except swimming) I'm not failing school, not in a gang, don't live in the ghetto (which might explain the previous 3 statements) and I don't talk like this: "Yo what up, dawg. I jus be chillin' at mah crib right now, ima hitcha up layta, peace out, home fry!"
oh yeah, and I like video games, and im on forums, writing coherently.

But what bothers me is that almost all the blacks I meet at school seems to live religously by their stereotypes, so most of my friends at school are white/asian.

my most annoying one is that all musclular and/or fat people are really stupid, or really intelligent. I always get people looking at my when we play sports, like "oh hes gonna be a pushover, so slow and fat he must be an idiot!" But i am be no means of vast intelligence but i do alright, i mean some days i cant remeber how to spell cheese and the next i can do algebraic exuations in my head before the teacher even has time to work it.
On the flip side, they think oh he's rubbish at sports he must be really smart. :/ So infuriating when you get something wrong even teahers go "i tohught you were one of the smart ones" FUUUUUUCK YOOOOOOOOOOUUUUUUUU

Yes, I am religious. But saying that on this forum usually makes people look at you as if you're Jim Jones. I know that in America Christianty has some WEIRD branches, like Jesus camp and whatnot. But in Holland Christians are very sober people that don't make to big a deal about there beliefs. The most extreme Christian you see here is a curtious Jehova's witness who'll bug you every year or so.

no, A stereotype is a type of logical oversimplification in which all the members of a class or set are considered to be definable by an easily distinguishable set of characteristics (qouted from wiki). They are exagerated from truth, not just made up.
oh also, i'm Irish and yes, there is alot of drinking in this country.
