The moment I see a timer, all fun is instantly drained.
And as for my own choice,
It would have to be Escort missions....in general.
And any water based level in any Zelda game.zehydra said:The water temple in Ocarina of time

I still am baffled why game designers think putting a incompetent (usually) CPU in our selfish control is a good idea.
Looking out for someone else in a video game proves to be gamers downfall...
At least to me =D

Dom's utterly shit AI made the game one big escort mission
Heh, instead I enter Bayjin with both RPCs and leave RFS in the area just until I can escort Glumph to safety. Release RPC? Not if I can help it, these two are too good. And yes, I meant the sorceress fight as a reward(which would be a whole lot easier without the Death Lords), and the third one is Don Barlone! I mean, I usually kill him around lvl 12 and it's a blast seeing him dodge 15 attacks in a row until I finally get a hit inNeutralDrow said:"How did we end up here? But we have to give credit to Nessie for being one of the two, maybe three truly difficult and rewarding fights in a game, that's otherwise attrition-based(and I'm certainly not counting the final fight among those - the Savant is a wimp compared to Nessie!)NeutralDrow said:Hmm...gotta admit, much as I love Wizardry 8, I hate, hate, hate Bayjin and underwater caves. I actually never considered doing that to Vi. I mean, naturally not for Bayjin (I leave that RPC slot open for Sergeant Glumph), but to get her into Rapax Rift I always just used the T'rang portal, and for the Sea Caves I use a couple of portal spells. Still...makes one really appreciate RFS-81, huh?
And yeah, I certainly won't disagree on that, difficult or rewarding; hooray for Excalibur! Usual tactics for me are every buffing spell I know beforehand (except Haste, stupid "no fire spell" prohibition), equip everyone with healing potions and resurrection powder, enter combat and charge before Nessie realizes you're there, start casting Soul/Element Shield, Bless, and Superman, and pray fervently. Occasionally, I only win because she beats on me so much that she falls unconscious...
I'm just not as fond of the fight because it's the one I routinely have to reload and try again. I rarely have to do that with, say, the Sorceress fight (I'm assuming that's one of the others you were talking about?). Or even the Rapax army fight...though that one wasn't especially rewarding. Unless you count finally killing that annoying Rapax Prince.
It's okay, they get to share their bromance in the next game. Let snake get laid when he can get laid. He's earned it.8-Bit_Jack said:But... but... HAL! and DAVE! The ultimate BROMANCE!
Ah, yeah, I forgot about him. I think that "only able to hit him once in a while" aspect is why I tend to just pay out of pocket for the Astral Dominae and forget he exists (and I rarely create Fairy Ninjas, so the Cane of Corpus isn't usually a worthwhile weapon). And the thing I remember most about the Rapax are the huge numbers of fireballs that come my way before I get Element Shield up, or watching my party waste ammo against Missile Shields...stupid templars.Galad said:Heh, instead I enter Bayjin with both RPCs and leave RFS in the area just until I can escort Glumph to safety. Unless you count finally killing that annoying Rapax Prince. As for the Rapax Army fight, that one is rewarding in a different sense - it's wonderful to see your mage hit for hundreds of damage with a single spell for once, or kill more than a couple of enemies with a Death Wish(priest)/Asphyxiation..
Close quarters means Nessie is able to do physical attacks more often, and those I can deal with (it's the spells that are the dangerous part). More melee attacks all around means she gets tired quicker from hitting and dodging, and as long as I have Rest All and a Dulcimer of Mending, I can last as long as the magic nectar holds out (or if I'm using the Christian Coder mod, as long as I have a mana stone).and wow, Nessie down to 0 stamina? I've never had that happen, how did you prolong this battle that much at close quarters?
Very much agreed, but I've got an even better one:MiracleOfSound said:ANY time I see a timer.

Oh god... the room with the spikes on a timer... and you have to kick the boxes into place to jump up out of the way...Sonicron said:Very much agreed, but I've got an even better one:MiracleOfSound said:ANY time I see a timer.

You know those moments when there's a timer running, and you know it's running in the background (due to the sound of a clock ticking with increasing speed) but you can't see it? Those are even worse. I just replayed God of War today and off the top of my head I can name at least four extremely bothersome puzzles with said gimmick.
... and that'd be the king (and queen) of all annoying timer puzzles in recent gaming history. And you wouldn't even be safe once you're on top of the box, because the spikes would annihilate it anyway (along with your squishy fleshy body).MiracleOfSound said:Oh god... the room with the spikes on a timer... and you have to kick the boxes into place to jump up out of the way...Sonicron said:Very much agreed, but I've got an even better one:MiracleOfSound said:ANY time I see a timer.
