Stop all the COD Hate

I've barely been part of this community that long and I've already seen this thread far too many times.
Why are people still posting this thread? It contributes nothing and starts way more flamewars than the subject is worth. I enjoy me some CoD, others don't. Why do we need to make a big deal about it?

Second off, I'll hate myself for admitting it, but CoD is good at times... It's just not my cup of tea, and the fanbase is annoying to me.

this. CoD is at times a fantastic, energetic, hectic fast paced multiplayer experience. the problem is that at worst it is a group of 12 year olds screaming into microphones and hiding in corners.
The business model is obviously atrocious but hey its activision.

In brief, the movie adaptation of "At The Mountains of Madness" was denied a green light even though all the necessary components were in place. Everything was ready to go, but Universal Studios pulled out. They didn't have the money to be taking chances with the movie because all of their other risky projects, Scott Pilgrim vs The World for example, performed horribly at the box office. Fast and the Furious 4, however, performed spectacularly.

Off-topic but, At The Mountains of Madness would not make a very good movie.

3/4ths or more of the story is the two scientists just wandering around making observations about the alien frescos painted along the walls. When they finally encounter the Shoggoth, they run in fear back to the plane.

Unfortunately this wouldn't make for a blockbuster.

I've seen dozens of threads from people whining about "CoD hate", but I don't think I've ever actually seen a thread dedicated specifically to "CoD hate"... not once.

There was one by a guy saying he didn't care about CoD, but not that he hated it.

And no, we won't stop the hate, CoD sucks, it's BROKEN, has SHIT MULTIPLAYER, TEDIOUS SINGLE PLAYER (one enemy type and no breaks in the action), OUTRIGHT RETARDED STORYTELLING (Mason may not be a mute arsewhole, but that only makes him worse, at lease mutes aren't FUCKING ANNOYING) and is HORRIBLY PACED.

I've already given it too many chances, MW2 was enjoyable, but not worth it's price, Black Ops was just plain bad, and MW3 STILL hasn't gotten rid of second chance.

Oh there doesn't need to be a dedicated thread towards CoD Hate, they just go into any COD topic (whether it is about the hate or not) and hate on it. Hell it could be about, whats your favorite cameo, and the haters would STILL jump into the thread.

OP: You clearly missed the entire point why people dislike MW2, BO, MW3 and it really isn't because its aimed at "casuals". For a lot of people (and i think this is one of the more rational reasons to hate the series) the impact that the mechanics, quality, marketing, and yearly release has on the video game industry. It has record breaking sales each yearly release when it refuses to fix the issues of the past and adds little to nothing to make it worth being a new iteration instead of it just being a weapon, game mode, and map pack (aka Guitar Hero syndrome).

It makes gamers look like sheep with wallets who will fork over more cash for a yearly remake and shows that being innovative in game design is not worth the risk when you can copy + paste to get profit. A lot of gamers want new and different gameplay experiences instead of the same mechanics, same D- plots, and brown on gray color schemes.

This is kinda why the indy game trend has grown so much because people want games that aren't AAA clones of each other.

Well good for you, thats great, but you know you else plays COD games, that guy who only has an XBOX or PS3 for the damn COD series.

In short, don't take the COD series, seriously, they are what they are to sell, and make money. If the color blue sells 10x more than the color green, wouldn't you sell more blue than green?

i don't dislike the game i just get annoyed how its turn into a re-relathon of the same game with a few tweaks, i don't make threads clameing its the worst game ever i just don't buy the game
i have the same gripe with Dynasty warriors,Madden and a few others i simply dont buy it when i have basically the same game alredy

Hehe...its not hypocrisy. Skyrim is just a better game. So much better than CoD. Its like comparing current pop music drivel banged out assembly-line style to satisfy the great majority to Bach or Mozart. Or comparing a great work of literature like the Odyssey or Hamlet to the Twilight books.

That said, its not like Skyrim went without its fair share of hate.

CoD hasn't changed in three installments. Its a sad commentary on the gaming community that it can be as popular as it is. Although according to the steam numbers...Skyrim is a hell of a lot more popular than CoD at the moment.

I could very well say the same about all the Skyrim threads. Hey, rather than having a thread for your favourite moment where you sit on your ass and let an ogre kill a dragon, a thread for what hideous character you made for yourself, a thread for what weapon you love to use that everyone and their dog has, a thread for why you have't bought skyrim yet, ETC ETC ETC, make one thread, in which each person defines their favourite parts of their own experience? Rather than having a bunch of threads that hardly matter since online pretty well doesn't exist and no one will ever be affected by anyone else's playing experience in the first place.

Oh right. It's because you're all swimming in your own thick opaque hypocrisy to see it.

Hating something popular won't make it stop being popular as long as the average mark doesn't know any better. It's a futile effort.

Good sense and fair criticism failed to even put a dent in the Twilight fad (as I typed this, I just saw a commercial citing Breaking Dawn as "The best of the Twilight movies", and all I could think of was, "So this time it's just a suppository instead of a full prostate exam.")

It failed to stop Michael Bay from making ludicrous amounts of money by raping my generation's childhood.

It failed to keep auto-tuner pretty boys and stupid, shallow cunts from reaching #1 on the radio.

Now, it has failed to keep a mediocre rehash of a 3 year old game from breaking sales records and further pushing the industry to churn out yet more boring, brown shooters.

And while one can try to hand-wave all of that away with the "subjective" clause, we all know that we can do better.
But we don't. We don't even try to do better.

I love how people think that the game has to change with each installment.

Lets ignore the possibility that the devs might have just been giving a damn about the people who actually enjoyed the game, and so they decided not to change much in order to keep a similar experience for them. You know, something they are pretty darn sure will be enjoyed by fans? So sorry that they didn't go out of their way to impress people who probably wouldn't enjoy it either way but changing it and thus possibly losing previous fans.

I don't hate CoD, I enjoy it a lot (For the singleplayer mostly, I know we are rare but I don't have the internet nor the time for the multiplayer) but I do hate Activision for insane pricing and not giving money to innovate, so I just don't buy the games anymore like a good unhappy consumer. I think a lot of the hardcore gamer hate is misdirected and then a lot of it is 'IT'S POPULAR IT MUST BE TERRIBLE HERP DERP I AM THE ANTICHIST'

i think cod is a fun game, its just a shame its only like 4 or 5 hours long. oh the multiplayer? well as far as doing the same thing over and over again goes, yeah the cod multiplayer cant be beat. seriously though, the last cod game i played was 4 and i really liked the single player, especially the chernobyl mission. problem is, the multiplayer mode gets old pretty fast because theres no variety. i keep hoping for a cod game with a solid lengthy single player, but no such luck

From what I've seen, CoD hate is less "stop liking what I don't like" and more "this game has XYZ flaws that make it less enjoyable, and these flaws are not fixed between installments." A lot of vocal critics of various CoD mechanics (myself included) are also people who played one or more of the more recent games, and had fun doing so.

EDIT: of course, the game's community isn't doing it any favors publicity-wise, either - generally, when people are ripping on CoD players, they're in fact ripping on a specific subset of CoD players [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Bc1FCoe7ls].

I own Skyrim, and I like it, but that is way over kill. Your hyping it to the point it will disappointing to everyone except fanboy's.

OT: I'm not sure if I should hate COD. It doesn't directly bother me, and they do what they're supposed to do well. It's just, it's pathetic that they dish it out roughly the same game as the last every year with a pretty short campaign, and this is coming from a million maker. Also, I think their continuous milking and popularity is having a negative impact on the gaming industry because I'm sure most company's would love to get away with stuff like that (so lets try and make a FPS just as good and pretty much the same).

It's the principals I have that you won't understand. I really think they could do a whole lot better with COD and actually attempt something interesting. However, the fanboy's just want to play it safe and keep it the same forever so trying something unique is out of the question.
