the theory makes sense, but having played on both XBL and PSN I would have to say that it doesn't work out. I have been playing alot of Resistance 2 co-op and multiplayer lately and its very rare that I run into anyone acting stupid or team killing. However, on Halo 3 I have had numerous rounds ruined for me by a jackass screaming at me or others over his mic.Crunchy English said:So there's this new theory floating around, I saw it on GT's Bonus Round, and in the shop where I work. Apparently, PSN being free is actually detracting from the experience. The idea goes like this:
People don't pay to play on PSN, and therefore it is difficult to deny them the privilege. Basically, a one month ban on XBL is costing you money and the threat of that ban keeps people in line. Without anything at risk on the network, people behave even WORSE than they do on Xbox Live. This creates a less enjoyable play enivornment and keeps the online population low.
I don't know how much stock I put in this theory, but it's come up a couple times today and its pretty interesting. Also, I can't afford a PS3, free online or not, so I have no opportunity to test it.
Nice evidence you've both brought to the table. I'm convinced.Indigo_Dingo said:That theory falls apart by the fact that people on the PsN do not act like jackasses the whole time. In fact, paying for live gives people a sense of entitlement, making them feel like they can act however they want. So paying for Live makes it worse.
Hence the "you've both".Indigo_Dingo said:Same amount of evidence put forward by the OP. We're dealing purely with theory here.Decoy Doctorpus said:Nice evidence you've both brought to the table. what kind of evidence would you really like them to propose?Decoy Doctorpus said:Nice evidence you've both brought to the table. Survey finds PSN more friendly than Live.jboking said:what kind of evidence would you really like them to propose?Decoy Doctorpus said:Nice evidence you've both brought to the table. because an actual survey or report on those subjects wouldn't be biased at all.shatnershaman said:Survey finds PSN more friendly than Live.jboking said:what kind of evidence would you really like them to propose?Decoy Doctorpus said:Nice evidence you've both brought to the table. Report finds 30% of PSN users are asshats compared to Live's 17%
Never stops the countless other reports and surveys.jboking said:because an actual survey or report on those subjects wouldn't be biased at all.shatnershaman said:Survey finds PSN more friendly than Live.

True, but using completely biased evidence is just as bad as making a bold unsupported statement. Which gets back to the whole "what actual evidence would you want them to bring up." thing.shatnershaman said:Never stops the countless other reports and surveys.jboking said:because an actual survey or report on those subjects wouldn't be biased at all.shatnershaman said:Survey finds PSN more friendly than Live.

Theory
A set of statements or principles devised to explain a group of facts or phenomena, especially one that has been repeatedly tested or is widely accepted and can be used to make predictions about natural phenomena.
I'm guessing that theory is used in the non scientific way. The way where it's more like a hypothesis.Decoy Doctorpus said:Indigo_Dingo said:Especially in a thread with the word "theory" right there in the title.jboking said:what kind of evidence would you really like them to propose?Decoy Doctorpus said:Nice evidence you've both brought to the table. I can't see this being the case.Crunchy English said:So there's this new theory floating around, I saw it on GT's Bonus Round, and in the shop where I work. Apparently, PSN being free is actually detracting from the experience. The idea goes like this:
