You are right, but that doesn't stop the Suchong tribe from going after Ryu like a Zerg rush :p
I'm not sure they can risk a thinning of the herd. What if "Suchong" is sick again?

Captcha: Yadda Yadda Yadda.

Even Captcha is bored with me. :(

I was genuinely wondering what Ryu did for food. This doesn't surprise me at all if it's canon.

Silly Street Fighter, that's not a thing you do.
That pound cake must have been very difficult to carry into this thread. Here, I shall contemplate the meaning of this deep (dumpster deep) iteration of C.M. (and how a homeless man maintains such a physique) while you listen to some

P.S. I do not think that calisthenics alone would cut it.

Once again the good guys get shafted. M. Bison also has strength beyond compare...and he has his own food court.

What's curious to me is that Bison, with his criminal spanning empire, creates clones of himself to transplant his mind in to should he be killed. Chooses a sexy blonde girl as his intended.

Something you're not telling us?

There aren't a lot of backstories for fighters beyond "They fight because why the fuck not." is there?
There are but they are largely isolated to movies/etc, the games themselves do a terrible job of storytelling. At least Tekken tried to have a story. In case of Ryu, a lot of his personal story is based around defeating the primary antagonists like Sagat, M.Bison and finally Seth.

The SF2 movie (the only good one as far as most fans are concerned) is the one where we get an insight into Ryu's "idle" life. He wonders the world (barefoot like a real man), gets his money from street fights (duh?) and/or doing people favors and helping the weak. That's...about it :p
Also Sakura keeps running all over the place blurting "Where's Ryu? Anyone seen Ryu? I'm looking for Ryu!" in her cute little school uniform.

Ryu is comparable to Goku in the sense that he doesn't really live for any other reason than to seek friendly fights, never kill (or even seriously wound) anyone and keep getting stronger...but at least Goku had the balls to settle down with a woman and have kids -_-

But hey, I think Ryu is one of the few people where people know him for his MOVES instead of his story. I mean which gamer anywhere doesn't recognize this:

Goku thought marriage was a food and entered into an arrangement he had no actual understanding of. Because he's a good man, he went through with it AND there are only so many women who would put up with a man like him. Ryu on the other hand has more than two brain cells to rub together: there are plenty of ways a man as physically fit and able as Ryu could find 'off the books' work that pays in cash (unskilled labour in construction) or services (deckhand or other scut work on a cargo ship).

Also Akuma is way better. Flying fireballs.

YOU ARGUMENT IS INVALID!

Well, they don't have to go after Ryu with their whole tribe... And they can attack him while he sleeps to keep their losses as low as possible :D

I think there are only a few rats in the tribe that may be able to become a Suchong anyway; those with markings similar to the original Suchong's and those with no markings at all (like the current Suchong who was "marked" by the priest).

Now that I think of it, we need a comic featuring the new Suchong. He needs to prove himself worthy of his heritage!

Theres gotta be some way for him to turn throwing fireballs out of his hands into a cash source. I mean once you can put that on your resumee your pretty much set for life.

I think that ryu is just the type who isn't realy creative outside his field of expertise. He may be able to dislocate your shoulder while breaking your arm in three points within a second, but he just can't think of ways to put such abilitys to practical use.
What about a body guard? Or a martial art instructor?

OT: Ryu lives off his tournament winnings , everyone knows that.

I always assumed Ryu was a professional fighter. Like tourney winnings were his paycheck.

I wouldn't go with martial arts instructor as a profession, less you end up working with Dan.

Don't most professional athletes make a majority of their money from product endorsements?

Most professional athletes have expenses to pay which Ryu doesn't. Even a small tournament would provide enough money for a plane ticket, a few nights in a cheap hotel and his meals. Then it's off to the next fight. Ryu doesn't even need to use training facilities as he makes his own. You would be surprised how far $1000 will go when you live as a nomad.

Now that I think about it, he is the few Street Fighters that doesn't have a job. Chun Li is a cop, Ken a rich kid, Viper also a cop, etc. Other than him I think Blanka doesn't have anything else on the side when not fighting.
Wait, wasn't Blanka working in power plant or something?

Ken - Rich kid who runs his family's business
Chun-Li - Interpol Agent
C.Viper - CIA Agent
Guile - Military
Cammy - Military
Cody - Prisoner/Wanderer
Ibuki - College Girl
Zangief - Employed by Russian Government
Dan - Martial Arts Instructor
Blanka - Works with Dan
Sakura - School Girl

Thats all I can remember off the top of my head for now. But yeah, Ryu is pretty much a magic hobo in comparison.

Ryu's got plenty of job prospects. He could be a grocer, or work in a restaurant...or maybe he could teach kids to break a man's spine in 12 places.
None of those jobs would be very good for someone that roams since it takes a significant amount of time to teach children and working a counter job usually requires a week of training abouts at the end of the which he would be moving on to the next place, plus I don't think he actually has any paper work like a social security number or a passport or anything so anything over the table would be tricky.
He could work as a travelling performer (shooting fireballs out of your hands isn't something people see every day) or he could use his massive muscles to work on a fishing boat which is usually highly physically laborious, not very mentally taxing, pays moderately, provides travel expenses+housing, is under the table, any doesn't need any training.
