As it turns out, the Pokéwalker was more accurate than two other standard pedometers that she tested.
Oh gee, she compared it to a whole TWO other pedometers? I hope she didn't strain herself with such a comprehensive and accurate study. Honestly, I probably spent more time reading this article than she did testing.

Anyway, I'm just glad they got rid of that nonsense for Black and White. Locking off portions of the game unless you found a way to cheat the Pokewalker to get the unrealistic number of watts they wanted you to get was even worse than the Pokeradar from Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum. I'm so glad Black and White tossed both of those gimmicky pieces of crap and let us find and catch our Pokémon the old fashioned way: by walking in tall grass and waiting for them to appear.

inb4 someone completely misses the point and says I just don't like it because I don't walk anywhere or other such nonsense.

Indeed, I got more fun out of trying to break it then it's use in the game. In the end I said fuck it and just re-created my save on an emulator along with all the locked content when I foubd out that even by attaching it to the dog's tail it would take ages to get anything done. And I get enough exercise anyway(including walking said dog).

I'm a bit curious as to how one can measure the accuracy of a motion-triggered stopwatch, but if science says it works, then I'll concede the point. I'd never use one, but that's probably because I don't play Pokemon.

I love figuring out how to cheat these things. Pokewalker actually took a little bit to figure out, but I got it now. I even taught it to other people.

On an unrelated note, I also figured out how to cheat the 3DS's pedometer.

Just a shame it isn't compatible with Black/White, really.
I thought the same. Really wish it were, it's the coolest addition to a pokemon game ever.

Ah man, I used to wear mine at work. (worked behind the bar and as a waiter at a country pub)
Got a few snickers the first few times, but especially on busier days I would rack up over 40,000 steps. Thanks massive garden and the awkwarrd family that would ALWAYS order the most and be at the furthest end of the garden away from the kitchen.

The 3DS pedometer doesn't seem to be nearly as hard to game as the pokewalker, or as accurate. My trip to school gets it 1000+ steps easily, and it's definitely not that long of a walk.

Makes sense, and you can buy them for like ten dollars or so (I guess alot got lost, or people just wanted it. I know I gave the girl I was serious with around the time this came out one with her favorite pokemon [quilava] on it for valentines day gift).

But yeah, I always wore mine no matter where I went. My one friend always wore his too, and even when he was asleep, just cause he knew he sleepwalked.

I've been using mine everyday. It seems to work well and doesn't over count steps. I enjoyed the feature, and it was a neat way of Nintendo telling me to get off my ass every now and then.

too bad i tricked mine by sliding it on my sock and letting my twitching do the work
Ahh genius, my feet twitch all the time.

Yeah don't mess with the hardcore pokmeon crowd, between counting egg steps, IVS, EVs... these steps need to be pretty damn accurate.

Now where's that Jolly 252/252/4 31 IV'd Garchomp?
Its getting killed by my Glaceon's Ice Beam :D

That's good. I carried that shit anywhere I went. I was known as the PokeWalker guy at work, and dammit, I was proud of it.

I fail to see how it was a "locked of portion" of the game. It was completely separate from the main game bar sticking a pokemon in it. Even then if you just left it then one eventually appeared anyway. There are very few pokemon on it that can't be obtained in other manners. The only real rare pokemon were the special pikachu's, even then that isn't really a requirement to unlock the game.

If I remember right, abusing the pokeradar was also a fantastic way of improving chances of getting shiny pokemon. If your an obsessive pokemon fan then its a great feature.
