Stupidest Complaint 2011

That's right, Escapists, what's the dumbest complaint (about a game, or a movie or ANYTHING) you have heard?

I have a good one to get the ball rolling. I've been loving Fallout New Vegas. I'm playing it on the 360, so no mods but glitch-wise, it's basically fine for me. Anyway, my friend played it for a while (this is the guy who worships himself for his apparent prowess at Call of Duty and Halo) and when I asked him what he thought of fallout, he said it sucked. Why? Because he said the player has to be too dependent on VATs. he said "there's no aim assist on Fallout, so it's impossible you CAN'T aim." No. YOU can't aim without aim assist, my friend. When you've developed some actual skill, then try playing it.

so what's your dumbest complaint?

yeah, that is annoying. But then again, so is going on for some red dead, or some assassin's creed and THAT friend spams u with party and game invites and increasingly profane messages demanding you join their halo game or cod game or tf2 game, when you just want to play something story oriented for a while.

The Fallout complaint seems somewhat legit, for me anyway. COD and its ilk just seem... smoother.(EDIT- Control-wise, anyway.) With Oblivion and Morrowind, it didn't matter so much for me, because a sword isn't exactly a precision instrument compared to a M4 Carbine. I didn't need to be precise, the threat needed to be within arm's length and in my view. However, Fallout 3 and FNV gave you a precision instrument with Oblivion aiming, and it felt a bit clunky to me. I became overly dependent on VATS, and when AP ran out, I pretty much hit everything but what I was aiming at. It just didn't feel right to me. Perhaps I'm bad at FPS without a bit of aim assist, I don't know.

Now, the dumbest complaint *I* ever heard was one about Portal not being realistic. "It's so unrealistic. You can fall 300 feet without getting hurt and shoot portals from a gun? That's such bullshit. COD is better." And I just... I couldn't even begin to argue with that. He thinks he won the argument, simply because I couldn't even begin to understand how he was thinking that. Being able to fall 300 feet and shoot portals was the POINT of the GAME! It was in the fuckin' title! It's supposed to be unrealistic! But he faulted it for not following his Jesus-Jump Tac-Knife reality, where the term "Counter-Spy Plane" actually makes any fuckin' sense.

Bah. I'm done ranting.

My dumbest complaint would have to be any time I'm annoyed by a puzzle's complexity or lack of indication as to what to do next, something it's kind of meant to do.

I have many friends who always complain about realism in games and how they adore realstic [insert game genre]. I always try to tell them that I play games to enjoy myself and have a good time to get away from realism but that never works with them... Don't get me wrong they enjoy Halo and stuff but they always also rant about everything that they think is slightly of, for example they think the armor in Halo takes more damage than it should be able to -.-

The gist of it is some kid thinks that by including bi/homosexual flirtation in the game, Bioware are neglecting their core audience, straight white guys.

The bit that really gets me is when he claims that over 90% of Dragon Age/RPG players are straight white males. Hmmm.... someone doesn't leave the bedroom much, do they?

It's people like that who really make a bad name for us underprivileged straight white male gamer folk. It really is a shame that people can't play a well made game without feeling hard-done-by because the developers attempted to cater to the majority of their fanbase. I think that their inclusion of the homosexual relationships was a step forward for gaming as a form of entertainment and as an art form.

OT: Fanboys who hate on consoles simply because they "are shit". Also, people who staunchly play only one genre of game, or listen to one genre of music because all others are also "shit", even when they have never even tried them.

Honestly, this one was from today but it was definitely the most retarded complaint I have ever heard.

"mass effect 2 had good story and dialog, but the combat was uninspiring, it should have been like a point and click adventure game.

Really? A Point and click adventure over action, shooting, run around, aiming, crouching, adrenaline-pumping combat? You actually get MORE "inspired" by clicking with one hand around like you would on a desktop? How? How do you get more of a rush from this:

It's a game about extra-dimensional army forces occupying Earth that's now crawling with various other extra-dimensional life such as Antlions and Headcrabs (which can take over people's bodies ffs!)...it's not supposed to realistic, it's supposed to be fun. Which it is.

I feel I should point out this particular person is a massive COD fan.

I played New Vegas on very hard and I only used VATS in situations in which I was really fucked. Those situations happened 0.3 percent of the time. I found the iron sights function a godsend.

OT: All the Dragon Age 2 hate is really going on my nerves, "it's not like the first one", "it's dumbed down" and all that shtick. I haven't even played the game and I think it will be awesome. The hate is just another case of "sequel hate", which Crysis 2 is also getting.

I just wish they'd realise that a game can still be fun with having 40 or so different buttons.

Anything about Killzone 3 and how everybody is a marksman, infiltrator, or medic. And what they mean is they join a game and EVERYONE is all one class... But yet everyone is 3 classes. Riiiiight. And of course you can check the stats of the people making such stupid complaints, and find that they've only played one or two games. Good job, you haven't even really played yet and you're here hating on the game for something that's not even true.

Second dumbest complaint (it's a very close second) is people whining about the M82 assault rifle. "Waaaah, it does too much damage at long distances!" they cry. Well, yeah, it does do good damage over distances, that's what it was designed to do. It has a smaller magazine size and slower rate of fire than the other assault rifle, but it has better accuracy and does more damage.
Of course, these are usually the people who whine about anything that kills them being overpowered, so nobody really pays attention, but it's still a stupid complaint.
