my school has a really conservative catholic principal, and she banned bright red sneakers, open toe sandals, and skirts. because they were "the devil's work"(her words, not mine(and its not even a catholic school))
Wait, are you serious? I go to a Catholic school and nothing like this has ever happened. Sure we have uniforms but once a month they let us wear normal clothes and as long as the clothes aren't too revealing it's a-okay with my teachers. Skirts, red shoes, open-toe sandals are all okay (the girls actually have to wear skirts as part of the required uniform).

Also the stupidest thing to be banned according to me is Kinder Surprise eggs. Seriously, wtf America. Thankfully here in Canada you can still buy Kinder eggs.

i am completely serious, i am an athiest and i vote liberal, so you can see the problems i have with this.

My country's goverment was hostily taken over by a military dictatorship back in '76 that killed over 30.000 people just for commiting the hideous crime of thinking.
This soldiers also happened to be pretty stupid (as any soldier) and they banned a chemistry book entitled "La Cuba Electrolítica" because the "Cuba" in the title made their tiny psychopathic minds think it might be a communist book.

Alcohol in the 20's

Search your feelings, you know it to be true
Considering the fact that people couldn't drop it to the point of going to criminal organizations just to keep drinking? I think it was a good idea. People were, and still are, apparently very desperate towards drinking alcohol if they'll turn to crime lords to get their fix.
So giving those crime lords money is the better option. Right.
I never said giving them money was better. I said that it's pitiful that people were so desperate to get their alcoholic fix that they had to turn to local crime lords to get them a drink.

I've seen a few people say their Schools Firewall was stupid, But I think my High school's wins. It was so restrictive we couldn't even access Google. In our first year of High School we found the back door, but if you were caught using it you would loose your computer privileges for the year, and the back door was removed before the next year started. Out computers were useless as Research Aid's as the only thing you would be able to access is the "blocked page" page >.>
What's the point in a school having computers if they don't even allow you on Google? That's a popular search engine to find information for school assignments. I know I've used it a bunch of times for research assignments.
Yes, this is a question I and many of my friends asked ourselves each day. But, considering this was a High School who's computer class had you learning how to draw in MS Paint, was a sure sign that they had no idea what a computer was for. And I kid you not. Module 1: Drawing in MS Paint. Module 2: "Drawing" in MS Word. o_o;;;

Your article is wrong, Australia really DID ban small breasts.
... And most videogames... And plastic display weapons... Aaaaand wooden display weapons.
Besides that its openly gay-bashing, zealously religious to the point they imitate the states and not to forget the many many natural disasters...
The only upside would be Steve Irwin... But he's dead now.
Not sure if sarcastic or not, but I'll bite.

Australia doesn't ban video games, it's a problem of their being a legal loophole, technically they aren't even banned.

Plastic display weapons? Um? I see them in shops all the time.

Wooden display weapons, well certainly not at the dojo's I've visited.

Australia is certainly not openly gay-bashing, I walk down oxford street in sydney all the time, and if it was openly gay-bashing, there would be a rather large proportion of bruised homosexuals...

Natural disasters we have sometimes, but more regularly recently, generally it's not so bad, certainly there are a lot of worse countries to be in.

Religious to the point they imitate the states? Uh? No, certainly not, the vast majority of Australians are non-religious in the sense that they may have some belief or may not, but simply don't visit church.

When I worked at a food court, we had a bottle of hand sanitizer for people who wanted to use it. We saw it as a common curtesy. The health inspector had us remove it because it was a "dangerous chemical." Those were her exact words.

The city I currently live in has a law against dandilions, of all things, not that you'd notice when driving around shopping areas and those little patches of grass being overrun by the little yellow things. Not really a ban, but still something silly to not allow.

Anything that is Zero Tolerance, like expelling a six year old for bringing a Lego gun to school. C'mon... Not even an inch long, no moving parts, not even very accurate to a real gun, and teachers still throw a fit? That's some silly stuff to ban right there. If the kid lost the gun? Oh well. That'll teach him not to bring toys to school just as well as having the principal call the cops and the parents and terrorizing the poor thing over a piece of shaped plastic.

Schools have banned students from reading Fahrenheit 451.

If you don't know what the book is about, look it up to see why this is so saddeningly hilarious.

They banned the use of any electronic device besides a calculator during school hours. I understand some of it but then there's the walking into another, less frustrating teacher's room and telling their students what to do.
As above, except we started to program games on the calculators.
Now calculators are banned in Calculus.
/facepalm

LOL, not sure which part of Australia you visited, if you have done so at all but this certainly isnt the Australia I know. Our elected leader of the country is an atheist, as is a very large percentage of the population so im not sure where your zealously religious idea comes from. And if you are referring to Christianity I think you will find that this particular group of religions did not originate in the states but rather Europe and the Middle East..

On the topic of weed and alcohol...
HAVE YOU EVER WORKED IN A RESTAURANT/GAS STATION?!! Stoners/drunks are a f*ucking MENACE! Useless human beings inflicting their stupidity on everyone around them. It is a waste of money, gets you banned from everything open after 6pm because you are a public nuisance, and if a vehicle is involved someone could be killed... I could go on for hours so I'll stop there. Just please drink/smoke in the privacy of your own home.

On topic, I'd have to go with South Park episode 201. They censored out a speech that promoted freedom of speech even though they DIDN'T show Mohammad. They did say his name though...

My God, that's terrible! I'm a fan of all sized breasts!
Except gargantuan, those are just weird
I like to think that 'gargantuan' is an official size.

Some peeps just wanna get high. Ain't nuthin wrong with that
I think this is a good one, personally I've started smoking it in the last week and my life has not been at all affected badly. I've made more friends started talking to females... I've not had a flare up from my anxiety in weeks and I definitely have a good time when I smoke it.

Don't even feel bad the next morning :)

I remember, the year I left secondary school, they banned hugs... You would get suspended for hugging another. Catholic education amirite?
Also, King Kong. King Kong (the original) was banned until the 90's if I recall. I assume it's because they just forgot it was banned.

argh, someone beat me to posting this one.
okay, seriously, WTF is with that, besides the simple fact that it's Australia?
We didn't ban anything, it was just a rumor.
http://www.crikey.com.au/2010/01/29/has-australia-really-banned-small-breasts/
I'm actually relieved, despite my apathy towards A's (not exactly my favorite size)
to be honest though, it doesn't sound completely like something Australia would do...
I just lost my train of thought, but I was about to name a country that would.
although it does sound like something america would do. after all, we did make an amendment for the constitution banning alcohol on a 'moral' basis.

not really a ban but parents were asked not to feed their elementary school peanuts/peanut butter 24-48hrs of entering the school because some kids with a peanut allergy might come into contact the kid that ate it (through microscopic traces, not kidding) and fall ill.

I also think a bar owner should be allowed to own a bar that caters to smokers. Not excluding anyone, just put a disclaimer "smokers allowed, those who do not want be around smokers should frequent another bar". I don't smoke but it must suck to go outside/ force patrons to go outside in crappy weather because the law doesn't allow it.
