Sun Declares 3DS is "Game For a Barf"

In b4 tomorrow's Daily Mail claims that the 3DS causes cancer.

All I got from the Sun article is that if you're cross-eyed, you shouldn't play the 3DS while driving for long periods, that is what they were saying, right?

Honestly, they want to warn people about the terrifying dangers of the 3DS, and they use photos like that?

'Studies found that people who played the 3DS while walking down the street often suffered concussive injuries from walking into lampposts or passing traffic.'

How about not doing that then?

On the other hand, I would suggest that the Nintendo guidelines are fair but unlikely to be heeded, who here takes a 15 minute break every hour of gaming? I can imagine how pleased my WOW guild would be...

'Ok tank, hunter's pulling, go'
'hang on going AFK 15 minutes, I've been on an hour, need to go walk around for 15, back soon!'
*wipes*

The sad thing is, there's some level of a legitimate complaint here, I wouldn't even claim to be a Sun doctor, tho I know my left arm from my right, so I'm probably overqualified. However, the 3D effects are caused by tricking the eyes and brain, and as someone else said, lots of people feel a bit weird after a 2 hour movie, it'll be interesting to see how this goes down 3 months from now, whether Nintendo get hit with a million lawsuits or not.

Me, I'll wait for the full on, wired straight into the brain 'holodeck' 3d, and skip this generation.

This is a serious appeal to the news room writers and the editor of the Escapist. Please stop using tabloid newspapers as the basis of articles here. The sensible parts of our country know that The Sun, The Daily Mail, News of the World, etcetera are all pieces of foolish and unforgivable trash. They're basically the Westboro Baptist Church in newspaper format, and should as such be treated like a rash.

I like the analog stick they added, but it still is not the handheld for me. I prefer less gimmicky game line-up on the PSP over the DS line-up. Like with the Wii, a few decent games amongst many, many gimmick fests is not a good line-up.

it's graphically more powerful then the Psp and has a analogue control system, as well as improved online functionality and game carts up to 8 gigs.... theres PLENTY reason to still have a 3ds even if you disable the 3d
Not saying much considering the PSP has been out since early 2005, back when the PS2 was still going strong. But from what I've seen on the 3DS, it doesn't really seem any stronger than the PSP. Comparing SF4:3D screens to MGS:peace Walker, MGS looks better.

The Sun is staffed by Apple fanbois who want to avoid the harsh wrath of their turtleneck deity by ragging on superior systems.

The Sun, honestly? Fuck The Sun, half the crap they spout is sensationalist rubbish. When I play my DS in a moving car it makes me sick, but no-one else had the problem. The 3DS is getting hit often by these reports of headaches and sickness.

Depends on what you're looking for. Castlevania, Mario & Sonic, Pokemon, Square-Enix, Capcom, EA, a lot of the big, long-running series and companies have put more portables on the DS than the PSP. It's also become something of the de facto (J)RPG Portable console, which is a huge factor for people like me. Now, yes, sure, there are quite a few gimmicky games in the 3DS's starting lineup, but the same could be said of the original DS's lineup when it first released. It took a while before developers were able to figure out how they wanted to use the touch screen, and many of the great games just use it as a second screen to show additional stuff, and/or to touch and select things instead of endlessly scrolling.

For the record, I bought my 3DS because, after 4+ long years of devoted service, my DS Lite was on its last legs, and I figured instead of buying a new DS, only to undoubtedly get the 3DS somewhere down the line, I'd just get it now and save the money. Plus, my birthday is a month away, so I was able to finesse a deal out of my family XD. I will say that, at present, it really doesn't offer much, especially since a lot of its key features like DSware or whatever it's called is still locked away, but it's still a pretty good console, and definitely worth the money once it gets some updates.

All Nintendo really has are franchises from the NES/SNES. The new games in those series are not much different than the old ones either. Compare Mario 3 to New Mario Bros, not really much gameplay wise has changed. Same can be said about most any modern version of their older games.

I am not a fan of JRPG's (quite the opposite really), so the DS series line-up really has nothing that interests me that I can't play on a 8/16-bit console.

I'm still waiting for someone to make an article calling the 3DS the new Virtual Boy. What? I think it would be kind of funny.

But why can't you just get them with the 3DS? Because they put 3D in and you can't stand using the system without it? Haha, you're a sheep.
Yes, I'm a sheep for wanting to get the most out of the platform I buy. Especially its one key feature.

No, the thing is, without the 3D, I don't even see what the appeal in the 3DS is. I mean, okay, I guess if you're a hardcore Mario, Zelda and Metroid fan, you know your fill of first party favorites will be coming to the 3DS eventually. But until they do, there's still no point in getting one. Unless, you want to enjoy some 3D graphics.

I mean, I'm not even defending the 3D here. I think that 3D is a gimmick, and frankly, I don't want the "future of gaming" to be in 3D. But that's why I'm not gonna bother getting a 3DS. Because beyond its key novelty, the 3D, I don't see what it has to offer. I mean, okay, "better this, better that," but without killer apps, what's the point?
The inevitable Professor Laytons, Ace Attorneys, and, more over, games in that style will put the 3DS above the NGP in my book.

You know, blood pressure and pulse rising is also a result of general stress. It happens to me all the time when I'm playing games. And if I'm playing a game I'm bad at? Or one that is ridiculously hard? My hard starts beating pretty fast, yeah. Fast enough for it to be unhealthy if it were my resting rate. It has nothing to do with the 3D. Not to mention, they tested ONE guy, ONCE. No controls, no nothing. This is tabloid journalism at its finest folks, and shouldn't be respected in even the slightest of fashions.
Also, my blood pressure raises when I get anxious or nervous, like when I'm being forced to do something or when somebody is treating me like a guinea pig.

I'm genuinely scared that one day the Sun will accurately report a huge health risk I'm unaware of. Because i'll still ignore it.

The main reason for these "tests" done by a newspaper is simply because big gaming companies refused to refund people who had bought a 3DS after it made them ill and they wanted to return it. Places like Game eventually gave in an did the refunds, but at a £20-£50 loss to the purchaser. Not only that, but they refused to refund any games played as they had already been opened.

Wouldn't this be easily fixed by turing off the 3-D effect on the 3DS?
As constantly stated by those who wanted refunds on the 3DS, what's the point in paying £200+ for a glitzy version of the original DS?

Also, this is why I still have my original DS. It works perfectly find and all games they've released for the DS system work on it.

Playing the Xbox 360 in SD makes it just an Xbox. Playing a PS3 in SD makes it a PS2.
