FOR FUCKS SAKE, LEAVING AMERICA TO HELP THE WORLD DOESNT MEAN YOU HATE AMERICA. IT MEANS THERE GOING FOR A DIFFERENT STORY AND GLOBAL APPEAL.
I'll Second this. I love how most Americans happily spew hate about other countries, but god forbid someone someone say anything remotely demeaning about the "good ol' USA."

To summarize my thoughts on a Superhero wanting to protect the innocent all around the world rather than just the "Land of the Free"...

YYYYYYYYEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!

In regards to the reaction, I'm not surprised and I don't even care. I think I lost all faith in half the citizens of America when I saw Borat.
Pretty much what I was going to say.
Anti-American my arse, it's not anti-anything, it's just pro-world.
Still helping America, but also helping the world.
Good going, Supes.
I think it's a great story idea, encouraging people to not choose countries or sides but unision as a race of humans.

I'm looking forwardto Superman going all over the world.

I wonder why Fox news has to do with this other than make the Forumers who would agree anyway fell better for disagreeing with fox but what ever. in a year or two the status quo will return and this will go over as a example next time they do this again.

That seems like a really pointless thing for a comic to do.
what, plot?
No, be obnoxious just to try and make a point that doesn't need to be made anymore.
and this will be future plot points which could be interesting. or he could just pull a Farnsworth

I don't like superman, the american god. But this... make me dislike him even more. What kind of douche erase your own origin? Are the superman parents still alive? How you tell your parents that you giving up your nationality?

"Mom, Dad, I don't come for Thanksgiving. Like, never more!"

BUT, the writers have the right to do what they want. With this I agree.

We've actually done very little good, comparatively speaking, over the last two centuries.

We helped stop Hitler, sometimes worked to stop Soviet expansion, and developed most of the technologies used in the miniaturisation of computing, as well as DARPANet. We also introduced South America to the Death Squad, armed and trained the Taliban and al Qaeda, helped Saddam Hussein into power and sold him chemical and biological weapons which we knew would be used against his own people, armed Iran, tortured both citizens and foreign nationals at Guantanamo, *kidnapped* foreign nationals to imprison them in Guantanamo and then threatened their leaders... the list goes on and on, and those are just what we've done in the last 50 years. The further you go back, the progressively worse our abuses get.
You make it sound as if we're the only bad country in the world. America has a screwed up past, and one that is still messed up. But the difference between America and most of the world is one thing: We man up to our mistakes and make it clear as day, and try to see how to fix it, even if it makes it worse. We don't hide it under the rug.

PS: Nice attempt at giving very little good and a lot of negatives for your "list," when in fact both are relatively equal in a way. Many good decisions, many bad decisions. Doesn't make America good, nor does it make it bad. America... is just America.

As for the thread at hand: Fox News makes a normal news post? What? *puzzled* Of course the reader reaction is expected, but a normal news post? I think it might have been some new writer at their studios that hasn't been broken down yet into their ideals.

Ugh, I can't even bring myself to read the comments on those articles, even though I want to. I'm just afraid that much concentrated STUPID would probably cause some sort of irrepairable brain damage.
It still sucks that the rest of us Americans are painted with a broad brush because of our knee-jerk idiot population, but stereotypes are easier to accept than realizing a country might be full of different people with different opinions. Not all of us are the fat, self entitiled, poorly educated, ignorant, racist, basically worse than satan population a lot of people seem to believe us to be. It really doesn't matter what I say though, it won't change anyone's perception.

As for the comic itself, meh, Super Heroes go through changes all the time and the status quo (almost) always gets returned to normal. Though, there's always the small chance that this story could become Superman's "One More Day"... (not in a story sense, in a horribly changing up continuity for the worse sense) in that case, we should be scared. I don't really care or even really know that much about Superman, being more of a Marvel guy myself, so this news doesn't really have a huge affect on me.

I can see both sides of the issue, but I think I agree with superman's rational

He wants to help the world, but he doesn't want to affect his home country. He decides to leave it so that no one can say he doing something on behalf of the US, and giving himself the ultimate freedom. In a way I can see this as him realizing more of his potential.

That said, as an american, I can understand why some people are pissed. Superman represents the america that people believe we should be. He is strong, welcoming and always wanting to do the right thing. Unfortunately, at least at the moment, that is not what we are. I'm not trying to be a self-hating american, as I love my country. But it's because I love my country, I can be critical of it(by that I mean the people running it, both democrat and republican)

But, to be honest, the comic fan is me has another big part of my view in this.I find supes to be a bit of boring character. Thus, part of me believes, this may be an attention grab. One of the first thoughts, I had when I read this..

"This is most interesting thing superman has done for me since he's died....yeah..."

The fact that people get their knickers in a twist over something like this baffles me. Has Superman ever been exclusivly American? Surely a guy who can cross the pacific in a moments notice has solved a few problems in Europe as well. Not to mention all the shit he already solved on global scale.

To be fair, I do think its lazy writing, and more then anything done specifically to get controversy points. Supes never has been exclusively American. The writers just felt the need to emphasize this to kick a few shins.

disclaimer: Avalanche is not American and not a follower of superman comics or continuity. This has just been his 2 cents gathered from trying to think logically.
