...

Have they any idea what level of potential long-term damage this would cause?

I mean, we've been evolving for n millenia and I don't think Nature ever stuck electricity through anything that didn't use it purely for defence.

cool it's like overclocking your brain. Don't forget to improve your brains cooling system by wearing hats with fans or balancing a glass of ice/water on your head. Yes this should work.

OK, I got my wire, my teensy battery and my sponges ready.

Ow.

I got nothin'.

Edit: Christ, people. We're not talking about hooking a power line directly into you brain. We're talking about light stimulation of the SCALP. Jesus. Have you ever touched a 9 volt to your tongue? LIKE THAT.

Well, sounds about right. 2 milliamp is not really anything that could kill you, you would barely feel it, at maximum a small muscle contraction. Painful shocks if i recall correctly start at ~5+ milliamps, and even then it's not fatal. To stop the heart you would need something around 300 milliamps to the chest.

Human body takes about 86k V from static electricity, on very low amperage on regular basis.

On the other hand, i wouldn't mind some people online to get a bit of shock therapy with 100-200 milliamps each time they open their mouths to trash talk someone over video games.

So, I'm reading this and assuming that sticking my tounge in an electrical socket will make me even awesomer.

You afraid of the lawsuit or Fox news?
Yet another positive reason to live in Finland, I'm immune to FOX* and American law. (* Well... They can still write shit, but they can't target nor find me, Muahahaha! /Runs to a doom castle and start the Dööm device.

But I am sure there study about something similar while ago. Or was it about electro magnetic stimulation increasing temporarily brains functionality.

Now you've done it...

Next thing you know, every idiot with a nine volt is going to end up at the hospital.
9 volts isn't a lot of electricity. It's pretty much impossible to hurt yourself with 9 volts, unless you actually eat the battery or something, but that's a chemical problem, not an electrical one.
Should be sleeping, haven't read through all the posts but if it hasn't been covered already, here are some details.

It isn't the voltage that kills you, it is the amps.
http://hypertextbook.com/facts/2000/JackHsu.shtml

A static shock can be 20k volts or more but it lacks the amperage to kill you. A 9 volt could kill you if it was hooked to your heart directly but you have resistance in your body/clothing and such that keeps that from happening. Swallowing it would be nasty but not from the voltage or amperage.
"The chemical contents of alkaline batteries generally include zinc, potassium hydroxide, manganese dioxide and graphite."
Like Bek359 said a chemical problem. If it leaks you are probably going to end up with chemical burns on your insides. I am thinking the jolt to your heart would be preferable at that point.

Also, completely off topic in my sleep deprived state, if you pull your static infused clothes apart in the dark you can see the sparks. I am also easily entertained sometimes. I have a fleece blanket that is fun to put in the dryer without a softener sheet. I have no idea why I even keep it around other than for this reason because I will not sleep under or wear anything other than breathable, nonplastic fibers.

Vegeta, what does the scouter say about his power level? It's over 9 VOLTS.

Sorry, I just had to do it.

What?! 9 volts?! There's no way that could be right!!!! D:<

I'm SO doing this next time I play CoD.

Still, unless you're a neuroscientist, don't go hooking up an array of 9-volts to your head to see if you can rank-up faster in Call of Duty [http://www.amazon.com/Call-Duty-Black-Ops-Xbox-360/dp/B003JVKHEQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1303068708&sr=8-1]. Wait for an FCC-approved device first.
*slowly unhooks car battery from brain*

I always find things like this interesting, I just wonder how it actually helps I'd come up suggestions but i'd really be just shooting in the dark.

No, no no no no. I can already see how some schmuck is going to f-up and if he's alive do an interview with fox and they're going to link it back to games.
This times a trillion.

Why was this thought to be a good idea? I fail to see the reasoning behind this.

Soooooo it's kinda like overclocking the human brain??

Man I hope we have sufficient cooling for that...

...you know, 83 comments already or whatnot, I'm sure it's already been commented on. Glad I got out of the military when I did though, now that in the next few years, prototype electrical nodes are going to...hmm, 83 comments...nevermind.

Neuroscientists at the University of New Mexico ran 2 milliamps of electricity through the scalps of half the volunteers, and 1/20 that amount through the other half. The 2 milliamp group showed twice as much improvement after a short amount of time compared to the 1/20 group.
I can just see all the idiots that take things too literally going "Hmmm so if 2 milliamps helps you a little bit... If I hook my brain up to a car battery... I should be a genius!"

While the FCC would have to weigh in on any electromagnetic interference caused by this (in regards to how that affects other products in reserved radio-frequency ranges), I'm pretty sure you mean "FDA-Approved".

Next week in the news:

Scores of teenagers have been hospitalized after electrocuting themselves in an attempt to "PWN" in the popular video game Call of Duty.

Maybe I can get this in the news for my job's website, I work here: www.sfn.org
