I read somewhere that Tali's voice was based off the Romanian accent.

Fitting, considering the whole Gypsies IN SPAAAAAACE!!!!!!! thing.

Tali was the only interesting female character in the game. Miranda was a rather flat, business only chick (with a voice that really started to grate on me) and Samara was your typical badass action girl, with a totally impractical costume.

Thanks to everyone for your opinions on the game. I'm not going to argue that that Tali is the best and that anyone who hates her should OMG!!! GEt @ Life N00B!1! because everyone has their own opinion. I thought the accent was Arabic because I saw the stars of Mass Effect 2 video and she looked arabic.

She's earnest, kind, nerdy but legitimately intelligent, and thinks of others before herself.

....and any woman who threatens Garrus with a shotgun is a keeper in my book.
I also loved when I saw that happen. A little bit of self humiliation.

I think it was probably just the mystery of how she would look behind her mask. Not only did we not see her face in the first game, but we didn't see the face of anyone of her race.

We don't see it in the second game either. Damn you Bioware!

Personally I thought Tali was boring in the first game, a little more fleshed out in the second one but I never really found her attractive. Sure, she has an arse that could crush a melon, but cast your eyes lower and you'll notice the whole dog feet thing going on. I don't know, I didn't find her nearly as intreguing as Mirander or Jack.

But then again I play as female every play though so it doesn't matter to me. So far I've romanced Garrus and I'm now moving in on Thane...No, I don't like cock. Well, unless it has gills or something.

Well what's the alternative? Miranda? I wouldn't bone her if I had the option in REAL life! Basically it was the same reason for choosing Liara. Ashley was pretty much as butch as it gets, no matter how much corny poetic/religious "character" they added to her. Good thing I [/spoiler] killed her
on Virmire.

Anyway, all I'm trying to say is that for all the romance options given, Bioware is pretty stingy with choices. Same problem with Dragon Age. The characters weren't any that I would consider fucking, even if they did exist. Bioware should either have good people to choose, or remove the whole process altogether. The only reason I (and a lot of people) chose Tali was just because it was the only good option through the whole mess.

When you romance her, Shepard takes off her mask and smirks in a really satisfied way.

She's hot, or at least Shepard thinks so.

See?

Part of it is that she is mysterious, part of it is that she has a nice voice.

But one of the main reasons I like her is that she has a good personality. She is practical and sensible. She doesn't want to cause unnecessary harm or destruction, but she's strong enough to make an unpleasant decision when she has too for the greater good. She is dedicated and clever and not rash or impulsive.

She's also not as rough and tough as Ashley, but not as meek, introverted, and delicate as Liara.

Because you couldn't in the first game. People always seem most attracted to what they can't have.
That, or because she actually has a personality. Ashley was an uninteresting bigot and Liara?
She barely showed a change of expression between being fucked and having to shoot her own mother.
I still wish I could romance Wrex. He'd probably break poor Shepard into tiny bits.

In the first game, I found the love interests boring. I always wished Tali could have been a romance option because she was such an interesting character. So when I herd that in Mass Effect 2, you could have a relationship with Tali, I rejoiced. I came onto the forms expecting people to say that they had relationships with Miranda/Yvonne Strahovski, but I was surprised to learn that EVERYONE loved Tali. Is it the mask, the hidden arabian accent, or is she just that interesting to people?

Arabian? More like Eastern European.

Tali has a MUCH better storyline in the romance thing than Miranda's bore-a-thon and Jack's aggressive slut sex.

Plus, I think BioWare wants us to sleep with the aliens, since they seem to make all human women (besides Kelly) look like guys.
