My Uncle got tattoos all down his arms when he was young, and now he wears long sleeved cuffed shirts all the time to hide them.

I had no idea, until my Dad told me.

I have spiderwebs on my wrists, I got them done in some guys kitchen. He's a friend of a friend who used to own a tattoo shop of his own, so I got them on the cheap.
I don't have any regrets but a few years down the line I don't really notice them like I used too.

I can see how if you pick something bad you'll begin to wish you hadn't got it tattoo'd on you, so make sure you make an informed decision on it.
Names are a big no no Imo, as is gaming stuff.

Think carefully about a tattoo and pick something that has meaning.

Also, really, put it in a concealable location. The professional world does not like tattoos.

I would add not to get a tramp stamp, but you're a guy. So I wouldn't expect you to get one anyway.

Full sleeves are the way to go. And don't listen to the "It has to have a deep and profound meaning" camp, that's all horseshit.

i think tattoos are really stupid. Your injecting ink in your skin, and if you regret getting it, you cant really remove it. Its your choice though. Dont ask us.

that's the one I'm thinking of getting, although I am definately going to get it slightly re-designed. Don't like the colours or the blatant cartoonsim of it. Would prefer a more realistic picture kind of one :)

http://www.tattoosdaily.com/?s=lion&x=15&y=9 also people should look at that for some hilarious examples of tattoos peopel have had done that they almost certainly regret.

EDIT: Spoiler tagged it, pretty big picture it turns out....

Just don't do a girl's name. If she ever breaks it off, you'll be stuck with her name on you, and I doubt your future girlfriends want to see that.

The only tattoo I want would be the quote from Bioshock, "A slave obeys. A man chooses." one on the back of each calf, with a complete chain above the slave bit, and a broken one above the man bit. I think it would look quite cool, but I dunno if I want it...

One of my college lecturers had a tattoo once he didn't tell us that though, his hand was scarred he told us he burned it when he was younger another lecturer said he used to have a claw tattoo on that hand and he had it lasered off, when asked he verified the story saying it was the biggest mistake of his life.

Anyway the moral of this story dont get a tattoo anywhere that's visible all day every day.

EDIT: Also stay far away from any Asian symbols you can never be certain what they say.

The only time I'd get a tattoo will be if I join the Armed forces, I'd get my Regiment Coat of arms, cos well, thats they do....

Or if I found something else specific to to get a tattoo of. Not just one for the sake of it.

I have been trying to think of a decent tattoo to get since I was 14. I finally thought of one and my friend stole it. So, here I am 10 years later with no tattoo. One of these days...

I just want to make sure I'll like it when I'm 60.

I have a tribal design on my upper left arm. I like the style, so I looked through many designs until I found one I really liked. No regrets.

My only advice is to not get any of the following: cartoon/anime characters, angel wings on your back, tramp stamps, roses, and anyone's name, especially a boyfriend/girlfriend's name. That last one is the most important to avoid... it's a fucking retarded idea.

I kind of like Faith's tattoo from Mirror's Edge but I'm not sure if I'd want it. (The arm, not the eye.)

[/spoiler]

I'd say to get something in a location where you can conceal it. If you don't do that, then it's a good idea to look over the pattern from the eye of, say, a possible employer. What message does the tattoo send? What kind of person does it make you look like? It's disgusting that you could be judged just for having a design on your skin, but it happens every day.

I've got two, a Nightwing logo on my left shoulder, and the symbols from a Led Zeppelin album on the inside of my right forearm.

As far as regrets go, if you get older and a picture on your body is the biggest regret you have, you are probably doing alright in life.
